Harada On Why Tekken 7's Release Date Was Delayed Huge batch of Tekken 7 news came out but for those interested, here is Harada's explanation as to why the game got delayed from Early 2017 to the 2nd of June. ▌Harada on Tekken 7 Delay ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ "We were trying our best to get the game out at that time, to get it into the hands of users as early as possible," "We saw some titles--some from our own company and some from others--which didn't have a very good launch because of a lack of content, or whatever it was, that caused players to bash the product." Harada and team wanted to avoid a similar fate, deciding to continue forward with its original content plan - "even if that meant the game would come a little later." "Although this is the first time we've actually announced a date, it wasn't always June. It came through a process and we made some hard decisions and that was the result." 'early' was probably March or April from your average person's perspective, so we're not going to try and sugar-coat it. We realise it's not 'early,' I'm so sorry!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the Minimum & Recommended Specs for Tekken 7 on PC PC player? Here are the PC specifications required to have the game up and running when it launches. The original table source comes from Famitsu in Japanese but I've made an English version of the table for everyone below. These specifications are of course just a guideline reference to assist in getting your setup ready so if you can't meet the minimum requirements, perhaps it is time to upgrade. Harada Explains the Season Pass for Tekken 7 The characters & content in the game don't pay for themselves is the quick take on it. Whether the consumer is expected to know the details behind the game's development or care about it is another argument altogether though. Nonetheless, if you're curious and feel like you need to know, here is Harada's explanation on it taken from his Twitlonger post recently. ▌Harada on the Season Pass ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ In the past, we had to stop all updates and support within 2months after launch(Because no development Budget). With Season Pass, we can guarantee one year of Additional Development Cost and development Team (Retention of development team structure) from our Company/Publisher. Also, we do not sell classic Tekken characters, Paid DLC will be special content. With this system, we can do free updates and support for a long time. This is what I've been saying in an interview article (I have talked about it in several interviews before, so please read it). Further reading: GameSpot ≫ www.gamespot.com/articles/how-tekken-7s-arcade-roots-are-shaping-its-console/1100-6447149/IGN ≫ www.ign.com/articles/2017/01/23/tekken-7-is-coming-home-a-little-later-than-expected---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eliza Will Have a Unique Meter Mechanic in Tekken 7 As previously reported, Eliza will be returning to Tekken 7 as a DLC character. She first appeared as a fan-voted character in Tekken Revolution, where Eliza had some unique mechanics tied to her sleep and blood-sucking abilities. When she makes her Tekken 7 appearance, it seems that Eliza will be bringing with her yet another new mechanic: meter management. In a recent tweet, Avoiding the Puddle’s Flying Wonkey shared a screenshot of Eliza and pointed out that she now came with a 2 meter. Now meter isn’t something that’s completely new to Tekken 7. However, prior to this, only Street Fighter guest character Akuma had meter, reflecting his roots in that series. Eliza thus represents the first homegrown Tekken character to have a meter. How exactly Eliza will use this meter–whether it’ll be just like Akuma’s, or if it’ll be tied to her blood-drinking mechanic, is as of yet unknown. We’re bound to learn more about this as more information is dropped in the coming months. Source: avoidingthepuddle (Season Pass), shoryuken (Eliza Meter), & fightersgeneration (image)

IGN Video - Inside the Development of Tekken 7
IGN recently put up their video tour of the development offices from the Tekken project team in Bandai Namco Japan. Game Director Kouhei Ikeda, Program Director Kei Kudo & Lead Character Director Tomoko Odashima give their thoughts behind creating the latest installment in the long running Tekken franchise. There's also minor bits of playable video of the characters Eliza & Kuma but it is all still early footage.

