Gootecks and Combofiend Break Down Ibuki in Street Fighter V
With Street Fighter V having a presence at E3 this year showing off the new cinematic Story Mode and the latest addition to the roster, Ibuki, Cross Counter TV’s very own Gootecks got a chance to catch up with old friend Peter “Combofiend” Rosas to talk about what new tools this ninja has in her arsenal.
First off, Combofiend goes into some of the changes and additions to Ibuki’s specials in Street Fighter V, like her kunai inventory and her new glider, which gives her brand new ways to be tricky in the air. After that, he details the various uses of Ibuki’s V-Trigger, which summons a bomb for even more devious setups. By holding different directions when summoning the bomb, Ibuki players can change its fuse time; not knowing when the bomb will explode may result in some opponents panicking. With Ibuki players getting two bombs off V-Trigger, there is definitely opportunity for some explosive combos with correct usage of the bomb.
Ibuki can even detonate the bomb early by throwing a kunai at it, and if a bomb throw is mistimed, opponents can kick it away to avoid the blast. This quick rundown is great for those who want to know all the new tricks Ibuki has up her sleeve.

Well it gives people more FM too and there's always a good reason if people want "free" content. Most don't do story for challenges and some like unlocking harder modes. I guess I'll have to see how it works myself. I used to play arcade modes all the time for challenges back in the day with level 7. If it's just a bunch of fights a baby can beat than meh.

Arcade ladders and story modes are two different things. If you want to fight a challenging ladder, you can do survival, but people complaint that it's way too hard. Try that if you want to fight difficult ai.
People don't like to have overly difficult story modes in most cases as they want to view the actual game and you have to play multiple characters. It was funny watching that baby beat it though.

It doesn't have to be difficult, but one round and a difficulty that a baby could beat I think is to easy. I like a nice middle ground.

Yes but you get to have two difficulties. One easier one and one more difficult one. Beat it once and you get easy FM, do it twice for more. I think the difficulty gap between survival and story are too high and I'm not sure how this new difficulty would be, but story mode isn't an arcade ladder and story mode is generally easy because people want to view the story and don't want to learn multiple characters to do so.

Gootecks shows off all of Ibuki's Street Fighter 5 trials from the E3 showroom floor
We've seen a few highlights for June's Street Fighter 5 DLC character, Ibuki, but Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez was able to jump into the character's trials at E3, and nab some footage for us to check out.
Street Fighter 5's character trials offer us a bit of insight into how each fighter works, and what their combos will look like. As we watch trials 1-10, we get the feeling that Ibuki will be fairly technical in this game, and certainly flashy to watch.
Below you'll see Ibuki's eighth trial, which involves juggling an opponent off one of her V-Trigger bombs:

Capcom resets top Street Fighter 5 Ranked player's account, docks over 20,000 league points
Tool Assisted has found himself in trouble with the CapCops yet again.
His "RZR_INFILTRATION" bot had not only taken hold of first place on the ladder, but also was first to break into the Super Diamond rank. Earlier today, Tool Assisted took to Twitter to show that that spot no longer belonged to him.
The reset back to Rookie league cost the account over 20,000 league points. Since the account isn't currently banned, however, there is the chance that we will see it rise through the ranks again.

I played the bot once and its not even fun. I baited flash kick and punished over and over but then it adjusted. Wish I saved the match because it was really lame and kinda shows it needs a permanent ban. Its not about cheating with a bot but how boring it is to play against.

999 win streak on the line - Smug faces ToolAssisted in hilarious and amazing fashion in Street Fighter 5
One thing you can't deny about Smug is he puts on a great show.
His latest highlight clip is no exception, as upon gaining Diamond status in Street Fighter 5, he broke into this outstanding dance.
www.eventhubs.com/images/2016/jun/18/smugs-victory-dance/
Unfortunately, his time for celebration wouldn't last long, as he'd face ToolAssisted who came in with a 999 win streak using Guile. That's not a typo.
ToolAssisted, playing under the name RZR_Infiltration, showcased a fiercely scripted Guile.
Smug does some clever tactics, including spamming directional inputs to throw off ToolAssisted's scripting, as you can see from the gif below.

Who will prevail and who will walk away holding an L? Only The Shadow knows, or well, you can find out what happened too by watching the clip.

