Capcom cites stability concerns as reason for dropping Street Fighter 5's Zenny system, sheds more light on Ibuki delay
As many know, Street Fighter 5's next DLC character was set to drop at the end of last month. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, Ibuki's release ultimately ended up being delayed.
During our talk with Capcom at E3, Director of Brand Marketing and eSports Matt Dahlgren shared with us more information concerning the unfortunate hold up, as well as their reasoning for doing away with Street Fighter 5's Zenny system.
On the subject of Zenny -- a system that would allow players to purchase in-game currency with real money and use it to unlock costumes, stages, and more -- Dahlgren told EventHubs that stability issues were the crux of its omission.
"The feature just wasn't shaping up to be as stable as we would have liked," Dahlgren said. "We decided to go with a more tried and true formula using the native PlayStation and Steam stores.
"What was most important to us was that our value proposition that we promised to our fans up front still remained exactly the same. Given the instability we had before, we just wanted to go with the safe option for a payment system."
Fortunately, this decision has been well received by the community, and Capcom is confident that this was the correct move as it helps get their in-game store up and running.
Much like the whereabouts of the Zenny system, fans were left wondering what caused the delay of May's DLC fighter. Luckily, Dahlgren was able to shed a bit more light on what happened.
According to the Capcom representative, Street Fighter 5's development team has been working tirelessly on the game's upcoming content and maintaining the high quality standards that we've seen so far. But with such a fully loaded update, they wanted to be sure that everything was in order before releasing the content.
"We would have liked to release the characters in the same timeline we said earlier," Dahlgren started. "Right now, the game is very well balanced, we have a lot of data that says the match ups are fairly equal across the board.
"We felt it was better to be conservative, and make sure that the content retains that quality standard, rather than just 'get it out the door. We think that's the better strategy in the long run."

The Kanzuki Private Beach Stage and Karin’s Summer Garb: New Street Fighter V Images Revealed
More images have surfaced–courtesy the Japanese side of the Street Fighter blog–of the upcoming Kanzuki Private Beach premium stage and Karin’s corresponding premium costume, both revealed to be available as part of the July 1st Street Fighter V update. VesperArcade has compiled these additional images and shared them via YouTube.
VesperArcade also discusses a question that has arisen regarding the Beach stage, relating to competitive play: the images show that fighters’ feet may be obscured by the seawater, leading to potential difficulties in determining range and distance.
It’s too hard to tell at this point exactly what the water effects will look like in motion, so this question will have to remain open until we see the playable result–once the update drops this Friday.

Like Mike? Like Dudley? A... Hamburger?! Capcom show off a bunch of potential costumes Balrog might've gotten in Street Fighter 5
With Balrog coming up in just a few days for release, we've been seeing quite a bit of him lately from Capcom, but this latest post sure takes the cake ... Or hamburger, as it were.
Within these costume concepts, you'll find just about everything. Capcom's own message regarding them (translated from Japanese by MajinTenshinhan) was as follows:
Today, we're making an article specialized for Balrog. He looks ruthless no matter what he's wearing! We had a ton of ideas for his costumes. We'll show you a few of them here.
The final image at the bottom right is - yes, a hamburger.
Gangster-styled and sporty clothes fit him well, too. Even comical costumes are great on him, and serious ones do just as well. What an amazing character.

Balrog is still a charge character, but has some nifty new target combos to help in the clinch - check out his Street Fighter 5 move list here
Street Fighter 5's Balrog is set to be released this Friday at midnight, and in order to prepare players for his arrival Capcom has released the boxer's official move list.
Looking at the listing, we see that Balrog remains predominantly a charge-based fighter. However, in Street Fighter 5 he was given a handful of slick target combos that will undoubtedly help players tack on damage when they don't have a charge stored.
Below you will find inputs for Balrog's V-moves, special moves, unique attacks, and more.

