When I stopped watching G4 and CN I stopped watching TV. Also, when the anime market crashed and they stopped showing anime on cable minus slim pickings. That's also when I stopped listening to Rap as well and drifted slowly away from pop culture.

Yea, anime was incredibly widespread and then began to decline. Thankfully the internet came along which allows us access to what we want and not what they decide we want.