Capcom considered using Street Fighter 5's online leaderboards to qualify players for Capcom Pro Tour, idea may be revisited
Capcom at one point considered using Street Fighter 5's online leaderboards as one avenue to qualify players for the Capcom Pro Tour, but the idea was shot down because of the potential problems it could raise.
Street Fighter 5 is definitely better than it's predecessor at stopping online leaderboard cheaters, but issues still remain.
"I vetoed [the idea of using online leaderboards as a way to qualify players for the CPT] since I wasn't sure how it was going to work once it was out in the wild," wrote Capcom's director of digital media and eSports, Neidel "Haunts" Crisan.
"Other games have encountered cheaters which I felt could potentially compromise results," Crisan noted.
Still, Capcom hasn't completely shelved the idea, and if they're able to prevent online cheaters, it might be something worth investigating in the future — adding an extra reward into the mix for climbing the ranked leaderboards.
"Looking forward, once all the issues are ironed out I'd like to revisit this and see what we can do," Crisan stated.
"If we go down that route, some level of seasonal resetting of the leaderboards would probably be in order," concluded Haunts.

V-Trigger bomb interrupts Karin's Critical Art preventing big damage: Gootecks brings us more Ibuki footage from the E3 show floor
Gootecks was on the scene at E3 this year getting as much time with Street Fighter 5's next DLC character, Ibuki, as he could.
During this time, he managed to record several videos including a character guide, a run through of her trials, and match footage. Today, we have some more of his match videos for you to enjoy.
One of the most interesting things about Ibuki is her V-Trigger. Her bombs can be used for some very tricky set ups and can even get you out of a jam, as seen in the GIF below.

Combofiend - Actually, Street Fighter 5's eight frames of input lag was not a design choice
At this year's E3 in Los Angeles, we were able to catch up with Capcom representatives Peter "Combofiend" Rosas and Matt Dahlgren to ask them an array of questions about the current and future states of Street Fighter 5.
One of the topics we covered was the oh-so-hot eight frames of inherent input lag. Now, we recently heard Capcom Japan representative Koichi Sugiyama express that this was an intentional part of the design, but Rosas actually clarifies to the opposite.
"Actually, it's not a deliberate design choice," said Rosas when we asked why the delay was in the game. "I think that the interpretation of what Sugiyama may have said was incorrect."
Given our information from Sugiyama was not an official statement, but rather a translation from his casual conversation on a stream, it's understandable that not all the content came across exactly as intended.
With this new understanding however, we naturally move on to ask if and/or how Capcom plans to go about dealing with the delay situation. Rosas continued to elaborate on this.
"At this point in time we're aware of the [input delay], and we are looking into it... it's not a cased closed scenario. We'll keep you updated on any further developments."
Street Fighter 5 has been out since February, and so we've had quite some time to get used to it in its current form, delay and all. A sudden change as big as the one we're talking about during the Capcom Pro Tour season could possibly cause even more problems that it'd fix at the moment.
Given the nature of the issue at hand, we'd expect to see some kind of delay alteration after this current CPT season, when the game gets its first proposed yearly re-balancing update.

Ryu Follows His Fist to Your Toy Shelf with Storm Collectibles’ Upcoming Street Fighter V Figure
Storm Collectibles is launching a new line of Street Fighter V figures, and the series’ first candidate is the wandering eternal warrior Ryu; unsurprising, considering his status as Street Fighter’s brand icon.
The upcoming figure will stand 7 inches tall (1:12 scale) and feature over 30 points of articulation, allowing it to be positioned in most of his recognizable normal attacks and stances, and his classic hadouken, shoryuken and tatsumaki senpukyaku special moves. Multiple face, hand, and hadouken elements will be included.
Storm Collectibles’ Street Fighter V series is set for a worldwide release, making them easier to get than their prior Mortal Kombat line. In North America, this figure will be available directly through Bluefin Distribution, so you can expect to see Ryu available in both online stores and specialty shops. Unfortunately, the price and release date are not yet confirmed, so eager collectors are advised to keep an eye on Storm Collectibles for further information.

