Yeah risk reward is pretty decent in sf5. That was the main problem with 4. You could play a whole match without taking any risks. I agree with Jack though its only starting to develope plus theres a patch on the way to fix some of the dumb stuff you could do. How often have you accidentally tech'd a throw to get hit by a neutral jump... well they are changing jump start up frames. Don't know how that will change the game though

If only they fix the rest of the nonsense in this broken game. Just had three gold ragequitters. Can't even get my title so I can drop out. This is garbage.

Shes the worst designed character in 5 imo No neutral game at all just mixups Makes sense. I just want the yellow title. This is horribly designed. R. Mika has weak neutral and strong corner mixups but every character has the same meaty/throw mixup in the corner. The difference is hers is more rewarding and she struggles against DP characters a lot because she's forced to guess. She's very frustrating to play against but gamble characters like that get exposed over time. People let her do too much unsafe stuff. I don't get the arguments people make about "honesty" though. Kof is all about mixups and rush down. XIII had tons of jumping and little poking. Mika plays like a Kof XIII character. What about Dhalsim and his teleport nonsense and same with Bison? Does playing "neutral" matter when you pick Karin and use her overpowered normals to beat Mika? I'm not aiming this at anybody in particular but for people to pick someone like Chun Li and say they're playing "honest" when she has a move for every situation and has more health and stun than weaker characters I find the claims to be dubious. Most Karin players don't play any neutral other than mashing st mk and neutral jumping.

Never said she was good just very very random. She is the new El Fuerte. She doesn't have anything but guesses to get in and that was my point behind bad character design.

She's not El Fuerte because El Fuerte used a bunch of random running around and never had to engage you in neutral. She does have to take risks because her neutral is alot more risky. She's negative on everything but jab and standing lk. It's easy to sit with Karin and use her outstanding normals to keep people out from a safe distance and force them to play your game. What else can she do if she can't contest a character like that in neutral? She has to take large gambles.
I do find the players to be annoying because they tend to do random nonsense. Every character makes you guess on wakeup and dp's are all guessing. Footsies are based on a lot of guessing too. When I guess between a character using a fireball or dashing and grabbing that's not something I know before hand.
You also said that shotos have a single tool for neutral. Which ones are you talking about? I find Karin's st mk to take care of all of her neutral needs without much thoughts. It's 7 frames and hits further than Cammy's st mk while being safer on block and having a faster retracting hurtbox. Pretty mindless to me. Birdie might be just as bad though but he's slow.

That is exactly what I'm saying. I can beat her with stand medium kick alone. Wouldn't you consider that bad character design to lose to 1 normal?

I think that means that Karin's standing medium kick is rather braindead because other characters have problems with it too.
Based on that same logic. Could it be that Karin is a bad character if she loses to guesses in the corner or random air attacks? Characters have weaknesses for a reason.
If they made her neutral better and her corner game weaker I wouldn't really care either way. I just don't get what people mean when they say their characters are more "honest" or whatever.
Again I find playing against Mikas online to be annoying, but I hate fighting Karin too. Stupid mash normals and frame advantage and easy hit confirms into huge damage. Can't count how many times I've beaten her to near death only for her to land one poke into 50% damage or something similar. I think many characters are annoying though. Random Cammys, teleport Dhalsim, Bison, Ken and Ryu mash DP, etc. I don't pick favorites.

ahhh I see your point now. The way I see it is characters that aren't gimmicky/vortex are honest. A top tier that is honest in sf4 would be Fei. Gen is less honest then Fei even though Fei is way better. Top tiers can be pretty honest sometimes. I think chun is easy top 3 but is still pretty honest (non-vtrigger)

I see what you're saying however...
I don't get the logic. So if a character had an instant death jab that killed in neutral would that be honest? Is 3s Chun Li "honest" because she had overpowered pokes with way better rewards on her super? It should be based on risk and reward IMO. How much reward do you get for your risk. Neutral characters are low risk/low reward. Characters like Zangief are higher risk and higher reward.
What's so honest about Fei having vastly superior options in neutral who just bullies you into the corner off of everything and then pressures you to death? Why is this more "honest" than other characters?
Now if you're talking about some glitch or something crazy like that I'll bite, but I'm just not in this case. Overpowered is overpowered.
Is Kim honest in Kof XIII with his absurd normals and other shenanigans? Why is he honest and Chin "dishonest"? Their risk reward ratio is too beneficial to them even if it's handled differently.
People whined about Evil Ryu when he was more honest later when he didn't have his unblockables out of the wazoo. Talk about the biggest bandwagon ever in that case.
Dhalsim is R. Mika anywhere on the screen with better zoning. Laura makes you guess a lot too. Zangief can kill you off of one right guess and he has better neutral. Grapplers are up close mixup characters. That's always been how they worked.