Mad Catz to Release Tekken 7 Arcade Fight Stick: Tournament Edition 2+ It seems that HORI isn’t the only company releasing an arcade stick for Tekken 7. Mad Catz has also announced that they are collaborating with Bandai Namco for their own take on a Tekken 7 arcade stick. Mad Catz’s Tekken 7 offering is based on their Tournament Edition 2 Arcade Fight Stick–now Tournament Edition 2+. This means that it will contain the same features as the Street Fighter V original such as the touch pad, opening top panel, foam padding, Sanwa parts, and easily swappable top panel art. That said, players might not make use of the latter–since the Tekken 7 TE2+ variants from Mad Catz will feature some amazing art on their own. Both variants of the Mad Catz Arcade Fight Stick Tournament Edition 2+ feature slick, hand-drawn character art. The red version focuses on series antagonist Heihachi Mishima, with the rest of his dysfunctional family on the side. The white version, on the other hand, has Tekken 7 boss (and Heihachi’s estranged wife) Kazumi Mishima, with Heihachi off to the side instead. Mad Catz is still mum on details–such as when it’ll come out, and how much it will cost. That said, those interested can register over on Mad Catz’s official site for these. In the meantime, check out some of these images of these sticks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HORI Announces Tekken 7 Real Arcade Pro Sticks for Western Markets Great news for Tekken fans, as HORI have announced that the Tekken 7-branded Real Arcade Pro will be coming to the West. Previously announced for only the PlayStation 4 in Japan, each console gets its own unique artwork, with the black PS4 edition showing Kazuya and Heihachi about to fight, while the white Xbox One edition shows off Asuka, Alisa, Lili and Lucky Chloe all ready to battle. Both sticks are also compatible with the PC edition of Tekken 7. This news is especially good for Xbox One players, who have been long-awaiting a new arcade stick for their platform. HORI also recently announced that the Fighting Commander pad is also coming to the Xbox One as well, complete with an all-white color scheme. As with other RAP models, these Tekken sticks use HORI’s own Hayabusa stick and buttons, so you may have to swap these if you are used to Sanwa Denshi buttons on your current stick. These models will launch alongside Tekken 7 on June 2nd. shoryuken.com/2017/02/05/looking-for-a-xbox-one-controller-for-killer-instinct-or-tekken-7-horis-fighting-commander-debuts-on-the-system-soon/------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More PlayStation 4 Exclusive Perks are Coming with Tekken 7 in June Tekken 7’s long awaited release is just shy of four months away, and now we are getting a better picture of what will be available on launch date. While Microsoft hasn’t announced any big news on its Xbox One release yet, Sony has taken the initiative to show why they think the Playstation 4 release will be the definitive version of this title. Firstly, the Playstation 4 Collector’s Edition of the title will come with a 12″ x 18″ figure of Heihachi and Kazuya engaged in battle, as well as a Steelbook and the Tekken 7 soundtrack. But wait! There’s more! Exclusive to the Playstation 4 version of the game will be a Jukebox mode, which will allow you to play songs from all versions of the game series in a mix while you play the game. The game will also feature exclusive costumes–for certain characters–from Tekken 4 and Tekken 2. Source: shoryuken

Tekken 7 DLC Will Not Feature Classic Characters, Harada Confirms
Recently, Tekken 7 game director Katsuhiro Harada talks about the future expansion packs of the upcoming fighting game Tekken 7. Harada confirmed on his official Twitter account that they will not feature classic characters on the game's upcoming DLCs. Instead, they will offer a special content for their fans who plan to purchase the future expansion packs.
According to the report from The BitBag, Harada said during his interview with IGN that players who owned the game's season pass will be receiving a unique game mode, exclusive costumes, special characters and 30 metallic costumes. It seems like Harada and the rest of the team are planning to add new content without featuring older characters through the game's expansion packs. In addition, Harada also mentioned about an upcoming free update. However, there are no further details regarding the topic yet.
Based on the report, fans might think that Harada's statement means that they will not be receiving classic characters and other contents in the latest entry. However, the Director tweeted some of the game's characters and costumes in their previous games. In addition, Harada's tweet could also mean that players cannot expect older characters to the game via paid DLC. Perhaps, the new Tekken characters might be featured on paid DLC, while classic characters will be released for free.
On the other hand, Tekken 7 will be applying a Season Pass system for the game's future DLCs. As reported, Tekken 7's Season pass will include new characters, game modes, stages, costumes and metallic costumes. As of the moment, it is highly recommended to wait for Bandai Namco's plans on how they will introduce the new content. Furthermore, they could also feature classic DLC packs to the game.
Meanwhile, with five more months to go, there's still a possibilty for further announcements. In addition, Harada might also reveal some of the details about the game's upcoming DLC in the following months.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tekken 7 DLC to feature 'special characters', no classic characters to be added this way
Katsuhiro Harada, the producer of the Tekken series, has previously clarified that Tekken 7: Fated Retribution will not be adding any classic characters to the game post-launch, at least not as paid DLC.
What does this mean for DLC characters, though? Michael Murray, one of the game's designers, took to Twitter to answer this very question without giving too much away.
What exactly is a "special character", you ask?

