All-Star Games Industry Panel Cancelled at Last Hour For Not Including Women
As reported by Daily Trojan and HeatStreet, the University of Southern California has cancelled an all-star event panel featuring several giants of the gaming industry. Their reason? It wasn’t diverse enough and an all-male panel “didn’t reflect both the diversity within the USC community and the games industry at large.”
The panel would have featured famous and important voices of the games industry such as Rob Pardo (former Blizzard CEO), Brandon Beck ( CEO & Co-Founder of Riot Games) and Peter Levin (President of Lionsgate Interactive) among others.
Not to mention the timing of the cancellation was baffling; just a mere four hours before the scheduled event. The University of Southern California Interactive Media & Games Division not only denied their students the chance to learn from the giants of the gaming industry, but also denied them an opportunity to share their own games to the panel. All because the speakers weren’t women.
