With multiple counter techniques and a daunting stun potential, Kolin looks to be one of the most unique Street Fighter 5 characters yet Well aware of the numerous copy/paste characters in fighting game history, Street Fighter 5 developers have openly shared is their initiative to ensure the cast of their game is diverse, and that each character has a unique identity when it comes to fighting style. Much of this diversity pivots on V-Skills and V-Triggers, and though we only know the basics on upcoming character Kolin, it seems she may be one of the most unique fighters yet. In one of his Kolin breakdowns, Vepser Arcade highlights her counter-based V-Skill technique along with her stun bar manipulating V-Trigger. Though other fighters do have counter techniques in SF5, Kolin seems to have a low, medium, high special move counter as well as her aforementioned V-Skill counter. Perhaps her most unique trait comes in her V-Trigger, which freezes her opponent's stun bar until they successfully hit Kolin. www.eventhubs.com/images/2017/feb/13/stun-freeze/This will surely make for some interesting changes in pace and approach. Check out Vesper's full breakdown video below. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's how Kolin's V-moves work in Street Fighter 5 Season 2 In anticipation of the next Street Fighter 5 Season 2 character, the official Street Fighter Twitter page has posted a quick video explaining how Kolin's V-moves work. We learn that her V-Skill can only counter physical strikes, and her reversal gets her out of danger. Source: eventhubs

Kolin Street Fighter 5 gameplay footage from LPN and FloE plus initial impressions from Justin Wong Players at the Street Fighter X Lupe Fiasco event this evening were privy to Street Fighter 5's newest DLC fighter, Kolin. We've grabbed a bunch of gameplay footage as players such as Circa|LPN and FloE, (who already has combos and set ups) show her off. In addition we have a collection of impressions from FOX|Justin Wong "Kolin game will revolve around her command dashes in my opinion. She can use her command dash to get out of block string. EX command dash is strike invulnerable," started Wong. He then continued with quite a few follow up tweets: Continue on to see Kolin in action. The first six of these feature LPN in a Kolin mirror match. You'll see an array of specials, basic movements, throws and also some explanatory commentary from Sajam and Tasty Steve. xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/PleasantLocustRuleFive xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/AttractiveSwallowHassanChop In clip number four we see the vast amount of damage Kolin's counter does. xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/PoisedCobraSSSsss xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/AlertFishOpieOP LPN shows off a meaty set up in clip five. xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/LightTapirStrawBeary xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/GracefulTermiteRitzMitz In the final clip, FloE shows off a crazy combo. xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/CharmingDolphinSriHead xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/DifficultReindeerOSkomodo ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's 10 minutes of Kolin footage from last night's Street Fighter X Lupe Fiasco event Capcom Fighters ran the live stream of the Street Fighter X Lupe Fiasco event. Celebrating the new DROGAS Light album release, the Capcom Pro Tour 2017 kick off, and Street Fighter 5 Season 2's next DLC fighter, there was much fighting game action to behold. Attendees were able to try out Kolin, the game's next DLC fighter, for the first time. We saw quite a bit of footage of her last night, and for those who may have missed it, The BEAST uploaded a quick 10 minutes of Kolin footage from the event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kolin has 1000 health and 1000 stun in Street Fighter 5 It is very typical for female fighters to have less than average stamina values for their health and stun. It seems Kolin will not be following this trend though. Kolin will have 1000 health and 1000 stun in Street Fighter 5. It seems as though Kolin's "stats" were changed to better reflect this (increased from 2 to 3). For the sake of context for those that don't already know this, this puts Kolin's health and stun to be equal to characters like Ryu and Ken. The only other female character to share this trait in Street Fighter 5 is Laura. Source: eventhubs

The images of the Season 2 silhouettes appear to show different parts of the characters Many individuals have been pointing out that the vision of the silhouettes are showing different sides of the unrevealed characters, revealing a few more details regarding the characters. Is this enough to figure out who these characters are? In particular, the third and fifth silhouettes appears to be revealing different parts than they previously did. Below, I've provided a look at the silhouettes as they appear on the CFN site. The second image showcases what the silhouettes used to look like and the third image showcases both of them together so it's easy to see the differences. Source: eventhubs