Heihachi Figpin Now a Part of Gamestop’s Tekken 7 Pre-Order Bonuses If you were waiting for the pot to be sweetened for you to put your money down on a Tekken 7 pre-order, Gamestop just upped the ante. While we have known for a while that they will be offering Eliza DLC codes as a part of their Day One Edition, there’s even incentive now. Gamestop is now offering a Heihachi Mishima Figpin as a pre-order bonus of Tekken 7–“Figpins” are collectible pins of video game characters. On top of that, this pre-order bonus is valid for all versions of the game, including the collector’s edition. The Figpin bonus is not yet listed with Tekken 7 on the Canadian EB Games website, so it is unclear what regions–if any–will also be offering this extra incentive. Source: shoryuken

Harada on The Current Status of Crossplay for Tekken 7
"Don't ask me. ASK 1st party." Says Harada. He continued on in a string of tweets today addressing the main issue that is getting in the way of enabling console crossplay for Tekken 7 which are the 1st party policies in place that the developers have to adhere to when they develop games for their systems. Enabling crossplay between certain systems like PC <-> PS4 or PC <-> XB1 was also shot down because that would be splitting the player base on the PC which they can't do. He didn't say it but hypothetically speaking, the thought of PC players only being able to play with either PS4 or XB1 players does sort of bring the console that is not crossplay enabled down. So for now, people that are waiting on the status of crossplay for Tekken 7 to make their purchase, check out the related tweets on Harada's Twitter account and make your mind from there.

Tekken-Net Spring Campaign is Now in Effect with New Customizations Tekken-net Spring Campaign is now underway and a huge batch of new customizations have now been added to the game. If you happen to be playing the game in arcades, you can net yourself new unique items that every character in Tekken 7 Fated Retribution received. Tekken-Official has posted a large gallery of the costumes on a new update but I've also added each and every one below here. This was a large batch but it should also be mentioned that players in arcades have now spotted certain costumes from previous games like Kazuya's classic Gi pants or Hwoarang's TKD outfit on Tekken-net so there's more added then what appears in this list. The Tekken-net Spring Campaign runs from March 8th to April 5th. ▌Spring Custom Items Images ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Yoshimitsu x Creature Head Dragunov x Dark Skull Set (Mask / Top / Bottom) Gigas x Olympos Set (Head / Body / Legs) Jack-7 x Strong Alloy Set (Head / Body / Legs) Katarina x Sea Breeze Shirt & Pants Feng x Tough Guy Style Lili x Marching Jacket & Skirt Law x Loose Dragon Shirt & Pants Lucky Chloe x Lucky Devil Claudio x Ancient Mask Devil Jin x Demon Hair ▌Spring Custom Gallery ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Akuma x Yaksa Haori & Hakama Bob x Jumbo Casual Vest & Pants Master Raven x Force Suit & Pants Nina x Noble Long Coat & Noble Short Pants Shaheen x Nice Guy Top & Pants Lucky Chloe x Lucky Dance Top & Pants Katarina x Sea Breeze Shirt & Pants Claudio x Wild Casual Shirt & Pants Alisa x Fairy Beach Bikini & Skirt Lili x Marching Jacket & Skirt Feng x Tough Guy Style & Pants Devil Jin x Darkness Shirt & Jeans Asuka x Powerful Girl Parker & Pants Steve x Rockers Long Coat & Bottoms Kazuya x Strong Tattoo Top & Strong Denim Pants Heihachi x Boss Style & Boss Suit Pant Bryan x Bionic Battle Body & Camouflage Battle Pants Jin x 'Manly' Style & Pants Xiaoyu x Natural Puff Sleeve & Natural Short Skirt Hwoarang x Mellow Jacket & Mellow Check Pants Yoshimitsu x Crow billed Goblin & Creature Head King x Regular Wear & Pants Law x Loose Dragon Shirt & Pants Lars x Captain Set (Hat / Top / Bottom) Dragunov x Dark Skull Set (Mask / Top / Bottom) Jack-7 x Strong Alloy Set (Head / Body / Legs) Kazumi x Charm Modern Set (Beret / Top / Skirt) Gigas x Olympos Set (Head / Body / Legs) Paul x Shinobi Set (Mask / Top / Pants) Source: avoidingthepuddle

