Capcom Cup gets a shout out on ESPN, will be broadcast on ESPN2 When EVO 2016 was featured on ESPN2, it was a major mile marker and indication of the fighting game community's transition toward eSports. It seems as though things went well enough in their first venture, because ESPN2 will be showing Capcom Cup this coming Sunday. SoCal's Aaron "Kapwan" Smith captured some quick footage on ESPN: If ESPN2 is showing Capcom Cup on Sunday that will mean it will not be live coverage as the event is slated to play out Today & Tomorrow, that just means everyone in attendance will have a chance to go home and watch along with the rest of the world. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capcom Cup 2016 live stream ft. While RZR|Infiltration has had a banner year in the game so far, he's been slowing down a bit towards the end, and some other player could potentially dethrone him as the current king or queen of Street Fighter 5. Participating in this 32-person bracket are RZR|Infiltration, Tokido, Qanba|Xiao Hai, Liquid|NuckleDu, RZR|Fuudo, MJS|Haitani, ZW|GamerBee, BX3|Phenom, MOV, EG|Justin Wong, EG|Momochi, BST|Daigo, RZR|Xian, Mago, GGP|Kazunoko, HM|Eita, RB|Luffy, EG|K-Brad, FOX|Julio, HORI|Sako, PxP|Problem X, F3|Brolynho, Ryan Hart, PG|Filipino Champ, EG|Ricki Ortiz, YouDeal|Yukadon, CO|Go1, DNL|Chris Tatarian, MD|MisterCrimson, HuomaoTV|HumanBomb, WFX|XSK Samurai and GAM|DR Ray. Akuma announced for Street Fighter 5; releases December 20th - five other silhouettes for season 2 shown Akuma is the first season 2 DLC character for Street Fighter 5, and he was revealed today at the PlayStation Experience. He's sporting a new hair style, and increased muscle mass, despite this he possesses quick footwork and devastating combos. Capcom is hyping him heavily as an offensive juggernaut. Also, five other shadowy silhouettes were shown for season 2. Akuma's moves V-Skill Rakan Akuma strikes a defensive stance and similar to Ryu’s Mind’s Eye, can parry an incoming attack. He can follow-up the move with an upward kick or a long reaching palm strike. V-Trigger: Dohatsu Shoten Akuma powers up and envelops his body with ki to enter Dohatsu Shoten mode. In this mode, his Gohadokens are more powerful, now able to travel full-screen and he can unleash two in the air even while jumping backwards. Additionally, when he lands his Goshoryuken attack, he follows-up and violently drives his opponents into the ground. Critical Art: Sekia Koretsuha Akuma channels an incredible amount of ki into his palm and drives it into the ground, striking the opponent with an exploding pillar of fierce energy. Critical Art: Shun Goku Satsu Only accessible while in Dohatsu Shoten mode, Akuma’s most powerful attack returns. He glides towards the opponent and grabs them, resulting in a series of devastating strikes in the blink of an eye. Avaliable: 12.20.16 Source: eventhubs

