He works hard, but he obviously has a much higher aptitude for these abilities than the natural person. Things that he mastered would take even the most gifted martial artist 3-4 times that long in their own universe.

Well, Kyo's not a schoolkid anymore, but even thoiugh he's moved through the ranks of manliness to the rank of very un emplyed young adult, he's still not a match for Ryu in terms of fighting capability.