TEKKEN 7 Post-Launch Content Outlined, Includes 2 New Guest Characters (with Stages) & More! Big news TEKKEN fans... Akuma won't be the only guest character to join TEKKEN 7! Bandai Namco stated previously that they'll be supporting TEKKEN 7 with new content for at least "1 year" after the June 2nd launch, and now we have a clearer picture of what to expect out of the post-launch content. A recent press release from Bandai Namco EU has confirmed two new guest characters (+2 stages for the guest characters) coming in Winter 2017 and Spring 2018, respectively. These guest characters are indeed from "other videogames' licenses" and will be accompanied by a special stage and special costumes for each character. And there's more... Also announced are brand new (FREE) character artwork panels for players on all platforms (which players use to customize their characters' images on the Versus Screen), and more than 50 new costumes throughout Summer 2017. Below are some preview images showing some of the new character artwork panels (with each artist's name). New TEKKEN 7 Character Panel Artwork By: Takuji Kawano, Hosonuma Takashi, Sagara Hiromi, Sashida Minoru, Ando Makoto & Morioka Yasuto. Heihachi Art: Takuji Kawano (SoulCalibur Series Artist, T7FR Costume Design) Kazuya Art: Hosonuma Takashi (TEKKEN Visual Design Team) Nina Art: Sagara Hiromi (TEKKEN 6 & TTT2 Character Design, Pokken) Lars Art: Sashida Minoru (Ace Combat, Driller, Time Crisis 5) Jin Kazama Art: Ando Makoto (PAC-MAN Series Art Director, Katamari) Alisa Art: Morioka Yasuto (Gundam VS, T7FR Xiaoyu Costume) Fun Fact #1: This image confirms "Violet Systems" as a selectable stage. Fun Fact #2: That deformed Jin Kazama is based on Katamari Damacy. Keep in mind, the above VS Screen panel artworks are in addition to the TEKKEN 7 panels already created by Junny, Yamashita, Fujisawa & Jbstyle... That's a lot of art! Kuma Found in the Arcade Version of Tekken 7 Fated Retribution
Or what appears like an early version of Kuma. Tekken has always had these little weird stories in arcades where players would find a character in the game that weren't made playable and for Tekken 7 it seems that still lives on. A Japanese player named Peintre Celebre posted on his Twitter about how he went to go play some T7FR before work and managed to find a Kuma CPU opponent in the training mode. There's a photo and video to go with the encounter too. The Kuma found looks a lot different then the one shown in for the console version of the game so this looks like an unintended glitch in the game code. Maybe we might find more characters eventually?

3/30 Tekken Talk with Markman, Dalton Link, Bronson & 725 Tekken Talk came back and with it, a new look at the latest build of console Tekken 7 on the PS4 Pro. For this episode, Markman is joined with the Bandai Namco community lead Dalton Link (who is probably the guy reading all your character requests on twitter), NorCal player Bronson Tran and 725 from Qanba. Most notably shown off in this Tekken 7 build was Kuma / Panda & Eddy Gordo as well as a batch of new stages in the game. The stage select screen showed multiple stages but only 4 were shown off and they were the Geometric Plane, Kinder Gyn, Infinite Azure & the Arena. ▌3/30 TEKKEN Talk ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ▌Tekken 7 Stage Screen Caps ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Arena G Corp. Tekken 7's Pre-Order DLC Character Eliza is Paid DLC 30 Days After Launch Minor update on the pre-order Character Eliza for Tekken 7. Taken from an official response from the Tekken FaceBook page, we're told that Eliza will specifically be available 30 days after the game launches. That seems standard for other pre-order fighting game characters in other games but it is now there in writing. If you consider the timeframe of release, that should roughly make her available to everyone that didn't pre-order the game 2 weeks before EVO 2017. As mentioned in the fine print on Eliza's promotional image, she's a paid DLC character so if you want to get your hands on the character without paying extra, pre-order Tekken 7. ▌Tekken 7 Pre-Order Eliza ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Source: avoidingthepuddle

