I'll reserve final judgement when she's on camera, but right off the bat the original Supergirl was better imo. The one in the 80's movie was better, although that movie was kind of cheesy. It had a charm to it. The one from Smallville was hot too.

They chose Marley from Glee? I hope this isn't a musical.

There are much better women for that part. My guess is they catered it to the CBS crowd as to not intimidate the older women watching that network. Probably didn't want the feminists lashing out.

I the pilot and it ended up better than I thought. At first I was "meh" as I don't watch modern tv much at all (especially not live action). It has a bit of the campy feel as expected but the pacing was soild and she looked better in the show than she did in that photograph, at least in uniform. They changed Jimmy but it works for modern live action TV.
There is a bit of an unexpected twist in there in regards to her sister. The fight scenes were OK. I wasn't sure if her hitting skills are supposed to show that she's inexperienced or if she doesn't really know how to hit. Laura Vandervoort was a trained martial artist so she was much more believable in this regard. I feel like she could polish up in this area for sure. Doesn't seem like she's even hitting them, they're "girl punches" if you know what I mean.

Aaaaaand we knew this was coming. Can't a show stand on its own? ========== news.yahoo.com/5-shows-watch-next-season-one-definitely-skip-171134108.htmlThe days of all-white casts with a strong male lead, doting housewife, and two darling children may be behind the major TV networks as more diverse casts, LGBT characters, and hilarious and strong female characters have been increasingly introduced over the past few years. A slate of new series debuting in the coming months promise to keep pushing the boundaries. There are some standouts that we’re looking forward to after getting sneak peeks at May up-fronts—events where each major network promotes its new roster to advertisers and media.
Americans watch an average of five hours of TV every day. Although scripted dramas and sitcoms are not entirely true to life—especially when supernatural powers come into play—the added representation of strong female characters and diversity in casting, not to mention a little bit of a history lesson, make several new series worth taking up space on your DVR.
Check out the new shows we’re most excited for—and one we’re not too happy about.
It’s Not a Bird or a Plane: It’s a Woman!
Female superheroes may not be taking over the big screen anytime soon, but one is getting her own television series. D.C. Comics’ Supergirl begins to embrace her powers in the eponymous CBS series while beginning a high-powered job at a media company. The character, portrayed by Melissa Benoist, is a bit goofy and nervous, but her strength is unmatched when it comes time to save her sister and protect her home, dubbed National City.
New Faces in Primetime
Best known for his role on Community, Ken Jeong (who happens to be real M.D.) plays a doctor struggling to juggle career and family on Dr. Ken. The premise is nothing viewers haven’t seen before, but this is only the second series in decades—the other being Eddie Huang’s Fresh Off the Boat—to feature a predominantly Asian American cast. Asian actors make up just 6 percent of major characters on TV shows, according to numbers compiled by Fusion, which tallied 800 roles across 100 different shows. Although that percentage falls in line with the most recent census numbers, in which Asian Americans represent about 5 percent of the population, the number continues to rise each year, increasing 22 times in the past 50 years.
Saving Lives and Taking Names
Before you write off Heartbreaker as just another medical series, watch actor Melissa George shut down male coworkers when they tease her about her hobbies: “I like long walks on the beach, hot bubble baths, and the sound of cracking a patient’s chest open like a lobster.” This NBC drama is based on the real-life career of Kathy Magliato, a female heart surgeon in a male-dominated field. If the trailer is any evidence, Heartbreaker will show tough female characters that are kicking butt in STEM fields without relying on their male peers.
A History Lesson in Race and Politics
Based on the best-selling nonfiction book of the same title, HBO’s six-part miniseries Show Me a Hero depicts Yonkers, New York, in the 1980s as white residents protest the city’s attempt to build low-income housing in a middle-class neighborhood. Written by David Simon—known for his true-to-life portrayals like crime drama The Wire—this series promises to shed light on backdoor politics and decades of racial segregation with an all-star cast, including Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, and Winona Ryder.
Fierce and Feminine
Adding to her ever-growing repertoire, Shonda Rhimes is at it again with The Catch. In Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder, Rhimes writes complex female characters that are strong, yet vulnerable enough to have a good cry from time to time. Mireille Enos plays fraud investigator Alice Martin in this edge-of-your-seat thriller.
Skip This One: A Musical Comedy About Changing Your Life for a Man
After bumping into her schoolgirl crush 10 years after he dumped her, Becca Bunch (played by Rachel Bloom) decides to ditch her swanky apartment and law-firm job to move across the country in hopes of dating him. The show’s title alone, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, is cringeworthy. This show plays on stereotypes of obsessed women who would give up anything for a guy—and in this case, a guy who happens to be in a relationship. Hoping to cash in where Glee left off after it wrapped this year (minus the social relevance), the show turns Becca’s obsession into a sassy sing-along.

