XIII got hated upon when it first got released from some places seem to be because it wasn't open world like Elder Scrolls, Fallout etc
and i think i remember some people felt the story convoluted, I'll admit it was alot to take in.

Skyrim is the new thing so I could see why people were complaining.

That's why it's always funny to hear people complain about over saturation of shooters in video games. You can tell these people weren't gaming in the 90's. When ever something is trending there is always market saturation.

There's one i remember seeing, It was an ad in a comic forgot the name of it but it seemed to be trying to rip off Street fighter 2.

Every game was ripping off SF back then lol. God there were too many fighting knockoffs back then. Oversaturated as all hell. Yeah, people make a big deal over nothing. That's how business is and alot of good fighting games came from that oversaturation: Fatal Fury, KOF, Tekken, DOA, etc.

I think people have a problem with the bad games. It does get annoying seeing all of the Cod clones. Kof was great because it had it's own way of doing things. Like DOA does.

I can't speak for the market saturation of shooters because I'm not really into shooters. But, for fighters it wasn't a bad thing imo.

It gt's to the point that it becomes impossible to make games because the standards are way too expensive.

Well you can go Indie or make games on mobile devices which is what many companies are doing. You just don't want to compete in the AAA title market that way.

I never liked the indie scene in the west. It's always been filled with talent-less and pretentious people. I like doujins, though.

There have been some good things here. I just like whatever I find good. I don't care where it came from.
I actually quit games for a few years when I saw the state of it, I came back because of a few games that ended up being letdowns. That said I do like some of the other stuff that's out.

I feel the "indy" scene in the east is bigger and much more consistent.

I feel the "indy" scene in the east is bigger and much more consistent. It might be depending on what you mean by "Indy". Some very successful companies here are Indy. It also depends on taste as well. Many Indy games can feel like old school games if done right.

It conjurs images of of hipsters developing pretentious retro-esque games. That's generally been my experience.

It sounds like the people who "try" to be trendy and different. They're as annoying as the ones who jump on the popular bandwagon.

In someways the mainstream is actually better because it's not pretentious and this is not limited to games: Movies, Music, Comics, etc. The non-mainstream stuff tends to reek of this type of arrogant force avant-garde/ pseudo-intellectual tripe. It's similar to liberals who do "yoga" and spirituality because it's cool. There's so much pretense leaking from below the surface, it's ugh.

You have the side who likes the mainstream BECAUSE it's the latest thing. Then you have the people who like the less popular JUST because it's less popular. I remember my buddy complaining about everything that's popular, like The Dark Knight. Then we saw Max Payne later that year and he thought it was great. Why? Because it wasn't *as* popular. Just silly to me. Those liberals are just a bunch of posers. The whole "Yoga, spirit, vegan." thing is so old.

Pretty much, anyone who attaches their self-worth to what video game or movie they watch is a loser period. There's taste and then there's stupidity. It's just people showing off and attention whoring.

It's just people showing off and attention whoring. I know them on real life and they're on this site too. We had that big console debate. They were going around complaining about Playstation 3 for the longest. They're Nintendo fanboys. Their parents raised them on Nintendo but they resented Sony (the fact that they couldn't have one). Once they could afford it they would just buy it used. Once Playstation 3 became cheap enough, they bought that too. Earlier they would bash it at every chance they got. That always annoyed me.