Laura has a fireball to followup so she can play neutral. I wouldn't say she honest though. Gief is actually pretty honest in 5. I think Kim is pretty honest when he doesn't have meter. He has a pretty clean play style. I don't wanna talk about chin..... hes an el fuerte too. Maybe instead of dishonest its better to say cheesy characters.

Gief can guess right and still take off 70% of your bar and he can buffer his super for a long time into half a bar worth of damage. He has several armored move and his jab is a bit silly. I can't count how many times I beat on Gief only for him to win in a few hits like Birdie. He is a polarizing character though. I figured that's what it was. I just look at "cheapness" as a risk reward assessment. Fighting games are full of guesses, neutral to mixups. I don't see Kim's standing D as honest when it goes over lows, hits twice, and you can combo into it. His crossup proof DP. His safe jumps off of everything. Easy high damage HD and of course his ex Hangetsuzan. Chin had his BS and Karate and Beni did too. I think most people are just picking favorites lol.

You try to forward medium punch against Karin at all? That beats a lot of her options clean. It works just like Ibukis crouch medium punch in 4. Haven't tried to whiff punish it yet but seems like her best button to counter karin

Haven't tried to whiff punish it yet but seems like her best button to counter karin With which character? You mean Mika's passion press? Cammy's whiff punish normal is usually st hp. It's still a guessing game against that medium kick though because it recovers so fast. They throw in st hk from time to time too.

If you block stand medium kick once from any range her pressure ends. If she does stand medium kick and then sweeps you will beat it. Not that it'll help you against good players but it destroys most flow chart karin stuff. Good karins won't press a button after a blocked stand medium kick though

Not that it'll help you against good players but it destroys most flow chart karin stuff. Good karins won't press a button after a blocked stand medium kick though Karin's st mk is 7 frames and neutral on block from a very large range with a retracting hurtbox. That's why people spam it so much. Most long range pokes are negative while Karin's is 0 on block. You should beat her sweep most of the time but people like to mash that at the end of a block string. Hence why I hate that kick lol.

Here are details about fightstick issues & firmware bugs from eventhubs:
Razer CEO addresses Xian, Infiltration, and Fuudo's Final Round 19 fightstick issues, cites firmware bug as cause
During the Street Fighter 5 tournament at Final Round 19 this past weekend, a handful of Razer players experienced fightstick issues. Malfunctions affected RZR|Xian, RZR|Fuudo, and RZR|Infiltration during some of their matches.
Min-Liang Tan -- the Co-Founder, CEO and Creative Director of Razer -- took to Facebook last night in order to address the occurrences.
According to his statement, Fuudo, Xian, and Infiltration were all using prototypes of an upcoming PlayStation 4 fightstick from Razer. Tan confirms that the company field tests their new peripherals by having their eSports athletes use them in tournament before they go into mass production.
Though the new PS4 sticks have been working perfectly fine over the past two months, Tan explains that a firmware bug was the root of the malfunctions at Final Round 19. The issue is already being worked on and should be ironed out before the sticks see mass production.
Additionally, Tan notes that any new FGC sponsorships are being suspended until the PS4 stick is ready for production. This, however, will not affect any of the currently sponsored players.
Razer's official statement
It’s with great pleasure that I’d like to announce that RZR|Infiltration has won Final Round - the first premier SF V tournament.
However, while this is a great win for Team Razer and the FGC, it has come to my attention that there was a malfunction of the fighting sticks used by RZR|Xian and RZR|Fuudo at the tournament. These malfunctions have been due to the use of our PS4 prototypes which was also the same one used by Infiltration.
The good news is that we’re committed to the FGC and can confirm that we’ve been working on PS4 products given the move of the FGC to the PS4 platform. And in this case, like every Razer product (and now it’s an open secret), we field-test them all in actual tournament gameplay by our eSports athletes as part of our validation/testing phase before we go into actual mass production. In this case, it’s provided Infiltration with the win as he was using one of our prototypes in the tournament.
The bad news however is that despite our PS4 prototype sticks working flawlessly for the past couple of months, what looks to be a firmware bug resulted in a malfunction of some our prototypes that were used by Xian & Fuudo at the tournament. Rest assured that we’ll be resolving this issue before we go into the next phase of testing and before they go into mass production.
In the light of this, we will suspend any new FGC sponsorships until the PS4 sticks are ready for production. I understand this may cause some concern as we see other corporate sponsors pulling out from the FGC at this time but rest assured we will reinstate our sponsorships for the FGC when our PS4 products are ready and of course our existing support for our players remains unaffected.

