Resident Evil series is one of my favorite game series ever in fact I will soon reveal a surprise proving how much I like it.
Silent Hill series is more of a unreal terror that you won't believe it sucks knowing you could die any minute.
You tell me which survivial horror game series is better and please don't say Silent Hill just for the movie already then thank you good day bye bye then.

Your are not the first to say that to me but I thought Resident Evil went a bit better on both game sales and the franchise.

The Silent Hill movie was ass anyway. At least the first two Resident Evil films (haven't seen the newest; don't really care to) were enjoyable in an MST3K sort of way, despite being anal sewage as well.
As a game series though, Silent Hill is a lot better. Stronger atmosphere, better pacing, and best of all - it's lighter on the human element, allowing more room for emphasis on the enemy. For example, Resident Evil's more of a straight-forward good vs. evil sort of thing while Silent Hill is more about humanity vs. some great, immeasurable unknown.

This is hard for me because Resident Evil is responsible for some of the scariest moments in my video gaming life.
However, on a more general basis Silent Hill freaked me out more and kept that feeling going.
For gameplay and character I give the edge to Resident Evil For plot and ambience I give the edge to Silent Hill
And let's face it, we usually play these games for the ambience so Silent Hill for me.

And let's face it, we usually play these games for the ambience so Silent Hill for me. Pretty much, yeah. I'm in the business for the overall feeling of hopeless, suffocating horror. Isolated scares can be nice, especially in that context (great horror games like System Shock 2 and, yes, Silent Hill both excel at this), but the atmosphere is what keeps me coming back.

I don't enjoy playing just one personally.
I start with the first and then play them back to back.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was originally going to be an add-on to Resident Evil 2.

They are both good in their own ways, but if I had to compare them I'd say it depends what your looking for. Silent Hill is scarier than Resident Evil IMO due to the psychological connotations and themes. The story also takes more work to put together than Resident Evil and can feel more convoluted but in general has more overall depth. Not to say that Resident Evils plot lacks depth. But, it's not comparable to Silent Hill, which in turns gives Silent Hill a more mystery element. The setting is more surreal as well and it does more to push the horror.
Resident Evil has more action elements than Silent Hill, the horror isn't as profound though it's there. It has more action elements as well and a rock solid cast compared to Silent Hill. It isn't as lengthy and in depth when it comes to plot versus Silent Hill. It also doesn't come close to touching the amount of Suspense and Mystery Silent Hill has. It's apples and oranges to me and it depends on what your looking for. As for the movies I enjoyed them both, granted Silent Hill was more faithful. Resident Evil was good nonetheless. . . The first one at least the sequels were Awful. . . Both of them.