Kolin's character introduction series gives us her background and how she plays before release
Capcom Fighters has released a video detailing Kolin's history within the Street Fighter series and an introduction to the character's playstyle before the character is released.
Interestingly enough, Kolin's V-Skill, while unsafe on block, apparently leads to a full combo on hit. I suppose it's not too surprising that it is unsafe considering its armored/counter properties.
It is stated outright that Kolin is suitable for players who like mind games, but it is noted that Kolin lacks an invincible reversal. Kolin's combo game overall looks pretty impressive despite not having the highest damage in the game, as mentioned in the video.

Unsafe specials, decent (but not broken) damage and plenty of technical mix ups; here's what we learned from Kolin's WSO showcase
We got to see another Kolin highlight today on the WSO live stream, and we think we've got a pretty good initial impression of the newest Street Fighter character.
Considering we haven't played her at all yet, and have only seen footage from two showcases, please preface any and all upcoming impressions with the phrase, "From what we've seen thus far, it appears as though..." as I'd rather not write it fifty times.
From our takeaways today, Kolin is mobile, reset heavy, not a zoner and very technical. She has a few techniques like her command dash and double jump that have various options housed within them. For example, she can access certain target combos only from her command dash:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/GentleApeMingLee
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/LuckyKangarooKappaRoss
She requires a lot of thought, and her damage is decent... which, for SF5, is a breath of fresh air. She has a very obvious strength in her potential for mix ups once she scores a knock down, and her V-Trigger stun mechanic is very interesting.
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/FineCarabeefPicoMause
According to commentators on the WSO stream, none of her special moves are safe on block. This means players will not have the leisure of tossing out Hail Mary attacks in hopes that they'll hit and lead into big damage sequences. Her V-Trigger cancel has quite a bit of recovery, and we see that a V-Reversal will often negate it:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/capcomfighters/SuperWaspMrDestructoid
Her unique projectile that rains down from above opponents' heads will most certainly make for some interesting mix ups after knock down, but she'll have to earn her way into said mix ups.
It's early, but it looks like Kolin will be pretty fun to play with and against. Her obvious strength is in her ability to rack up stun damage, which we imagine will lead to some very tense situations in tournament play.
Her risk/reward seems decently balanced from what we've seen, but if she were to join the game as it is right now I don't think she'd be all that strong against the higher tiers. Hopefully she is a testament to the direction Capcom is taking SF5 in their upcoming balance patch.

Collect 6,600 FM with this week's missions - here's how to complete "Safety Measures" and other missions Another batch of missions to complete for some easy fight money. This week, 6,600 fight money can be yours with a session of matches. Like the previous weeks, three out of the four challenges are self explanatory and straight forward, while there is a 5,000 FM challenge that is a bit more cryptic. This cryptic mission is called "Safety Measures." Let's cover how it's done. Safety Measures: You'll need to go to the Bustling Side Street stage. Take note of the neon signs that sit in the middle of the stage. You'll need to use air attacks within close vicinity of each of the signs in order to cause them to shut off their lights and barely hang off. Do this for all of the signs (some will take multiple attacks). Once done, all you'll have to do is win the match to earn 5,000 FM. www.eventhubs.com/images/2017/feb/24/safety-measures-1/www.eventhubs.com/images/2017/feb/24/safety-measures-2/Perform a combo 10 time(s): Perform 10 combos in either Ranked, Casual, or Battle Lounge matches. This will earn you 100 FM. Play a Ranked Match: This mission is worth 1000 FM. Simply play one ranked match to earn your fight money. Play a trial: Enter the trials and perform one of the trials to earn 500 FM. Source: eventhubs