Heres an update of World_Combo from eventhubs:
The player who was smitten from the top of the Street Fighter 5 leader boards for cheating is now back on top
About two weeks ago, the top ranked player on the Street Fighter 5 online leader boards was docked over 9,000 points when evidence of rage quitting surfaced online.
(Page 71/Nyu Nozomi Hyuga/Mar 8, 2016 at 11:29pm)
Japanese F.A.N.G player WORLD_COMBO has climbed back to the number one ranked position obtaining 10,732 League Points after falling to a mere 675 back on March 7th.
We're assuming this was all done legitimately, seeing as Capcom made WORLD_COMBO the prime example of punishment for rage quitting players. It's pretty likely they'd be keeping a keen eye on this player in particular, as would the community in general.
Despite questionable actions in the past, it's apparent WORLD_COMBO is the real deal, having climbed the entirety of the SF5 leader boards twice now.

Heres an interview of Infiltration, Tokido, and SonicFox from eventhubs:
Infiltration: I'm not the strongest right now, I just got lucky; Infiltration, Tokido and Sonic Fox sit down with BornFree to discuss Final Round 19
Three of the top eight Street Fighter 5 finalists all at the same time? Our hats go off to BornFree, as he somehow managed to wrangle MCZ|Tokido, RZR|Infiltration and cR|Sonic Fox all into one interview at Final Round 19.
These three top players share their favorite parts of SF5, which players they're afraid of, how SF5 contrasts to Street Fighter 4 and plenty more.
Infiltration interestingly shares that he doesn't feel he is the best at the game right now, and that he was lucky to win Final Round. He then goes on to note that American players, specifically Julio, Brentt and Chris T from SoCal, are very big threats, and have foreign players scrambling.
Also, Tokido describes Necalli's V-Trigger as "activating Super Saiyan" which is awesome.
To those wearing headphones, the decibel level may be a bit high at times. Better to err on the side of too quiet than too loud for this video.

Heres a look at the master titles from eventhubs:
Street Fighter 5's 'Master' titles feature adorable chibi versions of your favorite characters
As many know, there are unlockable titles in Street Fighter 5. When you reach certain levels with characters or complete specific tasks, you'll be rewarded with a special icon that can be displayed in your fighter profile.
Earlier today, RazielXYZ on r/StreetFighter posted images of some adorable titles featuring each character on the current roster.
www.reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/comments/4by218/chibi_title_plates_in_sfv/ In the image below, you'll see a special chibi title for each of the 16 playable characters.
According to a video recorded earlier this month, these are actually character-specific "Master" titles. Though we're unsure how to unlock them at this time, we can only imagine that something saying "Chun-Li Master" or "Ryu Master" would be a reward for reaching a high level with said fighter.
If you have any information on these awesome chibi titles, please let us know in the comments. You can check out the aforementioned video after the jump.

Heres update info from eventhubs:
Street Fighter 5 season pass owners will receive a brand-new, free stage in the near future; new screenshots of upcoming challenge modes
Capcom released a ton of information on Street Fighter 5's upcoming March update just the other day. Among the release dates and new Alex information, the Capcom Unity blog entry noted a small, but very interesting detail that may have gone unnoticed.
Apparently, those who purchase Street Fighter 5's season pass won't only get each new DLC character this year and access to each of the premium costumes before the Zenny function launches. Season pass owners will also be receiving a brand new stage, for free, sometime in the near future.
Though no other details about what this stage could be were shared, this is the first we've heard of new stages being added into the game.
If you're not planning on buying the season pass, though, don't worry. Capcom is giving all Street Fighter 5 users Ryu and Chun-Li's story mode costumes free of charge on March 30th.
The story mode costumes and Alex -- Street Fighter 5's first DLC character -- will be dropping on Wednesday, March 30th. But fans will be able to enjoy some of the game's robust new features sooner than that.
On Monday, March 28th, players will see an improvement to the game's online experience. Users will be given the ability to create 8-player lobbies complete with spectator mode.
Additionally, ranked and casual matches will provide players with the new rematch option that allows the two combatants to take part in a 2/3 set, if both players agree.
We'll also be seeing the implementation of Street Fighter 5's Challenge Mode.
Included here you'll find a series of in-game tutorials ranging from beginner to advanced. We'll also be given character-specific lessons that aim to kick-start a player's journey into the world of Street Fighter 5.
But if you're anything like me, you're probably anxiously awaiting the new trial mode. This feature will also be added on Monday, and much like the Street Fighter 4 series we'll be given the opportunity to complete basic to pro combos for each character.
Finishing trials will earn you some extra Fight Money.

Alex's jazzy, New York City theme in Street Fighter 5 is a perfect update to a franchise classic
He'll be officially available tomorrow, but today's update has granted us access to Alex's Street Fighter 5 theme, and man is it pretty.
A theme very commonly heard during Third Strike play, Alex's Jazz music from New York remembers its 3S roots, but also tastefully adds in some modern spice.
Make sure you're in a place where you can comfortably and safely start dancing, and give the latest SF5 theme a listen.

In-game images of Street Fighter 5's new alternative costumes surfaced today after the March update went live.
