The next installment of Arc System Works's BlazBlue 2D fighting game series may be coming, "sometime in 2016."
Or at least, that's the tentative release date BlazBlue's creator, Toshimichi Mori, is eyeing.
"I am planning to have the next story sometime next year and the next game will have the last 25% of the story," Mori said in an interview with Siliconera.
For this next game, Mori is thinking of pushing the playable character count up from 28 to over 30. Will Nine and Jubei -- characters Mori addressed in this previous interview -- finally be playable?
He is also toying around with the idea of a tag-team mechanic -- and is seeking fan feedback on it.
"There are two possible options," Mori shared with Siliconera.
"One is you would pick two or three characters like the Capcom vs. SNK 2 or simply choosing characters and tagging out like Tekken Tag Tournament.
"In Capcom vs. SNK 2 players choose characters and they come out in a certain order compared to Tekken Tag Tournament which has characters switching in real time."
Mori's comments on tag-team battle also suggest that the next BlazBlue title may be developed specifically for the PlayStation 4 in mind, as far as the console port is concerned.
"If you consider the PlayStation 4 system, both of these [tag-team mechanics] are possible," Mori added.
"Those are the two directions I’m considering, what do you think of this? The flashiness might need to be cut down if we implement this though."
In Siliconera's interview, Mori also addresses the probability of Arc System Works making a BlazBlue X Guilty Gear cross-over game.
