But they aren't competeing everything is planned out ahead it is likr a dance thought of ahead of time. I'm not taking away from their athletic ability they are great athltes but just because they are doesn't mean their in a sport and for your info I don't count fishing and Poker as a sport. But it's still a sport by definition despite the intricancies. I think it is more of a performance or a show. Real sports are also played when nobody is watching. If nobody was watching "wrestling" they wouldn't "wrestle". It is just to entertain the audience, not the athletes. hmm darts is a sport. fat men drink beer and throw three pointy things at a board whoopie It was a lot more fun when the person I was playing against hit the board wrong, and then the dart starts flying at my head. Ahh, good times.

But you are not realizing that people entertain themselves by "wrestling" wrestling all the time. The grapples, slams, application of leverage, and all of that is very real and very dangerous if done by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Far more dangerous than swinging a bat or throwing a hoop. It takes more skill to fake an attack and go through with it than it does not to. Like I said, in terms of WWE and whatnot, it IS Wrestling entertainment (that means they're more focused on entertainment) and they've made that known . Wrestling itself is very broad to not be classified as one. Me knowing the outcome makes it a performance, but it's still sporting and a sport nonetheless. It's very demanding, and there is a competitve aspect to it, as people have to maintain their place and the demands change It's like saying movies aren't real art because they're "fake" it doesn't make sense in it's basic premise.
Competition by definition doesn't state that it has to predetermined or not, just going against. Drama shows are predone and staged and they are competition. Stunt men don't compete directly and are doing their job. Despite it being stage the whole theme is competitive, AvsB, rank vs rank. You can even bet.
Competition is the act of striving against another force for the purpose of achieving dominance or attaining a reward or goal, or out of a biological imperative such as survival. Competition is a term widely used in several fields, including biochemistry, business, ecology, economics, music, politics, and sports. Competition may be between two or more forces, life forms, agents, systems, individuals, or groups, depending on the context in which the term is used.
Also add pool, and power lifting.

According to this Pro Wrestling is not a competition. Since the outcome of each match is predetermined, how can one strive against another to achieve dominance? The person who is told to lose is not going to strive to win. He is only going to look like he is.

The outcome is predetermined but these people are more physically capable than pretty much anyone out there.

It may be physically demanding bit in order for me to consider it a sport it has to be an actual competive match with an undetermined outcome. Pro Wrestling is pre determined and therefore more entertainment then sports I have to say I agree with newjak here. I don't really watch WWF, unless I'm zonked out on the couch and there's absolutely nothing on, but I noticed a few things which were too obvious to miss. The way they create 'bad guys' and 'good guys' are so contrived I actually wince sometimes. And they way they cater to the ratings made me cringe. I will agree with C in that they are great athletes as well, though. People like Kurt Angle impressed the hell out of me (the few times he actually stopped posturing for long enough to get actually get down to roll-and-tumble) but then like newjak said: It really is more for entertainment than it can be classified as a real sport. While I have a real respect for these guys' athletic abilities and dedication, their skills and hard (and frequently dangerous work) I am never gonna consider something like WWRaw a sport so much as I am going to view it as entertainment. These guys deserve the same respect as stuntmen, but until they make stunt work a sport neither is pro wrestling That's just my opinion, of course... (As with anything else in entertainment )

Anyone like Rugby or anything of the sort? Three things you all might as well know right now about me - I'm South African I'm male The other thing you might not know is that I am actually Afrikaans, and that English is my second language. Now, this is not well-known outside of S. Africa (and perhaps Australia and New Zealand, but they're all sheep shaggers, so who cares about them ) but there are certain rules, unspoken rules, that you have to obey if you are the above mentioned three things and you wanna survive in this country. I'll probably get into trouble for sharing this information with you, but if you won't tell anybody else, then I won't either Okay. Rule one: You support rugby. And unless you are paraplegic, blind, mentally retarded (and even that's no excuse, all that happens then is that you become a referee ) or a sissy-boy, you play rugby, at least at school. No matter what team you play for. And once you've grown up, you watch rugby. Every weekend. No matter who plays. And you braai (barbeque). And you drink beer. Lots, and lots, and lots of beer. If you do not do this, some night, in the small wee hours, you will hear a knock on your door. And when you open the door, two big men, with huge beer bellies and khaki shorts and veldskoene (home-made leather shoes - literally field shoes) will be standing there, drinking double brandy and coke. (This means they have been watching rugby for so many years, and braaiing so often, that beer is now to them like Coke is to other people, and they need that heady nectar of the gods, that flavourful combination of caffeine, sugar and alcohol that only double brandy and cokes can supply, to function as true rugby supporters should.) Behind them, parked at the curb, will be a Ford 3L. Doesn’t matetr what Ford, as long as it’s a three liter. And each of the men standing in front of you will have a moustache. And then one of them will twitch his moustache, and tell you in a heavy voice that you must accompany them. And what will happen to you then nobody will ever talk about again. Ever. So, to summarise: Yeah, I watch rugby! ;D

(As with anything else in entertainment ) I don't watch it anymore either, I think the show is horrid. But they still compete, toss and turn. But like I said it's sports entertainment, an athletic event built like a soap opera, but there are other professional circuits besides WWE, but it's just the first that comes to mind for most people.
