I had an interesting discussion with Spliffy_Baz on this subject so I was seeing your take on it. Do you feel the current status of minorities or of people in general is due to massive discrimination? Do you feel it has more to do with life choices or perhaps government influcence?
Discuss.

Life choices. Single parents and people with too many kids are only 2 examples. I get that being a single parent isn't their fault but it was their decision to have kids.
I'm only the 2nd generation born in the United States in my family. My parents had 6 kids and we lived happily in poverty. We didn't have extra useless things like cable television until I was in about 7th grade. My parents never once received government assistance like food stamps because they only spent money on essential things.
I see poverty areas today where everyone is walking around with iphones for goodness sake!!

Basically. Some want to deny this (like most people who are in the lower income brackets) but it's just a simple truth. If you make certain lifestyle choices you're going to be poor. If you have kids you can't afford that's the number 1 route to poverty. I mean where else do poor people come from? Poor parents. Then they have these children and live off of the rest of us, forcing people like me to pay for their bad decisions! Also choosing a deadbeat and a thug is their decision and these programs reward them for choosing deadbeats, making them more likely to do it. I was born dirt poor in Mississippi. I have tons of family who have 3-4 kids and live off of the system and Mississippi has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the nation and the highest poverty. It's no accident. I have no kids and I furthered myself while my siblings (except for my youngest) have kids and they're all poor and all live off of the system or have at some point. It's just a fact and I don't care if you're a minority or not. People in poorer income levels don't have enough skills, don't have enough education, crank out kids, and are more likely to have a criminal record. That's a fact. Now a lot of this is due to bad government; like minimum wage laws making it hard for poor or uneducated people to develop skills and drug prohibition putting people in jail for non-violent drug offenses. These are laws that are designed to protect people and backfire. The rest is due to bad decisions. If you don't develop skills, commit crimes, don't educate yourself (doesn't mean college either as that equals debt), and crank out kids you're more likely to be poor. On top of that Americans are horrible at racking up money and debt. I can't count how many people way poorer than myself have fancier cellphones than I do, spend more on video games and other crap, and just consume like crazy when they're barely employed. I look for deals and buy things on sale. I also save and invest. People who are poor don't save or invest. They borrow and rack up debt. If you want to get out of poverty it's like getting into shape. You have certain lifestyle habits. People that are in the lower income brackets don't do this and make excuses. Posters like Mister_LC and some others say this is all bad luck but when you dig in deep enough you realize that it's their own choices.

Hmm about this i think its a combination of life choices and some events such as the Bombing of Black wall street that was located in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1921. This was led by the KKK and they were able to use government resources (mainly planes from WWI air planes) in order to carry out this attack. You can say the Government was complicit in this also since nothing was done to protect the people of Tulsa and its businesses. Economic destruction of this magnitude was a huge blow to the economic power of black people especially since they were just freed from slavery in 1865 give or take some years. Funny that this event is not mentioned in any history book in schools and hardly mentioned in any other media sources
People say "You can always rebuild" but no insurance claims nor restitution were awarded to any of the victims. Im not saying this excuses bad life decisions that lead to bad economic status but its worth taking a look at. All in all this goes into the pot of stew that has many ingredients of whats going wrong today.
Here are a few documentaries on the subject but there is more info out there if you look of course.

There have definitely be illicit activities and those have negative setbacks to others. We all have to deal with illegal and criminal activity and that incident was way before most blacks today were born. Interesting fact is that the unemployment rate for blacks was lower than whites in the 1930's and now it is far higher due to many laws that make it hard for blacks to get a job by making the barrier to entry very high.
Not to mention most of the illegal activity done to blacks, is by other blacks. Most of it is self inflicted in their own community. At least 90% or so is from other blacks and black people due statistically commit the highest percentage of crimes. Young black men make up what... 3% of the population and do about 50% of the crimes. That's a far larger problem.
I'd say a lot of it does have to do with the government and encouraging births out of wedlock as well with numerous welfare, child support, and other sudsidy laws. Those have an impact on America in general though, but it affects blacks moreso than other races.
I don't see it as some racist "conspiracy" to hold blacks down. Asians were discriminated against and they're in the minority and they do way better than blacks, and often better than whites. Jews were discriminated against as well. Many groups faced persecution throughout history but in reality blacks in America also have many advantages and unfair laws that benefit them as well. Affirmative action laws for instance often get the least qualified person hired just because they're in a protected class to the detriment of the business and more qualified people.
Black people also overwhelmingly vote for socialist policies which hurt them as well, which is something else to be considered. At least 90% do which is very sad. We have a monolithic black vote for bad policies.

I know Asians, Jews, Italians, were discriminated against also but me just thinking outside the box a little do you think that the economic ties that the USA has with China, Israel, Japan, Korea, and other Asian countries have an effect on what type of discrimination is being perpetrated?

Maybe, though different groups could face some discrimination based on the mainstream view that is fed to them. Some see China as bad and remember 2001 or so?Middle Easterners of course got it then.
