I know but not all are drm free....looking at you Ubisoft & Steam

if i can avoid it with certain games i will.

Right but you get all the games you could possibly want anyways.

You don't own the content on the disk either. Steam has a lot of benefits that make it worth using. The community, price, setup. Drm isn't really an issue and if you don't like it you have other options. Consoles holding developers hostage is why you pay such high prices on the consoles and they have to make up for the loss they incur on the console sale.
