With more and more corporate sponsorship, international tournaments and prize pools growing into the hundreds of thousands, the FGC is no longer just the grassroots collection of pocket scenes of rag tag gamers in local arcades that it once was.
As we grow into this new echelon, more and more regulation is inevitable. Performance enhancing drug use has plagued professional sports for some time, and we've already seen it in other branches of eSports.
As of right now, there's very little being done in the regulation of drug use in FGC tournaments. Said regulation is not a cheap process, and while there has been some talk, the community itself hasn't really expressed a massive concern in this department.
If we're not careful, we could easily tarnish the integrity of our tournaments, Barry Bonds or Lance Armstrong style. With that in mind, should we start thinking about doing more to monitor players, and make sure they're playing clean?