Chun-Li's instant air lightning legs nerfed in PlayStation Experience build of Street Fighter 5
Chun-Li's instant air lightning legs have been nerfed in PlayStation Experience build of Street Fighter 5.
This move is now negative on block, resulting in a counter hit for Chun-Li if she presses a button after it's blocked.
When executed correctly, in the current build of SF5, this move was plus on block.
The move is said to be +3 on hit now and -2 on block.
You can find footage below of the move in action, where the person speaking in the video also says the move is also slower than it used to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tons of changes being reported for Street Fighter 5's PSX build, Capcom not saying if things are final
Nerfing Chun-Li's instant air lightning legs isn't the only change that has been reported for Street Fighter 5.
In fact, numerous changes are being mentioned by the FGC in attendance at this year's PlayStation Experience.
When asked, Capcom would not reveal if these changes are final or not, so take the following list as you will.
Also, keep in mind, many of these reports are given without the luxury of extensive testing.
There are a ton of changes we simply don't know about yet, so some alterations may not make sense in a vacuum.
General notes
• Non-meter wake up dragon punches now lose to meaty attacks across the board. Apparently only EX DPs are good reversals now. (Not tested with all characters, so could be exceptions)
• All jab anti air moves appear to be unaffected, but some claim they're worse. (Conflicting reports)
• Frame advantage and positions are worse after throws, you don't get as much/any(?) pressure from midscreen throws anymore.
Alex
• Can combo Toward + HP, Standing Medium Punch xx Light Flash Chop. Apparently Toward + HP (Lariat) is +6 now.
• Can combo Crouching Light Punch into LP Chop. cr.LK, cr.Lp xx LP Chop works!
Balrog
• Upper Screw is a DP motion now.
• Still no invincible reversal even when using EX meter.
• Lower damage on EX rush.
• Damage seems overall the same.
Cammy
• V-Reversal doesn't knockdown anymore.
• Standing Light Kick still looks like it's +1, instant tick throw still there.
• All dive kicks looked nerfed on block except V-Trigger version.
Chun-Li
• Can cancel specials into V-Trigger now as well.
• Can mash/piano input for Lightning Legs now, or still use the QCF + K command. Move properties same regardless of input, mash or motion.
• Instant Air Lightning Legs were nerfed.
• Fireball has a tad more recovery.
• Can cancel crouching light kick into lightning legs. Crouching Light Kick 2x, into Legs into V-Trigger Cancel works and then can continue combo from there.
• Standing Light Kick is now 3 frames, was 4 before, but apparently in AA situations, it has 5 frames of start up? (Conflicting reports)
Dhalsim
• Crouching Medium Punch has better horizontal hitbox can hit chars further away.
• Stand Heavy Punch is now a crush counter, beware fireball throwers.
• Hitstun on limbs is now plus on hit, so it means you will have to respect his far limbs a lot more.
• Previously, Dhalsim's far reaching limbs were minus or 0 on hit, so you didn't have to respect him after being hit, now it's different.
• Yoga Anvil (Back + Heavy Punch) reduced in startup from 12 frames to 10. No more brainless jumping in.
• Back + Medium Punch went from 8 frame startup to 6 frames now.
• Hearing V-Skill has much faster startup, and float jab has more hit and blockstun so you can't just hit him out of it.
• Standing Light Kick went from 5 frames to 4 frame startup. Dhalsim can punish easier now with it.
• Standing Heavy Punch feels way faster!
• Slide Trigger buffed, flame doesnt go away anymore.
• Some of his far reaching limbs can be cancelled into super. Far range st.HP crush counter xx Super is a combo.
• Air Heavy Punch is slower.
• Down-Back + Medium kick is a real low which is ideal for midrange foosties.
• People overall seem pretty hyped about how good Dhalsim can be in this version right now.
F.A.N.G
• In V-Trigger special moves don't require charge time.
Karin
• Standing Light Kick is +1 on block.
• V-Reversal sends them full screen.
• Has air target combo.
• Jab reset still there, but no longer gets 50/50 mixup.
M. Bison
• Standing Light Kick is 3 frames now.
• V-Trigger Light Scissors are faster.
• Target combo sped up but only links to Standing Light Kick.
Necalli
• Does less damage on some combos.
R. Mika
• No more invisible wall for R. Mika with Toward + Medium Punch (Irish Whip). Needs to be in the corner to get wall bounce now. Can't change direction with Toward + Medium Punch anymore.
Ryu
• Startup for some normals is slowed down, but in V-Trigger his frame data is actually better.
Zangief
• Lariat works farther out vs. crouching opponents. Including cr.LP 2x, st.LK, xx Lariat, no backroll after it.

Colors for new holiday and Red Bull costumes shown off at PlayStation Experience 2016, Easter egg versions We have John 'Velociraptor' Guerrero and Steven 'DreamKing' Chavez out at PlayStation Experience 2016 and he was able to provide us with photos and videos of the special holiday costumes and colors of each costume for Street Fighter 5. The photos are for the Easter egg versions of the holiday outfits, sans Akuma's. The Street Fighter 5 characters are definitely in the holiday spirit. Of course, we also have footage of Ryu and Chun Li's Red Bull colors at the character select screen too. Source: eventhubs

Remaining five characters introduced in season 2 of Street Fighter 5 will be brand new to the universe
It was announced today on stage during Capcom Cup 2016 that outside of Akuma, the other five season 2 characters coming to Street Fighter 5 would be brand new to the universe.
"Akuma is only the start of season 2," Street Fighter 5's director, Takayuki Nakayama, said through a translator.
"The other 5 characters will be brand new to the Street Fighter universe," he added.
Right now there are 5 silhouettes shown with Akuma, who these remaining characters will be is anyone's guess. Street Fighter 5's season pass is already up for sale on the PlayStation Store for $29.99.
Each 2017 character comes with a Premium Battle costume with colors 3-10 unlocked, and the remaining fighters will be released throughout the year.

