Beating someone else starts with beating yourself since they are above you already. Its more like motivation to me. Having the confidence you can do better then someone else is never a bad thing if you don't do it in a negative way! If someone does something better then me I can still appreciate what they achieved too but at the same time try and be better then them.
I just use myself as a motivator to overcome what my problems are. Nothing wrong with a training partner or beating people who used to beat you, but some people care about winning more than actually learning anything and it hurts them in the long run, if that makes sense.

I'm talking in general my view on having a competitive nature overall.
I like the learning and dissecting stuff too. I've always liked looking at information and figuring out new stuff. That's why stocks are fun to me.

It is true. I do not see myself as part of the "FGC" at all. It's more like... I just a guy who likes to play fighting games. I'd like to play others offline in tournaments if I get the chance, often just for the sake of testing to see how much progress I make as well as to see how many like minded people There is also this sort of negative trend going on between many fighting game players. It seems like... according to some people within the FGC... cannot play certain fighting games just because you like to play them anymore. You can't like fighting games for aesthetics or for any (harmless) personal reason. People have this tendency to look at each other funny if they pick a certain character or combination to go along with in a fighting game match. I advocate people playing at the best of their ability. "Picking a top tier" is something that cannot be condemned, but at the same time, the players needs to consider other aspects of the game as well, such as specific match ups, strategies, mind games, emotions and character knowledge. People act so funny about these subjects that it would indirectly lead to a bunch of scrubs arguing among each other. One of the issues I have the FGC is the bad attitudes and disgusting mentality that the players develop overtime as they play, like the ones described above. People condemn each other for liking certain aspects of a fighting game or for introducing a specific play style. "Top Player Privilege" is also something that I cannot stand. Even "top players" are going WTF over that nonsense. Any time you want to showcase information or technology in a fighting game, there is often a chance where the said information is outright disregarded. But, if another player showcases the same thing, that player ends up receiving undeserved credit.
These are definitely some of the problems I have the FGC...

I find that these are problems with "communities". People don't think for themselves and just try to fit in and start acting dumb. Bandwagon jumping, tier nonsense.
Then you have this SJW crap and idiotic behavior. Doesn't matter if it's political, financial, gaming, etc.
Same dumb stuff.

I am in the process of making a pastebin on R. Mika... teaching the essentials of R. Mika and her game play. After I finish it, I will share with other potential R. Mika players.

Sounds great. You could make an R. Mika thread for SFV if you like as well or feel that it's necessary.
"Never satisfied, never full, they eat and destroy with grubby hands until nothing is left but piss, but now the judgement of all humans has begun."
From his regular public appearances, Yoshinori Ono is often characterized by his childlike glee, eccentric outfits, carefree smiles and the fact that he constantly totes around a toy figurine.
This can easily sway our perceptions to see this curious little man as a bit disconnected, living in the land of Hadoukens and lollipops, only periodically visiting the real world to sign a few autographs, show off his latest over the top Street Fighter cosplay and lead a public SHORYUKEN fist pump.
The truth of the matter is, Ono is intricately involved in most every step of the developmental processes of the numerous titles he produces. He observes the nuances of every angle of every project, from the technical to the social, and weaves all of this together beautifully to bring forth the games that speak to us in ways that others simply cannot.
In an IGN interview, SF5's Executive Producer shares with us a less apparent side of his life: the business side. For starters, he recalls a rather anxious moment from last year,
"I was in Las Vegas for the Sony conference where we announced (SF5) and announced that it was going to be PS4 exclusive. Within 60 seconds my Twitter feed exploded with people typing the “F” word at me in various iterations."
Hit the jump to see Ono's response to this, his predictions for the SF5 community and much, much more.
Why PlayStation?
Taking this negative backlash in stride, Ono simply lets doubters say their peace, retaining faith in the plan and staying the course.
"Either they’ve gotten tired of typing ("F" word comments) or they’ve somewhat come around to see why we’ve partnered with Sony this way and why we’ve gone through a platform that lets us have cross play between the console and the PC version...
I’d like to think that hopefully, in the meantime, some people might have bought a PS4 and they’ve realized it’s a great platform. Or maybe once they’ve heard of the exclusivity they’ve gone and bought one to play Street Fighter 5, who knows?"
It's still important to know Capcom's motivations in choosing to build an exclusive partnership. Ono notes the specific amenities that Sony's PS4 has to offer, and how they look to supplement the SF5 experience.
"I think that this (console) generation in particular, it’s not so much that there’s a huge difference of power between the PS4 and the other consoles, it’s just that other things like the services, the OS, the flexible online system… These are the things that we really wanted to have at our fingertips.
Street Fighter has been online since Street Fighter 4, so of course it’s very important to keep that part of the game on. We’ve been very pleased with what the PS4 online capabilities have allowed us to do with the game."
Making it Better This Time Around
Ono moves on to show that he still retains an open ear toward the community. Those who voiced their reservations about the way Street Fighter 4's multiple iterations forced players to essentially purchase the game multiple times have been acknowledged.
"People might say that they don’t want to buy a game because they know that there will be a newer version later in the year and they might have some concerns. But this is it. If you go and buy this game on the day it comes out, you’ve got SF5. It’s gonna run continuously from there on."
For those unaware, Street Fighter 5 will indeed feature updates and future content, but any essentials to game play will be offered over time as free DLC.
Ono's Favorites
It's not all business however, as Ono also entertains questions about his personal preferences when it comes to the SF franchise. When asked about his favorite character, he replies with following:
"I’ve always said over the years as people have asked me, my favorite characters are Cammy and Rainbow Mika. Mika in particular has not been in the series for a long time and over the years I’ve heard many many people say to me “Bring her back! Bring her back!” because she only appeared in one game.
Now she’s back! I really hope people can see that I wasn’t ignoring them, I was just finding a way to bring her back into the game. It makes me very happy to see her return too."
A Game for Everyone
As with any new fighting title, developers absolutely must take into account the fact that they're developing a game for both tournament and casual players. There's also the fact that you're going to have veterans and newbies all mixed into the same pot.
Ono assures us that regardless of your status, he and the team have something for you in SF5.
"Whether you’re a new Street Fighter player or an experienced one you have to start over in Street Fighter 5. That’s a great chance for people who haven’t really joined the game before to get into it. I really want to see the audience of Street Fighter widen with this release." The amount of work that goes in to filling such shoes as Yoshinori Ono's must be tremendous. His brilliant balance as he attends to each and every issue, while still maintaining such a light and untroubled persona is inspiring.
There's a lot more to the interview, and you can head on over to IGN for the full scoop.
The WSO live stream featuring the latest build of Street Fighter 5 is currently underway. During the broadcast, a very interesting bit of information was revealed.
When a Dragon Punch or invincible reversal is blocked, the first attack to punish the move will be an automatic counter-hit. Based upon the information from the stream, this only works for meterless reversals at the moment.
During this punish window, every button will result in counter hit. This means that players now have an opportunity to set up free crush counters without being forced to frame trap the opponent or make a hard read.
You can see an example of this new mechanic below.

