I think MK works as a "fun game" but SF has better mechanics.

SF easily. MK is more casual and tends to play around with mechanics, changing them every games.

SF easily. MK is more casual and tends to play around with mechanics, changing them every games. Yea the people who judged it judged on more superficial things. The game has to play well as a fighter. MK is a fun game but it has a lot of issues as a competitive game. People try to say it's better than VF because of the "fun" characters. These are the same people who like crappy popular movies.

Fun is a poor argument anyway because you could just as easily say a smart and more balance game is more fun. Plus good gameplay gives games much more replay value.

"Fun" is a poor argument because it's subjective and it's a lot like saying something is good because it's popular. It has no merit. Balance doesn't make a game inherently boring and I've seen people make that dumb argument as well "broken games are more fun". Sure some people like Marvel silliness but some of us want a honest and balanced game. A well made game with good balance is better competitively in the long run. Would basketball do well if one team had 3 players and the other got 7? It would suck.

I find that people just use reason rationalize whatever they like. The broken games are more fun argument is a testament to that kind of self serving thinking.

I can't figure out why a game would be inherently bad because it's balanced. That's what I liked about that thread at the Virtua Fighter site. They pointed out how dumb that thinking was when they were talking about these kind of games.

I never liked the gameplay of MK. I always chose SF.
I haven't played anything recent though. Neither SF nor MK.

SF for me. not really fond of MK series. I'm bad at fighting games and probably a bad judge too, but mk just feels wooden to me.

And I agree with it being stiff! but MKX looks better pretty much like injustice which is good. I think it's time to redeem itself from this "stiff" thing.
I mean I played the older version of MK before, the ones the looks like a cut out sprite of real people. first time I see it, it's not so convincing, maybe it is for other people, different people likes different things. but for me, it looks like a logs hitting each other. some people probably loved it because they loved the first title of the series as a kid, they see it way more cooler back then, how they imagined it. like how I see zelda series, I played the very first game and loved it, now my judgement are biased when it comes to every zelda title. it surely is good, but I'm probably overrating it.

The older games were fast and fun but balance wise they were bad. The newer MK games are better competitively but MK was never balanced. It just has a different feel than SF but it's definitely more casual friendly and has more single player content.

I like the juggling combos in the newer ones. In the newer MK's? I always thought they had a strong juggling emphasis before all of the auto combo stuff they started doing. That said those games were also more broken.

Sf seems to be getting worst since the ono era. While mk is still casual, it's improving alot.

MK has had it's crappy years too. Capcom has to improve but I feel they're doing the right things and their gameplay is definitely better (which is what I care about the most). MK is casual so they can get away with more but I wouldn't want SF or Kof becoming like them.

I dunno about them doing the right things unless you mean not scrubifying their games with SF5 versus SF4. KOF is awesome and in general better than SF, and MK does casual non-gameplay related content [Story, mini-games, etc] better than SF. I feel like the things SF was good at has declined over the years [Gameplay and Characters], 5 may change that. But, 4 is still fresh on my mind.

Shame not very many people give Kof much of a chance if at all. SF has to make money and they like to dumb stuff down. It seems they're trying to do this better. I like having content but I like a solid game. MK's games all have had loads of bs so I'm not so fond of them outside of a "fun" type of way. Mechanically they are far more flawed. It seems SF5 is trying to go back to basics while still keeping new people in mind. Even Kof made some concessions.

Well, MK has a worst track record and was known for bloated crappy games like Deadly Alliance. Street Fighter has a much better track record, even if 4 tarnished it a bit. I really REALLY hate Sf4. I'm glad Capcom at least admitts it was a scrubby games and are making these changes. Hopefully, the 09er bandwagon will die down this time around.

Did you just feel betrayed or something? Yeah, I think I did feel betrayed. You remember how much of an Sf fanboy I was back at kmc?

I just like trying things that I find good. No need to have any bias. I get liking something but it's like people want to be a part of a group. I think liking something and quality is just different.

For me it's not about groups. I was just really into SF at the time and was really bias. That was when I was a massive anime fanboy too. I even thought Goku could beat Superman. Of course, I changed later on. As I changed so did my taste. My favorite animated works these days are Dc animated movies and tv series. Back then it was anime. I also like Doctor Who, Arrow, Batman, Resident Evil, Spongebob, Horror movies and Mass Effect. I'm also less into things and more about enjoying things at pace I like. Yeah, quality and liking things is definitely not the same. I like mk9 more than sf4. But, it's not a better game.

You're a Spongebob fan? MK 9 was better as a general game but not a better competitive game. There's a difference there. MK had a lot of fun factor added to it.