Don't forget to collect your 6,100 Fight Money during all the hype - This is how to complete 'Respectful Spectating' and other missions It's easy to forget to collect your weekly fight money from Street Fighter 5's mission mode. This week, 6,100 fight money is ripe for the taking. Like the previous weeks, three out of the four challenges are self explanatory and straight forward, while the 5,000 FM challenge is a cryptic one. This week's mysterious challenge is called "Respectful Spectating" and it involves one of the background NPCs once more. Let's cover how it's done. Respectful Spectating: Despite the name, this mission doesn't actually involve the spectating mode of the game. Thanks to ElChakotay Andrich, we were able to figure out how to complete this challenge! Enter the Underground Arena stage in versus mode or an online mode. Take note of the bear in the background. All you have to do is score a few knockdowns. Eventually, the bear will fall down. Complete the match and the 5,000 FM is yours. www.eventhubs.com/images/2016/dec/04/respectful-spectating/Perform a combo 10 time(s): Perform 10 combos in either Ranked, Casual, or Battle Lounge matches and you'll receive 100 Fight Money. This one is due by the end of the day, so be sure to snag those easy 100 FM while you can. Get a KO with an EX move 10 time(s): You'll need to KO your your opponent 10 times with an EX move in Ranked, Casual, or Battle Lounge matches. Do so, and you will receive 500 FM for your troubles. Play Survival Mode: This one is an easy 500 FM. Simply start up a character's survival mode in single player. You don't even have to complete a single match to earn your reward. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capcom outlines what their direction on Street Fighter 5 Season 2 changes will be like Combofiend has posted on Capcom Unity what direction Capcom plans on taking Street Fighter 5 with their Season 2 changes. While he doesn't go into great detail about what these changes are, he gives us a good idea of what type direction they want to take with Season 2 changes. Combofiend notes that they want to make each character feel more distinct rather than making every game play experience feel the same with one player being the attacker and one player being the defender. "This led players, both the attacker and the one being attacked, to have a similar experience regardless of which characters were being used." It is explained that by reducing the uniform aspects of each character, this could allow players to better convey their preferred play style. "We think that by reducing each character’s similarities, we can allow players to fully express themselves through their favorite characters." Capcom will focus on three highlighted areas to best reach this goal. Season 2 changes • Recovery After Successful Throws • Strong Anti-Air Light Attacks • Invincible Reversal Reliance Combofiend mentions that making each character feel unique so that players may better showcase their play styles has been a trend since Street Fighter 2. "From every iteration of Street Fighter since Street Fighter II, it’s been through the uniqueness of each character, that players from all over the world have been able to express themselves with their favorite character. It’s also through this uniqueness that we can see varying styles, even among the same characters." In addition to the three above areas that Capcom is looking at, they also intend to adjust many other factors within the game. It seems they are looking towards making changes to the advantage and disadvantage states of many on hit and block attacks, character vitality and stun values, and hitbox and hurtbox sizes. They also intend to change other unlisted factors. We should expect a more detailed 2017 season changelog post due in the coming weeks. Source: eventhubs

Watch the R. Mika invisible wall nerf in action in PSX build of Street Fighter 5
Yesterday we posted a ton of changes to Street Fighter 5 for the PSX build of the game.
One of the things people took the most notice of was R. Mika no longer being able to smack the opponent into an invisible wall by doing a backdash after doing her Irish Whip grab (Toward or Backwards + MP).
The footage shows this still works just fine if the opponent hits one of the corners, but it no longer bounces midscreen.
We've captured footage of how the move works in this build of Street Fighter 5.

I like some of the changes as Mika's wall bounce and Chun's divekick were just nonsense. However many of these changes seem to be making the game more homogenized.

White life regeneration significantly slowed down in Street Fighter 5 Season 2
White life regeneration appears to have been greatly slowed down for Street Fighter 5 Season 2. This will have a large impact on Street Fighter 5's meta game.
This will most likely greatly benefit Dhalsim considering his V-Trigger causes the opponent's life to convert into white life.
A slower regeneration rate will add additional pressure to the opponent and make it more likely for the opponent to get hit before they are able to fully recover their life.
Who knows if this is intended to encourage more offensive play or more defensive play.
We have a video ready to show you the rate of regeneration.