Tekken 7 has 'deep cleavage,' laxatives, pizza, a peeping Tom, and flatulence, according to the ESRB It's pretty clear that the developers of the Tekken series love tossing humorous elements into their fighting games. Tekken 7, for example, will feature some of the goofiest equip-able items we've ever seen in a competitive fighter. But it looks like this time around, Bandai Namco didn't limit the funny to just unlockables. According to the ESRB's summary of their Tekken 7 rating, we'll be seeing more outlandish things sprinkled across the rest of the game. The ESRB notes that the game contains crude humor, mild blood, mild language, suggestive themes, violence, however, the specifics are the best part. Players can expect to see "deep cleavage" that sometimes gets zoomed in on, a scene involving laxatives and flatulence, and quite a bit more. Despite the risqué material, the ESRB has given Tekken 7 a T rating. Source: eventhubs

TEKKEN 7 X NJPW Bullet Club Collaboration Shirts & Bryan Fury Bandana Available Back in 2009, the TEKKEN team collaborated with the TapouT brand, creating not only in-game TapouT shirts for TEKKEN 6 characters, but actual shirts for fans to buy (which now fetch a pretty high price on Ebay). So far, TEKKEN 7's main collaboration is with New Japan Pro Wrestling, bringing "TEKKEN X Bullet Club" shirts to TEKKEN 7 characters and fans alike. NJPW Champion Kenny Omega (also a big TEKKEN fan) recently modeled some of the new merch. The Bryan Fury bandana and Bullet Club X TEKKEN t-shirt go on sale in Japan on April 9th. These items will be available from shop.bandainamcoent.co.jp. Source: fightersgeneration

Harada promises fan that he will deliver Tekken 7 and a console to his house if he gets one million retweets
Recently, a fan asked Harada if he could come to his house with Tekken 7. Rather than saying no, Harada, humorously, promised that he would do so if the fan were able to get one million retweets.
Is Harada actually being serious? Would he keep his promise if this were to actually happen?
Harada has been known to mess with fans from time to time. There's really only one way to find out if he is being serious...

Tekken series Chief Producer asks fans for Tekken 7 guest character ideas on Twitter, some of the suggestions are... out there Katsuhiro Harada, best known for being Chief Producer on the Tekken series, has taken to Twitter for some fan assistance. Back in March we learned that Tekken 7 will be receiving two additional guest characters from other video game franchises -- one set for Winter 2017 and the other in the Spring of 2018. Harada wants to know which characters the fans would like to see. The Tekken creator sent out a tweet yesterday evening prompting followers with the task of sharing their character ideas. Here are some of the responses. First up, motherphunker on Twitter (that's one hell of a name) suggested that Bayonetta be added to Tekken 7. Frionel26, an avid King of Fighters player/fan, made a PREDICTABO pitch. Now, Austin Creed a.k.a. WWE's Xavier Woods may have won the internet today with his pick. Not only did he volunteer himself as a possible guest character, but he used a GIF of himself that is just pure gold for further persuasion. And Setnomessej chose The Simpsons' own Ned Flanders. Latest PS4 Tekken 7 Footage Shows Noticeable Slowdowns During Matches
Oh no. The Tekken 7 UK Championship Qualifier in Dublin, Ireland took place recently and some concerning footage was captured of the PS4 version of the Tekken 7 having really noticeable slowdowns in the game. And no, I'm not talking about the Slow motion moments that happen near the end of the rounds. It's hard to tell what's causing all these performance issues in the game but there's been some anecdotal experiences from players at several events saying there's something going on with the console version of the game. I've gathered all the notable bits of footage & comments here for people to judge for themselves and hopefully grab the attention of those working on the game to quickly iron out all these issues before it releases real soon.

