So the IRS gets to use the fifth to avoid testifying against oneself. They don't care about that when you file a tax return.

"House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair Darrell Issa (R-CA) was once again exposed as a "liar," as he had insisted that former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner would testify this morning with immunity.
Darrell Issa continues to waste the time and money of American people, as ex-IRS official Lerner again invoked the 5th Amendment, and refuses to testify on the so-called IRS scandal. Lerner refused to answer Issa's questions during a hearing Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The hearing with Ms. Lerner was a colossus waste of the time and money of American taxpayers, as Lerner's attorney had not agreed to testify without immunity before the House Oversight Committee and as Allvoices reported earlier in the week.
"Mr. Chairman, you cannot run a committee like this," Cummings shouted, calling Issa’s inquiry a "one-sided investigation" and saying, "We’re better than this as a country. I am a member of the Congress of the United States of America, and I am tired of this," Cummings shouted.
"Close it down," Issa said, releasing Lerner and angrily cutting Cummings’ microphone.
Issa noted in his remarks that Oversight has "conducted 33 bipartisan, transcribed interviews with employees from the IRS" but that the IRS "continues to withhold" some of Lerner’s emails that Issa requested in his three separate subpoenas for documents.
Issa appeared on "Fox News Sunday" this morning with what he labeled as some "late breaking news": "[Lois Lerner's] attorney indicates that she now will testify."
The reference is to IRS employee, Lois Lerner, the chief witness in his investigation of the IRS' alleged targeting of conservative groups.
Lerner, who was the Director of the IRS Exempt Organizations division during the supposed targeting, has thus far invoked the Fifth Amendment in front of Issa’s committee. "We believe the evidence we’ve gathered causes her, in her best interest, to be someone who should testify," Issa said.
Host Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday, double-checked that Lerner was, definitely, going to testify this Wednesday. "According to her attorney," Issa replied to Wallace.
Actually, according to her attorney William Taylor, Lerner had no such plans. "As of now, she intends to continue to assert her Fifth Amendment rights," Taylor said to POLITICO. "I do not know why Issa said what he said."
After today's non-testimony, America does not know why either."
