What is your preference? I think single player gaming is one of the genres that is becoming less popular and overlooked due to the multiplayer madness, but I think it still has several distinct advantages.

Good question, Single Player experience is much more personal. Sitting down by yourself playing a game from start to finish is indescribable.

Good question, Single Player experience is much more personal. Sitting down by yourself playing a game from start to finish is indescribable. Yea, it seems like multiplayer is more and more "dumbed down" gameplay wise and is more about bashing stuff with large groups of noisy people. www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/01/look-single-player-people-are-just-better/I understand the appeal since it caters to the masses, but I feel games that are designed for single player are more immerse. Not to mention like you said, online is full of morons, and people tend to take things too seriously. Some games are designed for multiplayer, like fighting games. Even then hooking up and finding matches, and playing the right people can get exhausting. When I'm on the road I like to play but it's more hassle getting a good spot and waiting for the right people vs just jumping on and playing whatever I want at anytime. There are definitely many aspects of single player that are missed by most.

Well, the thing is I love fighters and beat em' ups. But, those games are best served multiplayer. Single player is good for training mode or story. But, competition against the CPU isn't as good as a human for now.
That article was mostly coming from the perspective of a gamer who wants a better story or immersive experience. I think the problem with multiplayer is trolls who act retarded. Shooters are a prime example of this.

Which is what MK and anime fighters do. Fighting games are designed for multiplayer and are competitive and meant to test skill. I think beat em ups can be played solo just fine, but RTS games are multiplayer. Shooters are mainstream and have a lot of idiots for sure. It's also the inconvenience of playing online at times whereas a single player game can be done at your own leisure which is great.