The Capcom Pro Tour wants more countries, more hometown heroes
In one month, the world's biggest and most watched fighting game tournament in the world will draw more than 12,000 people -- fans and competitors alike -- to the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas for the chance at glory, gold and a giant prize pool. For the first time since the Evolution Championship Series' (Evo) inception, more than 4,000 competitors will compete in the Street Fighter V tournament, the largest, and main, event.
But the money, the fame and the glory that come with being an Evo champion weren't always the pinnacle of fighting game esports. Fourteen years ago, the first Evo in 2002 was a small competition held in Los Angeles, with games including the likes of Street Fighter II Turbo, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001. And in the past 14 years, the event and the scene have certainly experienced growing pains -- for instance, adaptation to new versions of the games, change of location and more events popping up more regularly.
Enter the Capcom Pro Tour. Launched in 2014, it's a Street Fighter circuit that takes the results of the best tournaments around the world to determine who's invited to the Capcom Cup in December, with Evo's winner receiving a direct invite.
For Capcom, Evo and the Capcom Cup aren't competitors, but instead are mutually beneficial.
"[Evo has] been a longtime staple to people of the fighting game community and really helped grow the [fighting game community] over time," Capcom Director of Brand Marketing Matt Dahlgren tells ESPN. "When we set out to create the Capcom Pro Tour, we're not here to really take over the competitive scene ourselves, we're here to really strengthen our infrastructure and those that helped the FGC grow to begin with. Evo is always gonna be super prestigious, just because to be able to weed yourself through over 4,000 competitors is a huge, huge feat. And then Capcom Cup is gonna be 32 killers who are fighting for a record-breaking prize pool amount."
Unlike many other developers, such as League of Legends creator Riot Games, which started the League Championship Series in 2013 and took over the competitive scene, Capcom allows third-party events -- such as Evo and the upcoming Community Effort Orlando this Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- to reward points to Street Fighter competitors that count toward pro tour standings.
"What we're doing with the Capcom Cup and the Capcom Pro Tour as a whole was just trying to tell a better narrative," Dahlgren explains. "The fighting game community has been around, tournaments have been taking place for a long time, but nothing was really there to help tell a story and tie everything into a centralized league. Capcom Cup is the end of the [league], it's the end of this season, it's how everyone performed throughout the end of the year."
This year, the Pro Tour has changed significantly. Originally, the rankings were centralized with all regions combined. However, this year, they're split into four regions: North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Each region has its own tournaments, its own competitors and its own rankings. This revamp, Dahlgren says, is an improvement from the previous 2014/2015 renditions of the tour.
But the CPT didn't reach this point without help. In late 2012, the Capcom team hired straight from the competitive playing field with the addition of Peter "ComboFiend" Rosas. Rosas was, and still is in many ways, an extremely strong competitive and well-known player of the game. Adding Rosas to its staff allowed Capcom to have one thing it didn't have much of before: player connection.
And in 2013, the development of the tour began, with Rosas helping significantly in the process. As an associate producer for the company, his job has been to ensure the Capcom Pro Tour and its affiliate tournaments run smoothly.
"[The Capcom Pro Tour] was a collaborative effort," Rosas tells ESPN about its humble beginnings. "Matt [Dahlgren] had the initial vision of creating this worldwide league, and then it was really me who leveraged my relationship with the community as a member of the community prior to joining Capcom, to really lay the foundation for the events that would be a part of that."
Even though it now includes four different regions, Rosas hopes that the CPT will continue to expand to countries where competitors don't have nearly as much opportunity to compete.
"[The four regions are] just the start for us," he says. "What we really want to see is global representation, because there are players that are everywhere in the world, in India, Africa and some countries we've not been able to touch just yet, but we know that they have a player base there. What we want to see is global representation -- people representing for their home countries and the players who play within their region to be able to cheer for them, and have a home hero representing their country."
But Capcom's plan for expansion hasn't come without resistance. With the release of Street Fighter V in mid-February this year, a large portion of the nonprofessional community has been critical about changes from Street Fighter IV to Street Fighter V.
"What Street Fighter IV introduced was the ability to play by yourself and figure out your own tactics and not really take your opponent into account," Rosas says. "[You could] figure out sequences, because there was this thing called set play, where you could rinse-wash-repeat a sequence over, over and over that the opponent couldn't get out of. And that, in our eyes, was not Street Fighter."
In a major change from Ultra Street Fighter IV, the previous version of Street Fighter, Street Fighter V requires you to "play the opponent," as Rosas puts it. This has made the game slightly more difficult, causing you to have to work against your opponent rather than focusing primarily on your own character, combo and sequence fluency.
"So, with Street Fighter V, we wanted to take it back to that," he continues. "We thought that's something players have been longing for, or at least, the majority have. So yes, you might be reading Reddit and there's this vocal minority who are unhappy with that, but the fact of the matter is, the joy of playing Street Fighter is playing against your opponent. When Street Fighter shines is when you play someone who is really good and you out-think them and you outplay them."
But even with the changes, and some minor pushback, the game and the scene are continuing to grow. This weekend, more than 825 people will gather to compete in or watch the Street Fighter V tournament in Orlando's Wyndham Resort for CEO. And while that's just a fraction of the 4,000-plus at Evo, the summer for Street Fighter V has only just begun.

