Tbh, not really. I've been into anime and manga since 98. I was definitely way more into anime and manga despite getting into comics around the millennium. I still watch stuff and have been watching prison school. Hell, I was reading dragonball manga in Japanese. It's not a matter of unfamiliar with the content. Just a matter of prefrence. I'm not even saying one is better than the other, just that right now I rather see x vs y. Finished Fma back in the days. But you're comfortable with Batman and Superman. There's no "breaking it in" period. Even with new titles you are invested in the characters so you're motivated to read it more. Starting out a new title when manga has an insane amount can seem daunting to sort through just to find something you like.

Oh, I get you. Yeah, that's true. You're essentially starting over from scratch everytime you pick up a new series. True, I try to mitigate that by following the same author or creative team. It seems like every five years there's some brand new author making a new popular serie. While over here it's Batman, Spongebob, Doctor Who, etc and more tried and trues. For me, though. I can find new stuff to watch much easier then back then. But, I like that I don't have to dig nowhere near as much with American stuff. Plus I find american mainstream stuff much more passable vs mainstream anime or manga.

It's easier to stick to what you know than to do something you're not as familiar with. With comics and whatnot I'd say I'd prefer Spider-Man, Justice League, etc. Over the HST, but I've seen some great stuff just by searching around that got me into it. Comics can get kind of tired and repetitive too when they don't deviate from the norm or whore out the same characters. Most mainstream stuff is "meh" though, including movies and music. You and I know who all of that's catered to.

That's what I meant. I much prefer Batman or Star Wars to Hst garbage. But, like I said in the other thread. Digging around is the best way to find stuff to watch. I was kind of forced to become a digger with anime because I hated everything everyone was watching. I found all my favorite series from digging. Yeah, it gets repetitive because it's a small core of the same characters and works. Usually the big two or image or some indy characters. It's nowhere as vast as anime or manga where many works are often not translated either. Right now, I'm kinda lazy so I prefer eady to digest western works. When I feel like digging again I'll start up.

I mean watching Superman and Darkseid fight is neat, but they've fought before. You know they're never going to get rid of Superman. I like to see something that tries something new. One thing I like about TMNT is that they have fewer versions despite being out for so long, that you end up with a distinct look and feel.

Compared to American stuff there's alot more novelty. Once in a while comics change the status quo. But, it never last. Yeah. Yuyu hakusho, Hunter X Hunter, and lupin are both known and good. I never go for hype when it comes to anime. Too much hot air.

I'm not really too picky with media unless it's really bad like HST and Sword Arts online. It's only after those shows I became picky lol.

One thing I do like about japanese media is that it's a much smaller market and there's far less collusion. So, there's alot more variety in content and more artistic freedom.

Well, the media in the U.S. is owned by 5 conglomerates: www.businessinsider.com/these-6-corporations-control-90-of-the-media-in-america-2012-6I think that explains why media tends to be so repetitive here. It's always the same properties because it's essentially the same players. I'm sure something similar happens in Japan too. But, monopolies are definitely more pronounced here. Because of crony capitalistic monopolies. The U.S. also gets more money from the government to fund projects.

People buy the same old GTA and CoD, so why would entertainment be any different? With internet and netflix you have access to more than ever before and people gobble up the same thing. Government based monopolies are bad. If a company is dominant because they give people what they want at a low price then that's not bad.

It could be one or the other. The reason why I think it's a monopoly is because Hollywood is often in bed with government and the small amount of companies involved in media. That to me seems like a result of government intervention imo.

This is what I mean't about anime having a bad reputation in America: www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/aug/07/trailer-upcoming-documentary-about-anime-fgc-attempts-warm-your-cold-street-fighter-heart/Before Smash was the supposed outcast that stream monsters bashed, the fighting game community often found pleasure in turning its nose firmly up to anime fighters. Even now, if you do attend tournaments or pay attention to stream chats, you can sometimes find a collective groan when an anime fighter is mentioned. Aside from even something as negative disdain, most fighting game fans simply don't know anything about them or their players.
Anime fighting games are a unique part of the scene. They also have a community that can at times separate itself from the usual Street Fighter or Tekken crowd. Of course, this is nothing more than anecdotal evidence, so take these observations with a grain of salt.
Maybe you have no interest in playing the subgenre, but because you share tournament space with them, it might be best to take a look at the perspective of our fellow fighting game players. Fortunately, the community is working on a documentary, titled Circuit Spark: The Other Side of Fighting Games, focusing on the anime scene.

Yea, people who love SF (a Japanese game) sure like to hate on "anime" fighters, even though Alpha looks like one and Marvel plays like one. SF fans are just big hypocrites.

I see this alot, people who like DBZ hate on other anime despite liking anime themselves. They hate Japanese games despite liking Nintendo or games that copy Japanese games heavily. It's hypocrites.

DBZ, SF, these things have become such a part of American culture people forget they're Japanese. Just had someone say that they hate DBZ for being "overpowered" despite DBZ having way worse writing.

Unrelated, but I was watching Senran Kagura and one of the characters was using the typical Haves vs Have not rhetoric. Where she resented one of the main characters because she was rich. What I found interesting was that the girl using the typical class warfare rhetoric we see in western media was a bad guy and the wealthy girl was the Good guy. If this was america she'd be a good guy instead lol!
One thing I love about anime is how Un-PC it is.

How much media out the portrays the poor as good and the rich as bad? Almost none.

Yeah, America loves Marx and PC culture. It's the "in" thing now. Reminds me of that Thomas Piketty guy. Peter Schiff offered to debate him and he declined lol.

You're probably right though. I probably rather see western stuff because I'm more familiar with it. Even though, I was more into anime b d fore and still have titles I like. Being an American migjt shape my preference to an extent.

I try to go quality but I like different stuff. Then again I've been about stepping out of my comfort zone. I still like the western characters, but sometimes the same ol' same ol gets redundant. They almost have no choice though. Most of their "major changes" are questionable. Like what they did with Spider-Man.