Could Capcom be looking to alter Street Fighter 5's risk/reward balance in the next update? Kolin's gameplay footage leads us to think so The Street Fighter 5 community eagerly awaits the upcoming patch for Season 2 as the balance changes for some characters have left a bit of a bitter taste in a few mouths. At this point we really have no idea just how much or how little Capcom is looking to change in SF5, but we do now have a potential glimpse at the direction developers are intending to take things. That glimpse comes from the gameplay footage that we've seen for the not yet released character: Kolin. We got our first viewing at the Lupe Fiasco X Street Fighter event last week, and then another showcase yesterday during the WSO Sessions in London. We haven't gotten our hands on Kolin yet, and she very well may just be a singularity amongst the game's now 24 character roster, but we feel there's a good chance Kolin could represent the bigger picture for the next balance update. Kolin is a very unique character, which falls in line with Capcom's initiative to avoid any copy/paste fighters on the SF5 roster, that has a relatively vast array of special moves. She has two types of counter techniques in her V-Skill and command counter, a command dash that leads into various finishers, a hailing projectile that appears to be great for wake up mix ups, a double jump technique and a multi-strike dagger hands attack. None of her special moves are safe on block. That's huge. One of the major complaints in the game's current build is in the risk/reward. Characters like Urien or Balrog can toss out various attacks that are low risk but yield tons of damage and/or advantageous situations if they happen to find their mark. From what we've seen thus far, Kolin will not be able to carelessly fish with rewarding attacks because if her opponent blocks she'll be punished. While she's capable of doling out some good damage, the aforementioned details about her specials would likely put her at a pretty big disadvantage when compared to a good portion of the cast. In the same vein, many characters can cancel their V-Triggers to make otherwise unsafe moves plus on block. Heavy hitting moves like sweep or other potential Crush Counters can have their risk completely lifted by a quick V-Trig cancel. It appears this may not be the case with Kolin: xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/HardSolidMagpieLeeroyJenkins In short, Kolin looks like she really has to earn her hits. Once that happens, she's got some great tools to keep the pressure on and score some big damage via stun, but I doubt we'll see too much YOLO moves into round ending damage with her. Again, if this speculation is accurate, I don't see her fairing too well against the likes of characters that can afford to be more careless... unless they're changed to fit this style we're seeing with Kolin. Perhaps this idea of higher risk will become commonplace for the Street Fighter 5 cast. If that does happen, will it make the game more fun to play at a competitive and/or casual level? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 'The Phantasm of Snow and Ice' - Kolin's Street Fighter 5 trading card has been released Hype is building as we've seen Kolin in action a few times now, and are just days away from her February 28th release date. 'The Phantasm of Snow and Ice' - Kolin's Street Fighter 5 video trading card has been released Kolin's video trading card has been added to this story. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kolin's Frost Touch counter is reminiscent of Gouken, she also has a separate V-Skill counter - Eurogamer shares impressions Eurogamer managed to get some hands-on time with the new character down at Capcom's London office and has since shared their findings. Sitting down with Capcom UK Community Manager Matt Edwards, Eurogamer was able to get more information on the intricacies of Kolin, as well as score some slick new gameplay footage. While most fans who have been following the Kolin coverage know that she has a counter move -- her V-Skill -- it feels as though the fact that she has another counter attack hasn't gotten much attention. Her Frost Touch is a special move that counters oncoming hits and works much like Gouken's in Street Fighter 4: a different variation for high, mid, and low attacks. www.eventhubs.com/images/2017/feb/28/kolins-counter-street-fighter-5/EX Frost Touch veers off from Gouken, though, in that it doesn't cover all options. You'll still have to make the correct read, but doing so will tack on more damage. All versions of the counter cause a hard knockdown, however. Eurogamer goes on to discuss how Kolin's V-Trigger makes her one of the most unique characters in Street Fighter, as well as deliver more general gameplay impressions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WSO Sessions stream featuring more Kolin action xhttps://www.twitch.tv/videos/125450420 Source: eventhubs

Hidden balance changes that nerf Alex and more found - VesperArcade goes over some of the hidden changes found in the Kolin update patch
As noted by VesperArcade in his video, there have been hidden balance changes found in the latest patch that brought us Kolin. Three characters have apparently been very slightly nerfed while one character was given a "buff."
Alex, for whatever reason, has apparently received two nerfs. It seems his command grab can no longer tick throw after the opponent blocks his heavy flash chop.
In addition to this, Alex's horzontal hurtbox has been extended, making him even easier to hit. Chun Li and Balrog have apparently also received hurtbox extensions while doing certain actions.
Meanwhile, Dhalsim received a buff to his grab range. Vesper believes it to be a buff that essentially does nothing though, since the range buff is so incredibly marginal to make any sort of difference.