Lol you should just give it a try. There are 9 episodes now and a tenth is coming soon. Laura Vandervoort who played Supergirl in Smallville is showing up soon too.
The show has gotten better and better as it has gone on. She got some h2h training in the show to emphasize her skill later on. Superman has very little focus so she's doing her own thing. There are some spoilers I won't ruin for you. It has a good cast too.
The majority of comic book fans are male so they can't make it too girly. It is on TV so they have to make it more mainstream so there is that.

It is on TV so they have to make it more mainstream so there is that. It really does look like Devil Wears Prada with superheroes... Laura Vandervoot isn't playing a relative is she? Is that just a cameo like Dean Cain? What's the whole Supergirl name thing about? I think I can remember some people kicking up a fuss about it being Supergirl and not Superwoman. I know the Martian Manhunter is in it and I admit, that almost got me to watch it. It just feels very watered down, that's my only issue with it. I have zero interest in The Flash but it doesn't look or feel watered down and at first Arrow was watered down but it ended up getting really good towards the end of Season 1. Agents of Shield was the same and then... Daredevil came out and that sorta changed Comic Book TV for me. You're judging the show without even watching it though. It would only take a small amount of time to watch a few episodes and see for yourself. To be honest most modern era tv has that feel. It just seems like you're wanting to dislike it. If you're going to hate it, you'll just hate the show no matter what. Nothing I can say will change that. No need to ask me what I think about it.

The only thing I can say is see for yourself.

How much time does she spend as Supergirl in the episodes after the pilot? Are her friends annoying?k The answer to these questions will help me decide. Varies from episode to episode but you get some of both. The supporting cast is good and of course you have the love interest too.

There's always a love interest but what annoys me in shows that tend to run for 22+ episodes is that the relationship is very start stop and something always gets in the way, is it like that in Supergirl? Is the love interest Jimmy Olsen? Yep, always a love interest, even in the comics. They always build up to them and this show seems to have a triangle or four way of sorts.

I've been looking up clips, do you think they should of given Supergirl the Smallville treatment and reduced her powers? Sometimes the flying looks good for TV and then other times it looks god awful, probably would've been easier and cheaper just to make her run quick. This is one question I've had for a while but do they make a big deal out of her being called "Supergirl"? Instead of "Superwoman"? I can't go and watch the earlier episodes but I'll be sure to check it out when it returns over here which should be around the same time it's back for you. Don't they have it on Netflix or Hulu? I don't mind the power levels. Nice to not see them depower them all of the time. There are other heroes too who would seem odd without their power set. They're already depowered enough on tv and movies compared to the comics. Just check it out and let me know what you think.

It doesn't make any sense that with all these evil Kryptonians the don't stomp Kara and the DEA in two secs. I like it, another good series from Greg Berlanti. It started off weak tbh, but it got better overtime. I hear they might crossover with the Flash soon.
I'm watching more TV now then I've ever done so. Lot's of good shows. Have you seen Daredevil on Netflix?

They may not even want Kara dead. I think it has to get going like all shows. I haven't gotten too heavy into tv watching but I guess you're back on board. I'm not a massive tv watcher but I do have my 1 or 2 shows I watch. I do everything on PC though for convenience.

They're definetly not comicbook strong or even movie verse strong. Yeah, they could have killed Kara but they were holding back as shown in ep.9.
Yeah, I'm back on board in the sense that I enjoy TV again. Back in the 90's we had alot of sitcoms: MArtin, Waynes Bros, Fresh Prince. These days we have alot of stuff coming out:

They were definitely strong enough to give her a fight early on. Well we always have things coming out; the question is does it appeal to you overall. Ah, the 90's.