It should be noted that not all counter-hits will result in crush counter; only buttons that are designated for each individual character.
"Never satisfied, never full, they eat and destroy with grubby hands until nothing is left but piss, but now the judgement of all humans has begun."
I can hear the 09ers complaining about counter hit on blocked dps. Without fadc and now counterhits for bad dps its getting interesting in sfv.
Well they might complain because they can't mash dp's. I'm not sure why dp's should be singled out though. They lost FADC and now they've lost a lot of their invincibility (only mp and ex will be invincible). You have a huge recovery time, do you really need a counterhit in a game with that much damage?
I'll live either way, I hope nobody does one on accident while trying to fireball. The older games didn't have that mechanic and dp's weren't abused.
I guess we'll have to see.

This is a dumb change tbh. Counter hits should always be for whiff command grabs and when punishing the startup of a move.

I feel it's unnecessary as well. DP's have already been toned down, as has zoning. The game has very high damage. Characters who have DP's are balanced out by being weaker in some other area. Why not make crush counters for other moves in the recovery like command grabs or something similar?
I'm not sure why one move needs to be punished so harhly. Seems like it's too much. The huge recovery is enough of a downside IMO. Getting rid of FADC style shenanigans was enough.

I don't have any problem with this. Now people are going to be twice as cautious about the choices they make in the match (even though DP's themselves are already an easy punish... but, now whiffing them is simply suicide).
Wonder how R. Mika feels about this. :]

Yeah that's what I also think. I've never seen it in a fighting game though? maybe that's why they are adding it lol just because nobody has done it

Right but the damage is already very high as is the stun and you can't make it safe. Why are dp's punished more severly than whiffing a fireball or command grab? I think 1/2 health from a whiff dp plus a lot of stun is plenty of punishment. Believe me I don't like mashed inputs any more than the other person. I'm worried this might actually make the game more defensive since players might be too scared to use reversals at low health. It might make it more offensive for the aggressor though.
Do we want to encourage holding down+back instead since there is no chip death outside of supers? I hate that more than random dp's. I think the dumb players will still dp all the same, but they will be easy wins.
R. Mika does have a safe reversal (with meter) doesn't she?
I'm just looking at everything right now. I would rather have this than FADC+ ultra, that's for sure.

I thought whiffed command grabs always caused counter hit in almost all fighters

Well counter hits are supposed to be startup frames. I mean at the end of a move. They shouldn't count as a counter hit in most fighters.
Pretty hard to counter hit a command grab with anything but an invincible move since they usually start up instantly and are unblockable. I was just using it as a general example anyways.

Never mind I just realized its Kof that does that! I normally try to punish with neutral jump cd into butt loops or something lol

Hopping makes it much easier to punish bad throws, especially if you have a good read.

Counter off Dp seems to be for countering fadc dp. Seems too random, I mean the game doesn't even have fadc so, why would you punish Dp specifically?
That's my point. Is this all reversals or just dp's? Why punish just one specific tool in a game where punishments are already harsh? Just seems excessive to me and designed to appease scrubs who complain about it. DP's should be high risk/high reward.

I like the alpha-esque mechanics via the V-gauge: V-Skill, V-Trigger, and V-Reversals. So, I think these extra counters might be unnecessary and I hope they don't go overboard and make the game feel bloated.

Sf4 was weird in that it was dumbed down but overcomplicated as well in the wrong way. We don't need that again.
