Here are the details from eventhubs:
Bandai Namco looking to trademark the term 'Finishing Move', and a successful outcome would affect a lot more than just fighting games
Tekken publisher Bandai Namco has made a somewhat odd move in attempting to trademark the term "Hissatsuwaza," which translates in English to "Finishing Move."
If successful they would own exclusive rights to the term, and have final say over whether other fighting games could use it as well. While not the most common phrase in English, Hissatsuwaza is very commonly used in Japan, and thusly the overall effect it would have in the fighting game realm would be fairly huge.
In a recent video, Jordan and Daniel of The Know reference a Reddit post detailing the decision. They discuss quite a bit more, including the surprising breadth of reach this trademark would have, and the wider implications.
www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4ainlc/bandai_files_trademark_application_for_the_words/ This seems like quite a long shot for the well known game publisher, and one may even go as far to say it seems a bit outlandish in nature. We'd love to hear what you think on the matter after you watch the video.

Companies occasionally try to trademark common terms like this but they usually fail.