Exclusive crimson Chun-Li color granted to Japanese player for winning the RAGE Master League Capcom are doing some interesting fan interaction lately with Japanese events, as this Chun-Li player who goes by YamadaTaro online got a very special Chun-Li color for winning the event. The color itself can be viewed by anyone, so if you go to track down his replays (one of the highest ranked Chun-Li's online, so he shouldn't be too hard to find), you'll be able to see it in action for yourself. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eight hours of Street Fighter 5 server maintenance scheduled for Tuesday, March 7th... could this be the balance patch we've been waiting for? Street Fighter 5 servers will be down this coming Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day PDT. Seeing as we just had a fairly major update for Kolin a mere few days ago, our best guess is that this will have something to do with the upcoming balance patch. Here's the official notice: Judging from updates passed, a full eight hours of down time means some pretty major work is being done. Rarely do we see such large downtime sessions for SF5 servers within a week's time from each other. Source: eventhubs

This video demonstrates that the PlayStation 4 Pro's boost mode feature can shave off up to 12 seconds from SF5's load time
Not too long ago, we heard reports of the PlayStation Pro's boost mode feature shaving off up to 7 seconds from Street Fighter 5. XusesGB has uploaded a video that puts that statement to the test.
In this video, a variety of Street Fighter 5's features are tested in both the PlayStation 4 Pro's boost mode and without boost mode. The most interesting difference is showcased when the game first starts up.
The difference ended up being even greater than the originally reported 7 seconds while starting the game up in boost mode. It ended up being a 12 second difference.

A quick 6,100 Fight Money for finishing this week's Street Fighter 5 missions: Here's how to complete 'Blunder Bus' and the others A fresh batch of Street Fighter 5 missions has gone live, prompting players to complete specific tasks to earn Fight Money. This week's set of four challenges will score you a quick 6,100 FM. As always, there are three missions that are straightforward and one a bit more cryptic. "Blunder Bus" is the challenge that requires a little more digging to complete, but don't worry, we've got you covered. Blunder Bus: On the Bustling Side Street state, move your opponent all the way over to the right side. KO them with an attack that will send them into the bus. Once that's done, simply finish out the game -- this cannot be done in training mode -- and you'll earn 5,000 FM. Join a Battle Lounge: Simply selecting the Battle Lounge option on the main menu will net you an extra 500 FM. Use a V-Skill 10 times: Once you're in the online mode, be sure to join a ranked or casual match to complete this next mission. Use your V-Skill 10 times in a match and you will earn 100 FM. Play Story Mode: The final mission is another very quick one. Just boot up the game's story mode. That's it. Doing so rewards you with the final 500 FM to round out your 6,100 FM. Source: eventhubs

You can earn 3,000 FM in Street Fighter 5 while you watch Final Round 20, here's how Capcom has brought new incentive to watching Pro Tour events live as they are awarding Street Fighter 5 Fight Money to viewers via "Quests" on Twitch. At this point it appears as though only PlayStation users can access this FM due to the fact that you'll need a PlayStation ID. We'll update this if we find PC users can also participate. To do this you'll need to watch the top eight of Final Round over on this page. Once there, you'll need to log in with you PlayStation ID. After you're in, you'll notice a "Quests" tab in the lower right portion of the stream interface. Here's an image for visual reference: Click the tab to reveal the four Quests for the Final Round stream. We detail how to do each one below. Let's Get Started - 500 FM You've already done this by logging in. Simply click "Claim Your Prize" (be sure to click this after you've met the criteria for each of the Quests) and you'll score 500 FM. Tell Your Friends! - 500 FM To the left of the "Quests" tab you'll see buttons to share the stream on Facebook. Share it and you'll unlock this reward. Spread the Word! - 500 FM You'll need to click the "Social" tab and retweet three of Capcom Fighters' tweets about Final Round 20. Stream Monster Champion - 1,500 FM Watch 60 minutes of top 8 to nab this hefty chunk of Fight Money. Source: eventhubs