'Upcoming Street Fighter 5 characters have attacks and such... but they're not complete yet' - Combofiend talks progress on the game's new fighters
We know that Juri, Balrog and Urien are on the way to the Street Fighter 5 roster, but we recently found out that these upcoming fighters will be playable in the story mode that's set to come out this month.
In our interview with Capcom's Combofiend at E3, we tried to get an idea of what the development process for these additional characters is like.
We did see a playable version of Balrog last week, but haven't yet caught a single glimpse of Urien or Juri. Given that we're supposed to get the new story mode by the end of June, we asked Fiend just how fleshed out these new fighters are at this point.
"They have attacks and such, but in terms of their final move sets and how they work and all that, they're not complete yet," he revealed.
We don't expect to see final versions of these three fighters just yet, and the prospect of getting to see them at all is exciting for the time being. Combofiend then went on to detail the balancing process for DLC fighters in SF5.
Capcom has done a pretty impressive job of producing a balanced cast thus far, and so we inquired about the company's approach to fine tuning these characters before release.
"[The DLC characters] are being extensively tested in Japan. They're finding things, and determining whether they think they're too strong or not," said Fiend. "I'm also playing with [the DLC characters], there might be some things that I might think are too strong, and then we investigate that."
It seems that Capcom USA is more involved with testing and fine tuning these new fighters after the groundwork has been laid out.
"At the end of the day, when we feel that the character is strong and capable, but not broken or anything like that — then the character is ready for prime time," he concluded.
We eagerly await the multitude of new content on the way for SF5. As stated before we should be getting the new story mode, along with Ibuki, within the next few days.

'The game is really balanced' - Capcom doesn't foresee any Street Fighter 5 characters needing specific adjustments or tweaks
One of the main goals for Street Fighter 5's development team was and is to create a roster of characters that are all viable, and to do so without having to tweak them after initial release.
If you've played through the life of virtually any fighting game, you know that character adjustment is a staple of the genre. Sometimes initial designs are just too powerful, and this leads to more frustrated complaining than competitive excitement. (The code to play as Old Sagat in Super Turbo is ↑ ↓ ↓ ↑ jab/fierce.)
Even the more modern Street Fighter 4 saw five different iterations, each of which had a handful of nerfs and buffs to most every one of the game's characters.
The goal is not to make every fighter exactly the same, but rather to make every fighter a viable contender. We're hoping to avoid having the same three characters win every tournament, and really, SF5 hasn't disappointed in this avenue.
We asked Peter "Combofiend" Rosas at E3 if there were any specific moves or characters he as a Capcom representative is looking at tweaking, and the short of his answer was:
"No, not in particular... the game is really balanced."
This is in regards to both strong and weak SF5 cast members. Now of course the community has some pretty popular opinions on tier list rankings. Chun-Li and Ryu are widely regarded as the best, while F.A.N.G and Zangief are very consistently regarded as the worst.
Be that as it may, it's erroneous to think we've completely unpacked this game already. Even titles like Super Smash Bros. Melee are still evolving after 15 years on shelves.
There are some sources of information we can look at for the time being, and it seems that's exactly what Capcom is doing.
"When we look at our pool of online data, we notice that character win ratios are about even across the board. We look at tournament results, they seem to be fairly varied," said Fiend.
"Right now the meta is still developing, characters are still being developed, and we're watching that closely. But at this moment in time, we're pretty pleased with how the entire game is shaping up."
Talk around the marketplace changes very quickly. Recall how overpowered people were calling Guile after we first discovered his insane V-Trigger combos? Yet now many are saying he's sub-par, and players like YOMI|Dieminion are concentrating on building up other characters for tournament play.
Which mode of thought is true? Maybe neither, but Capcom's decision to revisit game balance only once every year is a refreshing take on the modern fighting game approach.
Allowing meta development to run its course allows for dedicated members of the community to really delve in and discover answers to seemingly unbeatable moves and characters.
