Is SF5 going back to roots? www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/17/street-fighter-5-return-series-roots-matt-dahlgren-talks-mechanics-easter-eggs-game-currency-and-how-sf-vs-mk-wont-ever-happen/We recently posted an IGN interview with Capcom's Brand Director, Matt Dahlgren. We've since gone through to highlight some of the more interesting bits that Dahlgren had to offer.
In addition to detailing the way Vega and Necalli play, Dahlgren addresses the intentional departure from Street Fighter 4's mechanics. He states, "Street Fighter 5 is a product that learns from all previous SF iterations... game play wise, SF5 is a return to the series' roots." Street Fighter 4 had a something of a safety net in Focus Attack mechanics for players who would gravitate toward ripping uppercuts or avoiding footsies by absorbing a hit during a Focus charge.
Certainly SF4 still requires footsies, and there are ways to best FADC-abusers, but SF4 has been viewed by many as the Street Fighter with training wheels when compared to most every other title in the series. Street Fighter 5 will be a return to committed decisions and honest reads.
Hit the jump for Dahlgren's inputs on Fight Money, the in-game currency, hidden Easter eggs, clones and more. Fight Money
While we've known that SF5's in-game currency will be used to unlock new characters and content, we haven't been privy to knowing exactly how we'll come across said income. While he doesn't go into great detail, Dahlgren does reveal a significant aspect on this topic.
In the interview, we discover that Fight Money will be obtainable via playing both online and offline. We don't know if this means we'll be generating income via Versus or Training mode, for which our fingers are crossed, or simply from climbing Arcade mode ladders.
Individual Characters
Developers are taking special care to take what each character is known for, and bring it to life. Ken and Ryu, two characters that have been traditionally viewed as clone-like, are being articulated in very different ways.
Dahlgren explains that while they didn't want to alter Ryu too much, as he's the company's poster boy, they have changed just about everything about Ken. From his technical approach to his visual appearance, he's got his own SF5 identity, and they plan to do this with every character on the roster.
"It's really kind of Ken's true form. We haven't really let him be unleashed in the past, so this is definitely the most aggressive version that we've had."
Easter Eggs
As we've seen in the current, limited version of the game, if you KO an opponent near the edges of the Chinese street stage, you get a bonus animation involving either a bus, a wall break or a bowl of noodles that winds up on the loser's head.
When asked if we can expect more goodies like this Dahlgren replied, "There are Easter eggs that're peppered throughout the game." He notes that if you KO with Birdie's Critical Art, you can plant your opponent into the ground. He does not reveal specifics, but notions that it's better to discover these organically.
SF vs. MK
At one point, Destin Legarie asks if there's any possiblity at all that we could see a Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter cross over. Dahlgren quickly and clearly states that this isn't something he can ever see happening, "No hard feelings, (to Nether Realm Studios,) but right now we're just focused on our own franchise."
If you'd like to see the full interview, you can do so here:

I don't understand why people would care about something so useless. Isn't it impossible to add to a game anyways? If not impossible it would be expensive to program every match up and match ups aren't learned in one day..... unless it was added as an update its impossible. No matter how I look at it, it's impossible to program a cpu to play like a human..

Will Ingrid be in SF5? www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/18/certain-eternal-goddess-her-way-street-fighter-5-roster-very-strong-hint-street-fighters-twitter-makes-us-think-so/One of the most powerful, and short, beings in the Street Fighter universe may be on her way to the Street Fighter 5 roster. Ingrid, AKA the Eternal Goddess, wound up in a very curious tweet from Street Fighter's Twitter today: Ingrid was originally intended to appear in the ill-fated Capcom Fighting All Stars, but instead made her debut in Capcom Fighting Evolution, and popped up in Street Fighter 3 Alpha MAX.
It feels as though Ingrid would make a perfect addition to the SF5 roster, as she's been away from the series for quite some time, yet still retains her appeal with many fans. Her unique style would certainly fit the bill with SF5's determined approach of individualizing each character.
With what was said in the tweet, we feel like there's a fairly strong chance of our seeing Ingrid soon. What do you think? Are we reading into things, or is Ingrid on the horizon? Let us know in the comments.

R.Mika, Karin and Ingrid all in one game. Same game where the female characters have gotten sexier [See: Cammy]. Plus Kim Wu for Killer Instinct.

I wonder if they would sexify Ingrid and Karin. It would be nice to see them past the school clothes. Especially Karin. Ingrid is immortal though so I guess she can keep hers. Cammy and Chun look better no doubt. Cammy wouldn't hurt with a rounder butt, but it's a step up from SF4.