Blankaex has once again created a new Tekken 7 character breakdown and this time with the spaniard brawler Miguel. This comes after the Lee Chaolan breakdown video which was a valuable piece of content that showed off what's upcoming with the new console Tekken 7 characters. TEKKEN 7 Console Version Modes / Story Trailer
Early this morning, Bandai Namco Japan dropped a brand new TEKKEN 7 trailer for the upcoming console versions! Using all new gameplay footage, the trailer begins by recapping T7's gameplay mechanics and then quickly moves to the new console version features. All new Story Mode cinematics that flow right into gameplay are shown - one scene even confirms a playable "Mishimas versus Jack-4s at Honmaru" (straight from TEKKEN 5's intro). Customization mode and PS4 exclusive features are also shown in motion for the first time. Enjoy the full 5-minute trailer below and continue reading for the latest confirmed details!
Gallery Mode - Lets you watch classic intros & endings from past TEKKEN games, animated movies from Japan-only TEKKEN Pachinko / Pachislot titles, and view special illustrations.
TEKKEN Jukebox (PS4 Exclusive) - It appears it will have the same function and features of "TEKKEN Tunes" from TTT2, allowing you to choose the music for each stage (and stage variations between rounds).
Main Story / Mishima Saga - The trailer shows the "Mishima Saga" chapter select menu. We can see that the Mishima Saga contains more than 11 chapters... possibly up to 18 chapters! Story Mode also has "Story Assist" controls which helps beginner players perform special moves and combos easily.
Character Story Episodes - Outside of the main Mishima Saga, there will be character specific episodes (Nina's and King's are shown in the trailer). These will contain their own cinematics-into-gameplay sequences and develop each fighters' TEKKEN 7 storyline. The menu design suggests there are at least 28 character episodes.
Treasure Battle - This mode allows players to fight an win various customization items and fight money. It's currently unknown whether it's 1-player only or 2-player as well. "Turbo" Battle might be a random occurrence in this mode.
Mokujin Rush-Style "Turbo" Battle - Near the end of the trailer, Jin Kazama (wearing a cool red headband) does a normally impossible combo at a fast-paced speed. This appears to be similar to Mokujin Rush mode from TEKKEN Revolution.
Customization Mode Menu - The trailer shows off the console version's in-game Customization Mode for the first time. As expected, there are more options and sub-menus available over past installments. BULLET CLUB shirts can also been seen in one of the menus - confirming NJPW content for the console version.
Online Mode - The Online Menu is shown. It includes Ranked Match, Player Match, Tournament and Leaderboards. A new "Warm-Up" Mode also appears next to Ranked Match.
Player Profiles / Life Bar Customization - Like in the arcade version, players can earn various player profile designs and health bar customizations. Several new designs are shown in the trailer.

Katsuhiro Harada Talks Bringing VR to Tekken 7 and Tekken x Street Fighter
Recently, Tekken 7’s legendary game director Katsuhiro Harada sat down with IGN and spoke about how his team is handling PSVR support for the game, as well as provided an update on the current status of Tekken x Street Fighter.
Talking about PSVR support, Harada-san fielded a question from a gamer that mentioned PSVR support being played in first-person. To which the director responded that a lot of people would assume that the game’s PSVR support would be in first person, but actually this isn’t the case. Harada-san mentions that he actually experimented with the first-person Tekken concept a few years ago when the team was first looking into VR, and according to the director, “it’s not as exciting as many people would think.” Harada-san points out that the experience is not very fun, and when, for example, you’re knocked up in the air for an aerial juggle, it’s very jarring and again, not a lot of fun.
All of that being said, Harada-san explains with this previous knowledge that the PSVR experience being created is more tailored for Tekken itself, and that taking Tekken and adapting it to first-person VR wouldn’t (and isn’t) the best way to do it. According to the director, this is why the team ended up focusing more on the character elements, where you can customize your character and look at it from various angles. And in a battle with a CPU opponent, you can slow down the match and change the camera angle “so you can see the game like you’ve never seen it before.”
As for Tekken x Street Fighter, Harada-san reiterates previous made points, simply stating that the timing is currently just not right. The director mentions that Capcom is currently busy with Street Fighter V and it (Bandai Namco) is currently busy with Tekken 7, and so the pair decided it was best not to split the audience around these two games with a third title. Thus, according to the director, it’s more about the timing, “and waiting for the right chance.”
As for whether Tekken 7 will include more Street Fighter characters — it already includes Akuma — Harada-san says “that’s tough to answer.” According to him, Akuma’s inclusion is something the team wanted years ago, and they knew they wanted him for a specific part of the game’s story, and thus he was built into the game during its development. To add more Street Fighter characters would be “difficult.” However, Harada-san doesn’t rule it out entirely, and rather says there is currently no plans to add more, but it’s not like they couldn’t think up of ways to do it.

