These games define their genres according to this website: www.gamerhelp.com/article_viewer.cfm?article_id=131040Do you agree/disagree/care? Personally I like some of their picks and dislike others. For example, I'd agree with Fallout taking the cRPG (as most would I guess) and the nod to System Shock 2 in the single player FPS group, however I disagreed with a lot of the honorable mentions, as well as Company of Heroes and Halo taking the best RTS and multi player FPS spots, respectively. Also, there's a couple genres I didn't care about (light-gun games? who cares)

I disagreed with half of what they said. One is Chrono Trigger. I'm sure that it is a good game, but games like FF 6 or FF7 should have made the top spot. I believe that Starcraft should have made the top spot for RTS. High Heat Baseball series got the sports category? I never heard of it. I was sure Madden would have gotten it here. Halo 2 I also disagreed with. SF3 was definitely better than SF2. A lot of people don't know about SF3 so that is why people say SF2 is the best.

I can't say I agree with you on that. FF6 would make decent competition, but it's too inconsistent (pre-World of Ruin is good, but not the rest) and FF7, while having a lot in common with VI as well as bringing some extra bits to the table, has a weaker overall storyline, though it does seems a bit more consistent. While I do think Chrono Trigger is a bit overrated (as are a lot of the big SNES RPGs anyway), it's probably the game I'd give that spot to as well.
I wasn't really surprised by the Halo "nomination", that's basically what I'd expect at this point, but the Company of Heroes thing threw me a bit. I guess someone paid them off or something.

I just think the whole thing was probably one person's opinion.

If they didn't put Halo up there people WOULD bring pitchforks. They had no choice. Timesplitters 3 FTW. SF2... eh, it's a classic. But their reasons for picking it were a bit suspect. They didn't even consider SF3, and that game was fantastic. I can't say SF2 defines the genre so much as it kicked off the genre. Their were a lot of things wrong with it. Namely the AI and the balance. But I suppose both were good for their time. If Company of Heroes surpasses Starcraft as an RTS, I would HAVE to play it. that scares me, the fact that they actually considered starcraft as a valid candidate and it still lost. Starcraft is RTS at perfection, and the 11 years it's spent on the game shelves should make that evident.

It doesn't as far as I'm concerned. But anyway, it's a very different gameplay style as opposed to Starcraft's arcade-esque nature.

Ok. First to go through the list and pick the ones I agree with-
God of War. This one is a definite. This game kicks all kinds of ass.
Quest for Glory. Old school game that was challenging back in the day.
High Heat Baseball. I keep wishing that this game would comeback, but with EA having a strangle hold on the sports genre it doesn't look good. And Madden (IMHO) isn't even the best football game of all time.
Gran Turismo 2. Great game, and they keep getting better.
Tetris. Who doesn't play Tetris?
SF2. One of the classics.
RE2. Another great game.
Games I dont agree with-
Fallout. They actually think this game is better than Ultima? I guess I will have to go back and play it to make sure.
Company of Heroes. Not sure this game beats Command & Conquer. I am not much of a Starcraft fan.
The others I can't comment on, as I haven't played enough of the various games to make a fair judgment on.

Ultima tends to get left out often for some reason, probably because of its age and the fact that most people have only played UO. Picking the right Ultima game would also come into play there too, most people seem to prefer 7 while others side with 4.

I particularly like Ultima V, most people do like IV, and I dont know why they messed around with VI like they did. VII was fun, and VIII was different. IX was, by far, the worst of the series.

Nice sig C. (see how I did that? little alliteration for ya.)
IX's in these series must have a tendency to suck. FFIX sucked too... But frankly I can't think of any others at the moment.

From what I've seen, FFVIII was a lot worse, though I'll note I spent very little time with it. I never played Ultima IX because of the fan reaction (nearly everyone hated it), all I know about it is that it's the least of an RPG in the series (the series is known for being ground breaking in the genre) and the plot blows.

I couldn't even really explain the plot. I have the game upstairs in a box somewheres. One day I will find it, and most likely throw the thing out. I wasted 40-50 bucks on that game.

Is that what made you start downloading games? That is 1 of the things. In my opinion there is nothing like watching a TV commercial for a game. Thinking that the game looks really cool. Going to the store, plopping down 50 bucks. Going home, putting the game in, and within 10 minutes realizing that the game company fucked me in the ass. So now I am giving it back to the game manufacturers.

I've stopped trying to rationalize it now though and just tell myself I'm a thief, just like the other half a million psp owners who use homebrew.

Yh. The PSP is pretty cool, as is the DS. I have the PSP running a custom firmware, and the DS has a couple of Flash Carts.
I like how just about every game is available for download. Its a great time that we live in.

What flash carts do you have? I'm all old school now with the gbamp v2 SD. The only thing really decent I can run on it is moonshell and comicbook ds, but it is not that great now because I have a PSP.

I have the R4DS to play DS games, and I also have the Supercard for GBA games.
For games that are on both DS and PSP, the PSP games are usually better. I enjoy playing both of them though.

For a while I was thinking of either getting an R4 or an M3, but I decided I didn't need it because all of the things I want to emulate I could already do on the PSP. I'm a member of this one website which is pretty cool. It is a forum that talks a lot about the R4, M3 etc. gbatmw.net