Well sounds like dlc to me if they do add her. I don't care if she makes it or not since I never really played much of alpha 3

More stress tests: www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/20/street-fighter-5-beta-plans-updated-regional-stress-tests-begin-today-europe-other-countries-and-global-beta-near-future/Updated again: Information about Japan and Asia's beta test has been released over on the Saikyo blog. Participants will be able to access the beta in Japan and Asia on August 22nd and 23rd from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. JST on both days.
Earlier: Capcom has recently announced the new plan for the Street Fighter 5 beta, with regional stress tests taking place today, starting with Europe. They will take place from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. BST today and tomorrow for Europe only.
Once Capcom is confident with those test results, they will then announce dates and times for regional tests for North America and Asia. After those tests are finished, they will then announce the global beta test, which will still take place over the promised five days of time.
Though they feel the tests will be a smoother experience this time, it's worth noting that these are still tests, and as such issues can occur throughout.

Online battle systems: www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/20/street-fighter-5s-rankings-will-be-unified-ps4-and-pc-capcom-re-working-bppp-system-considering-online-rematch-option/During E3 a few months ago, we were able to get an interview with Matt Dahlgren, Director of Brand Marketing and eSports at Capcom, to ask him all about Street Fighter 5.
One of the most interesting selling points of Street Fighter 5 is it's cross play functionality between PC and PS4. Though we haven't heard too much about this functionality, Capcom's Matt Dahlgren shed some light on the matter recently.
Commenting on the ranked leaderboard for Street Fighter 5, Dalhgren said "they will be global, that's part of the purpose of uniting the community, so there is a centralized playerbase, and we can have one unified ranking system."
Of course, this means that not only will matches be cross play, but so will leaderboard rankings, for a completely unified experience. Capcom also teased some new things to come related to ranked games and the online experience.
Hit the jump for some more details. When asked if Capcom was going to use the traditional PP/BP system developed for Street Fighter 4 in Street Fighter 5 or go with something completely new, we were told they are certainly changing up the system, and we would learn more about it very soon.
To close things out in our interview, we asked about whether or not Capcom was considering a rematch option for online play, so players could easily and immediately run back matches.
Dahlgren happily answered, stating the following "we've definitely heard that request, and it will be a discussion point within our company for sure." We can certainly hope for such, as said feature has been heavily demanded over the years.
It would seem that Capcom is looking to shake things up in terms of online infrastructure, ranked match play, and replay value/ease of use. What kinds of things would you like to see them add to make the online experience whole?

Frame Data: www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/20/street-fighter-5s-frame-data-uncovered-toolassisted-full-charts-nash-and-ryu-detailed-within/ToolAssisted has had quite a bit of time with the Street Fighter 5 beta, and has certainly put the time to great use. He has since tweeted out full google spreadsheets for Ryu and Nash's frame data in Street Fighter 5.
These comprehensive charts detail all of their normals, specials, throws, dashes, and more, showing the entirety of their frame data. This includes recovery, start up, and even things like damage. Some of them are also color coded by speed to give an idea of a normal's usefulness.
It goes without saying that any of this data can change, as it is a beta, but it's certainly interesting to see where it's at as of now, and what it's like in the environment currently being tested.
Hit the jump to check out two of ToolAssisted's tweets, with the spreadsheets enclosed./photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw /photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

As a person who comes from a game where most things can be punished I'm kinda sad so many things are plus. I know a lot will change though It doesn't look that bad as most things are negative outside of lights and a few mediums. SF4's offense was terrible with everything being negative on block and with the pushback. Just irritating. Hopefully this game turns out better.

The way I see it is only meaty strong/forwards should be plus. Charlie has a plus 2 crouch fierce!! Think about kof though. Ioris standing low was -1 and offense in that game was great! The reason sf4 offense was soo bad is because blocking had no consequences. Guard break is hopefully fixing that now

Lights are fast, weak, and safer. It's best that way unless they have crazy range. If lights were all negative why would you use them? Pressure would be awful and you'd have weaker offense. Street Fighter x Tekken went too far and it was all jab, jab, jab. That's also bad. Offense was bad in SF4 because it was overly defensive. Low blockstun so it's easy to interrupt, huge reversal windows, invincible backdashes, focus attacks ruin footsies, no block bar, ultras rewarding loser players, huge stages, slow speed. SF5 seems to be taking notice of this and fixing it. Not to mention SF4 has slow overheads and crappy damage with huge scaling.

It just emphasizes holding down back. With crouch teching it was too much. In Kof the best "overheads" were throws because you had to stand to tech them and they were fast and unblockable. This prevented extreme turtling. Did you read about how they changed the link system from lights?

no. Or are you just talking about how you cant get much off light hit confirms anymore? best overhead in kof was short hop lol I think kof is the only game where I can tech throws well for some reason. It just makes more sense then Lp+lk. Although the run mechanic makes it viable so probably wouldn't work in 5

There might be a few exceptions though. Hops were great too, but you could react to those, but having a hop is much better than what SF4 has.