We're not going to say 'Sagat', but Ono's recent Facebook post involving Tiger Beer is driving us crazy
Early yesterday, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono took to Facebook for a post we find interesting on multiple levels.
Ono's somewhat melancholy message highlights him as a bit of a troubled artist, unable to express his creativity in an apt manner. He tops off his post with the following image of his trademark Blanka toy in front of two very specific beers...
Ono: I consumed much of each day in speculation without creative. It is a big source of worry for me. I could see various matters when I leave Japan. It is thought to have been close to time that may change my life.
Well now ... Let's have a drink of beer with my best friend Blanka ;D I'll be going to Taipei from Singapore in tomorrow!
However... I want to focus on creative and produce of SF. Cheers!
You may or may not have noticed the "Tiger" brand beers behind Blanka, and that may or may not have led you to start thinking about a certain one-eyed Muay Thai fighter who throws Tiger Shots and isn't currently in Street Fighter 5.
Given Ono's eccentric and trolling nature, it's always extremely hard to pick out from his posts what's a hint and what isn't.

Scheduled maintenance will shut Street Fighter 5 servers down for 10 hours on Thursday, June 30th
According to a recent post on the Street Fighter Server Twitter, the game's servers will be down for no less than 10 hours on this coming Thursday.
A follow up tweet clarifies, "During this time online modes cannot be used. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."
Seeing as the download is eight gigabytes worth of new content, there are likely a lot of "I's" to dot and "T's" to cross. In the past there have been instances where server down time has been shorter than the projected span, so we'll see if Capcom uses the full 10 hours or not.

Matt Dahlgren - One of our top priorities right now is getting fans the single player story mode content they’ve been waiting for
Street Fighter 5's biggest update since its initial launch is right around the corner, and the community is anxiously waiting to get their hands on new characters, stages and game modes.
At E3, we spoke with Capcom representatives Peter "Combofiend" Rosas and Matt Dahlgren to get an idea of exactly what to expect with this massive update. Dahlgren elaborated a bit on the game's upcoming mode.
They discussed a range of components, including why SF5 is set where it is on the story timeline, and whether or not we'll see similar updates in the game's future.
"This is a service that's going to grow over time, and we will listen to our fans and monitor the feedback from that, and then determine what content to build next based off of fan feedback."
Story Timeline
We know that Street Fighter 5's story covers the events between SF4 and SF3, and so we inquired as to why the team decided to focus on this point in the timeline.
"I think the appeal of the Shadaloo organization is very, very strong, and then we told a bit of that story with Street Fighter 4 but felt like there was more that was going to be very interesting for our fans," explained Dahlgren. "It was just an interesting time period, we have a very good concept around the story, and we think our fans are going to love it."
Dalhgren went on to add that "[T]his is the most ambitious story mode we've created in Street Fighter history."
Unannounced Content?
Yoshinori Ono has hinted at more modes and features for the game in the future. When we asked Dahlgren if he could expand on any of this, he responded with:
"We can't give specifics at this point, but our promise of an ever evolving service over time still is true. Our top priority right now is getting out the Cinematic Story Mode, getting our fans the single player content we know they really want.
From there on, then we'll map out what our next big upgrade is going to be, and there should be news on that in the very near future as to how we're going to proceed with the franchise."
An Option to Purchase Colors?
Having a handful of character colors locked behind the incredibly steep Hard Survival Mode wall has been a point of grief for many players. One proposed alteration has been for Capcom to offer these same colors for purchase.
We asked Combofiend if there ever be a buying option for Survival Mode colors, to which he responded, "Just you wait." Not a guarantee by any means, but this response leads us to believe Capcom is at least entertaining this idea.

'The Destroyer of Rules'... check out Balrog's Street Fighter 5 trading card
We're just two days away from getting our hands on Balrog in Street Fighter 5, and while we wait we're eagerly grabbing at any and all information we can get on him.
His SF5 trading card is now out, and it recalls the character's appearances in past titles as well as reveals his new nickname, "The Destroyer of Rules", which is hilarious.
PlayStation 4 users in North America can download the latest SF5 patch right now to avoid having to do so when the update goes live.

One of the titles that’s a part of this sale is Capcom’s Street Fighter V.
Street Fighter V is now available for purchase for only $40.19 which is 33% off the game’s $59.99 retail price. In addition to this, the Deluxe Edition of the game that comes with this year’s Season Pass is also subject to the same 33% discount, making its final cost $60.29, down from $89.99.