Here is Akuma's nostalgia costume 'Easter Egg' variation and his generic win quotes in Street Fighter 5 We just got back from the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim where Street Fighter 5's first season 2 fighter, Akuma, was playable on the show floor. The master of the Satsui No Hado came equipped with four different costume options in the PSX build: default, story, premium battle, and the first nostalgia costume we've seen in-game. Many of Street Fighter 5's recent DLC costumes have had special "Easter egg" variations -- small changes, often adding/subtracting some article of clothing, that can be accessed by holding all three punches, light kick, and up before a match starts. To our surprise, Akuma's nostalgia costume has one as well. Thanks to BurnoutFighter, and a handful of photos we managed to capture ourselves, we have Akuma's Easter egg variation for you here today. Not only that, but Velociraptor and I snapped photos of Akuma's generic win quotes. Akuma's generic win quotes Source: eventhubs

First image of Akuma's character-specific Street Fighter 5 story mode surfaces online, Gen makes an appearance Street Fighter 5 is receiving its next DLC fighter on December 20th; Akuma is coming and he packs a devastating punch. We've seen his official trailer and lots of gameplay footage from the PlayStation Experience 2016 show floor, but there's still more to behold. Japanese gaming website GamerNE recently published an article that features a slew of screenshots showing Akuma in action as well as information on his moves. However, one screenshot among the rest features the first look at Akuma's character-specific story mode. The story scene illustrated by Bengus shows Akuma standing with his back to Gen -- a character who hasn't made his return in Street Fighter 5 just yet. Gen's appearance in Akuma's Street Fighter 5 story mode doesn't necessarily mean that he will return as a playable character anytime soon, but it's definitely interesting. We'll have to wait until the 20th to see how Akuma's full story unfolds. Source: eventhubs

UltraDavid and Vicious Give Capcom Stern Criticism Leading Up to Street Fighter V Season 2, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite It is no secret that not only did Capcom handle the launch of Street Fighter V improperly, but that Capcom also knows they did. Thus, with the Capcom Pro Tour season coming to a close, when Michael Martin asked UltraDavid and Vicious about their opinions of Capcom’s year, it should come as no shock that the duo wouldn’t mince words. UltraDavid called the release “doodoo,” and blasted Capcom for not having put the emphasis on the general, casual audience as much as they should have. He lambasted the choice of releasing the game without a proper story mode, arcade mode, or even interesting costumes and stages. He also criticized them for design choices; even in versus play, including not letting the second player be able to choose on his own to go back to the character select at the end of a game. Vicious went on to criticize the Capcom Pro Tour, and the organization of the points system for the season. They also suggest how the game can build new players, and how Capcom should handle the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. esports.yahoo.com/ultradavid-street-fighter-v-worst-000534505.htmlSource: shoryuken

In terms of season 2. I don't mind new characters. I just hope the gameplay isn't dumb.

Capcom Cup Viewership Ratings on ESPN2 Only 87,000, DotEsports Analyzes Competitors
Capcom Cup was about as high-profile as you can get for fighting games. Between the massive prize pot, a year’s worth of accumulated hype, and an airing on ESPN2, there aren’t many tournaments who can boast the same accomplishments. That said: this success doesn’t necessarily correlate directly to viewership.
As DotEsports points out in their writeup, Capcom Cup listed as garnering a total of 87,000 viewers that night on ESPN2. This is lower than EVO 2016, which scored over 200,000 viewers, but we have some things to keep in mind when looking at this data. They point out that Capcom Cup was competing that night with heavy hitters such as AMC’s The Walking Dead (10 Million viewers) and NFL’s Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers (18 Million viewers). This is a stark contrast to Evo 2016’s biggest TV competitior, which was ABC’s Match Game (5.8 Million viewers).
They also go over key demographics for Capcom Cup, which the tournament did manage to reach in a satisfying manner. We’re left with the impression that ESPN was happy with these ratings, from their own statements: “[The Capcom Cup] met our strategic objectives to experiment with new formats and programming and engage new fans,” adding that they “will continue to look to deliver championship events that meet those objectives.”

New PC hack makes you never lose LP in Street Fighter 5, you should probably avoid using it A new PC hack for Street Fighter 5 has been developed by X-Kira. Known for finding quite a few of the game's secrets by digging around in the files, the PC-savvy player found on a way to never lose LP in ranked matches. Basically, this hack makes it so that the match results don't reach reach the game's servers when you take a loss. In fact, the match lost won't show up in your battle log at all, however, the opponent still receives points for winning and the match can be found in their log. www.eventhubs.com/images/2016/dec/12/new-pc-hack-makes-you-never-lose-lp-street-fighter-5/Based on the video description's loose translation, it appears as though X-Kira isn't looking to release this hack in any way, nor use it for his own good. Instead, this was created for research purposes, showing that fraud in this game does indeed exist and to raise awareness. As enticing as this hack may seem, it is probably in everyone's best interest to steer clear if a download link should ever surface. Capcom has made it a point to crack down on those who attempt to use cheats in order to manipulate the system, serving hard bans to boosters and the like. Those who take advantage of a hack like this will surely face the same fate. Source: eventhubs