Who's the new character? Could it be Mika? www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/23/yoshinori-ono-says-he-finally-got-his-wish-regards-upcoming-street-fighter-5-announcement-pax-prime-weekend/?page=1In a string of tweets today, Yoshinori Ono drew quite a bit of attention towards upcoming Street Fighter 5 events. He first disclosed that he's preparing to depart for Dubai to prep for an upcoming SF5 event, but that this will make it impossible for him to attend PAX Prime this weekend.
Though he won't be there, Ono took special care to remind us that there's going to be a special announcement at PAX. Just a few minutes later, an excited Ono followed up with this: Knowing Ono's eccentric nature, "my wish" could mean almost anything. There are a few speculations to be had here. The character of whose figurine Ono totes around virtually everywhere, Blanka, could be on the horizon.
Ono has gone on record saying that he's a big R. Mika fan, and that higher ups have stopped him from including her in Street Fighter 4. Perhaps the time is now?
What are your speculations about Ono's tweets today? Let us know in the comments.

Some hater comments from Eventscrubs.
"Well, we'll find out soon enough what Ono has up his sleeve....
In regards to R Mika, I will say one thing. Unveiling her in a few days could potentially lead to some unfortunate pitfalls and unwanted negativism for SFV. As we all know, Capcom's big goal is to grow the community, enlarge the tournament scene and attract lots of new mainstream players.
What do you think the big regular news sites - Kotaku, Polygon, Gamespot, etc - would make of a character dressed like R Mika? Remember the media backlash against "Quiet" in Metal Gear and the regular scorn thrown weekly at the DOA series. I am actually surprised that all those sites and blogs have been mostly silent in regards to Cammy's SFV outfit, and I think that is because her design is so old and well known. Cammy is a legacy character and people just accept her at this point.
But among the ordinary gaming populace R Mika is totally obscure if known at all, so I think that there is a BIG risk that the gaming sites and angry female gamer blogs might let out a collective "WTF??!!!" if Mika and her butt shows up in a trailer the next few days. And here at Eventhubs there would be much hand wringing and angry debates back and forth.
Remember, Capcom wants to bring newcomers in, and R Mika fits just the type of character designs that has been considered tone-deaf and negative by the public debate of recent years. Think of how little respect the DOA community gets in the wider online world. For the sake of the game and it's community, I think Capcom should consider the bigger picture and retire R Mika. It might get ugly otherwise. Remember who said it first."

I for sure don't want Mika. Shes a grappler right? I don't really agree with not adding her because of how she is dressed though. Only thing they need to do is redesign her outfit and remove her mask..problem solved

Tell me about it. Thank god. Here's more: "It's just a realization, as I've gotten older, that not everything has to shamelessly cater to my status as a white hetero male, ESPECIALLY if it does so to the detriment of everyone else."I for sure don't want Mika. Shes a grappler right? I don't really agree with not adding her because of how she is dressed though. Only thing they need to do is redesign her outfit and remove her mask..problem solved I like her silly design but I wouldn't have a problem with a redesign if she looked good. R. Mika had a very unique gameplay that was over the top and had grappling with speed. This made her stand out amongst the other shoto clones and dull/weird characters. Many people complaining are SJW's, people who are 3s fanboys, or some other dopes. Nothing wrong with preferring another character, but people are just taking it too far at this point. Either way I'm glad to see a cooler character in without it just being SF2 all over again.

Latest Build: Editor's Note: At this point, we are unable to fully confirm these changes are 100% accurate, as we don't have access to the current build.
We've gotten wind, from VersusFightingTV, of the latest changes to the Street Fighter 5 build. As far as we know, these are not changes to the current beta, so don't expect to necessarily see this build at home quite yet. This is what you'd find if you get your hands on an SF5 cabinet at an event.
Also, as this is not straight from Capcom, this list may not be exhaustive of all the current changes. Such alterations as nixing Kara throws and adding new Crush Counters and V-Reversals may make for some interesting developments.
After the jump, you'll find the full change list along with two videos featuring game play of the current build. Street Fighter 5 August Build Changes
• Kara throws have been removed. • Light to medium combos have been removed. • Bison's flame is now a quarter circle back input. • Bison's cr. HP is now a Crush Counter. • Ken's back, st.MP, st.HP target combo now knocks down. • New sound effects for V-Triggers. • Necalli gains armor on certain EX-attacks. • Birdie's V-Trigger activation is now an anti-air. • Nash teleport is nerfed, some combos are not possible anymore • Dragon Punches on guard are now on Crush Counter weakness. (We speculate this may mean that you're susceptible to Crush Counter properties if hit during the recovery of a Dragon Punch.) • Each character now has a kick V-Reversal and a punch V-Reversal. • Each character now has kick Crush Counter and a punch Crush Counter.