Tekken 7 Gets Details on Rage-Quitting, Guest Characters, Possibility of Nintendo Switch Port, and More
Recently, Tekken 7’s legendary game director Katsuhiro Harada (with translator and producer Michael Murray) sat down with GameSpot to discuss a variety of Tekken 7-related things, including: rage-quitting, a possible Nintendo Switch version, guest characters, and more.
Speaking about rage-quitting Harada-san explained that you can’t keep someone froM physically pulling out the LAN cable, and thus the only thing you can do is make said player not want to do that by having some type of penalty in place. The director explained that he couldn’t go into the details of their rage-quitting prevention system, but he did confirm the team has penalties planned. Explaining why he opted to not go into further details about what Bandai Namco are planning, Harada-san said the following:
“We don’t want to go into a lot of detail right now because the hackers and such will already start about thinking of ways to circumvent that. But we do have plans to implement some penalties.”
As for guest characters Harada-san asked his Twitter followers to send in their guest character requests, and much to the surprise of the director, the request (requests) that stood out the most was Kazuma, who as you may know is one of the main characters in the Yakuza series.
As he has previously echoed, Harada-san pointed out that guest characters are a complicated matter. The game will ship with Akuma of Street Fighter fame, but this was something the team knew it wanted years ago, and thus Akuma was built into the game. Harada-san has not entirely ruled more guest characters, but has said there is currently no plans for more.
Back to Kazuma, Harada-san says that the reason his name coming up was a surprise was that he wasn’t even aware that Western gamers were aware of the character, let alone would want him for Tekken 7. Alas, the chances of Kazuma ending up in the game are probably pretty low, but at least a seed was sown.
Elsewhere in the interview, Harada talks about Tekken 7 and its chances of coming to the Nintendo Switch. In short, it looks unlikely. Harada specifically said the following:
“Officially, we can’t really comment on that because our company has strict policy about which titles we talk about for Switch,. But personally, we’ve been so busy with trying to master up Tekken for the current platforms that we haven’t really had enough time to study the hardware. We couldn’t even buy it–it was sold out every time we went to look for it.”
Harada-san also talks about the feedback he and his team gathered from the Arcade Edition and Tekken 7’s post-launch DLC.
“Tekken has always followed the pattern where we release first in the arcade and then we polish up the game according to user feedback. But even more than individual player opinions, we look at the data to kind of decide what changes need to be made to the game. That occurs constantly throughout the process in the Arcade. For Tekken 7, specifically, the income was quite good. The income is kind of a barometer of what people think about the game, but it was one of the best in the series right out of the date. But the arcade, it’s not so prevalent in the west in Europe or the US, but those players are watching on the internet; matches and stuff.
They were saying the characters costumes were the same as past installments, which was done intentionally to establish the characters, but they said it didn’t feel as fresh because of that. The same costume designs. And also the look of the game; it doesn’t look so drastically different than past installments. So for Fated Retribution, which was an update to the arcade edition, we made a lot of additions to the costumes for the existing characters. And also changed the filter to make the dark areas more dark, the light areas more light to give it more contrast to have more visual appeal.”
“As far as post-release plans, we can’t really talk in a whole lot of detail now because that’s something that our marketing teams around the world are still trying to come to consensus on. The game itself, we finally just got the master as well so. One thing we can say is in the past, Tekken after release, we had the system where we had some characters that would be unlocked gradually for two or three months after launch, but that was as much as we could do at that time. But this time, Tekken 7 is the first that is going to have DLC, paid DLC, and a Season Pass. This allows us to keep the team available for making changes and updates to the game for a longer span–over a year or so. We plan to support the game for a longer period this time.”