Classic costume, ninja costume, schoolgirl clothes and even capes - Capcom reveals their Ibuki concept designs for Street Fighter 5
Tomorrow, we'll finally get to try out Ibuki in Street Fighter 5, and I know that at least I'm excited for it.
In anticipation, you can get a look at all of the different designs Capcom were considering for Ibuki, with the notation that some of these might actually show up in the future, if we're lucky. Below, you'll find a portion of Capcom's original post on the Japanese CFN website, translated by MajinTenshinhan.
This time, we're doing an article focusing on Ibuki.
Her two main focus points are that she's a schoolgirl, but also a serious ninja. Trying to merge those two aspects of her life, we ended up with the current look for her.
Capcom's post continued, stating the following:
We came up with some really charming costumes during the design process.
It would be nice if we could revive them somehow, maybe as alternate costumes in the future?
What do you think about Ibuki's various designs?

'She forces her opponent to respect her pressure the instant she drops the bomb' - Ibuki's SF5 Character Introduction video released by Capcom
Tomorrow, we're finally going to get our hands on Street Fighter 3's main ninja girl, Ibuki, in Street Fighter 5.
Though we got our first look at her a month ago, there's been so much information about her flying around left and right, that I wouldn't be able to blame you if you missed some of it.
Thankfully, Capcom have got you covered. The latest video in their Character Introduction series was just released, and it deals with who is at least my favorite schoolgirl in the Street Fighter series.
Get some insight into Ibuki's personality, story, but most importantly, her Street Fighter 5 gameplay and how to utilize her best with this video from the Capcom Fighters YouTube channel.

Brief, in-game clips of Urien and Juri shown in new Street Fighter 5 story expansion footage
In light of the newly released Street Fighter 5 story expansion launch trailer, IGN has uploaded part 2 of their video series in which they play a Street Fighter drinking game and attempt to retell what they've seen.
This video features new footage of the story expansion, while giving us another quick look at Juri and Urien in action. For the first time, we get to see what both characters look like in an actual match with the HUD visible.
Footage of Juri begins at around 1:07 in the video, and Urien's can be found beginning at 1:26. Both clips are quick, but we can at least see a little of what they look like in-game, as well as their V-Gauge.

Juri and Urien Street Fighter 5 alternate costumes discovered; more costumes and footage of the new characters added
It appears as though alternate costumes for Street Fighter 5's upcoming DLC characters, Urien and Juri, may have just been discovered.
A-Rival has been poking around the game's files on PC and managed to dig up character models for both characters sporting new costumes. We see story mode and premium costumes for Juri and Urien, and the latter's story outfit can actually be seen in-game.
Additionally, footage of Juri's Critical Art, her move list, general gameplay footage, and the character select screen showing both costumes for her and Urien have been added to our story.

Updated: Urien and Juri's cinematic story mode scenes and move lists added, Street Fighter 5's 1.04 update currently available for download
The next Street Fighter 5 update, version 1.04, is currently available for download on PlayStation 4 here in the United States.
This patch comes in at an 8.38 GB file size, and is set to add playable characters Balrog and Ibuki, new costumes, stages, and more. It should be noted that today's download is separate from the "general story DLC" update we saw yesterday.
Officially, players will be able to get their hands on the new content at midnight PDT tonight. With that in mind, this means that the download is probably just anticipatory.
We have added Juri and Urien's cinematic story mode scenes and in-game move lists from the story expansion.

It's a mixed bag to me. They've censored a lot of stuff and Juri just now, but yes they are fuller in build. I don't think it means sexier per se. They keep backing off and then making sexy alts. It was already in SF4 with things like Poison and you already had sexy shots in that game.
I can mod things however I want at this point so it's whatever.
I am about to watch the story now and I'll report back.

The censorship seems arbitrary tbh. They take somethings out but then add some things in. Juri's costume was censored, but they gave the girls swimsuits. I just finished the story mode and honestly it was okay. Nothing stellar, but if you're a long time SF fan you'll possibly enjoy it.
