Alright, I have one similar to the Hulk but also very different.
Basically, this soldier takes a serum which gives him powers and it helps him help America to win a war that had been going on for months. So, after helping America end the war quicker, he decides to go into a field of science. About a decade later he notices that his powers have gone and when attempting to study the loss of his powers, he changes into a 10 foot gray beast that wrecks everything & kills a few people. From there he will be on the run for about three to five years and many other things will be going on when he returns.
The monster of my story is different from the Hulk because he's like a baby with godly power. He has no way to control himself and he's even dumber than the Hulk, which makes him a bit more dangerous as well. But, he will smarten up as time progresses.

David/Goliath
I'm seriously forgetting his last name. And for anyone looking for a patten, it's much cheaper to mail your ideas to yourself. They give you proof they're you're creation & all ya have to do is make a copy of the important stuff and seal it up but don't even open it.
Now, I have other characters I shall talk about in my next post.

There is no such thing as a "Poor Man's Patent."
I do wish you well in your pursuit of a comic, and I hope to one day read it.

Poor man's patent? Dude, this technique is used by many.
Also, I have this other character who embodies what can go wrong in the course of one day. What happens is he is born to an abusive mother & father, and tries to make the best out of his life despite not even finishing school. He manages to get a good job, a girlfriend, and some good friends. One day, while closing up they are kidnapped & he's forced to see his friends shot execution style & his girlfriend gangraped. He tries to fight back & is brutally beaten & left with hideous scars. When he awakes, the scars are what drive him over the edge & he goes "missing", only to return years later with a sinister plot directed at the city he felt did him wrong and he believes everything he's doing is right.
I'm thinking of going for some scary clown like make-up, but I'm not sure yet. All I know for sure about the model is that he'll be modeled after Heath Ledger as a tribute.

You mail something to yourself and it is a federal document therefore copyrighted. I just need to get around to it.

Poor man's patent? Dude, this technique is used by many. *sigh* I am not sure whom you think these "many" are. People do try a technique called "Poor Man's Copyright". But as you said Patent, Patent and Copyright are two different things. But even using the "Poor Man's Copyright" is a bad idea, with so many alternatives in today's hi-tech world. I am not going to go over the pitfalls of trying to use this system of patenting. You are free to try to patent your inventions and ideas any way you like, suffice to say there are cheap alternatives that would hold up much better in court. I know what you're talking about, I was going to do it to my copyrighted characters. You mail something to yourself and it is a federal document therefore copyrighted. I just need to get around to it. Again, there are much better ways to copyright your work my friend.

I was going to do it the official way, but it seemed expensive, and time consuming, if you have any alternatives, I'll be glad to hear them. But I have had many people who made artwork tell me about that. But honestly I'm not usually about the cheap route unless it's in extreme cases.

It works, my bro has told me about it & so has another person who told me a lot about comics & when I brought up a patten, this was the first thing he suggested, so it's what I'm going with. It's proof the characters are mine & it works. It's not being cheap, I'm using the quickest route to do everything since I've finally come out with characters people on most of the forums I've been on have liked.

Do what works for you, I *think* (though I could be wrong), that copyrights that are official are $45 a concept, I could be way off though.

I'm using this now so that as I promote my idea, no one can steal it. If they try, I sue them & get some easy bucks. Right now I'm still working on everything, and the basic concept behind most of my ideas have been finished.

You are free to use any means necessary. I would just like to know has either your bro or the other person had to take anyone to court in relation to someone stealing their patent? And what was each person's invention that they needed to have a patent for? I just caution anyone else thinking along those lines- if anyone has an invention and is seeking a patent for it, do not use the "Poor Man's Patent". Sending yourself a letter will only prove one thing, that you sent yourself a letter.

Eh, it has the date that it was sent which proves the date it was created. If you don't think it works, too bad, it does.

Eh, it has the date that it was sent which proves the date it was created. If you don't think it works, too bad, it does. Again, all you have proof of is that you have sent a letter to yourself. Yes, there will be a date on it; that is known as a postmark. You will certainly have proof of the date that you mailed a letter to yourself. The contents are another matter entirely, as is diligence. My last bit of advice to you, since you seem to think you know everything, is to do some of your own research. You don't believe me, that is fine. The work that would be in jeopardy is not my own. Take the time to look up what you are planning on doing. There are countless people that have tried to do what you are thinking of doing, and they have been burned in the long run. Obviously your bro and the other guy never had anyone infringe on their inventions. I have wished you well and tried to give you some sound advice. I will finish this with good luck.

Like I said, it proves that it's your creation, and I don't seem to think I know everything, I'm going on something someone who has comic knowledge knows about, and something others have said was safe to do. Don't like it? Too bad.

Don't like it? Too bad. I'm not sure how comic knowledge relates to patent law. Good luck with that. Anyways... Are you doing everything - art, coloring, storyline, etc? Or are you doing one task and delegating the others?

Let's take it easy you two, I see both sides. It would be a challenge to have circumstantial evidence that they are yours. I mean you could write the date, but then again it could be said the date is exaggerated before the mail is sent, but if the mail is sent at the right time I could see where it would work. I would want to do something the official way, although I can see the flaws in that system.

It has the date on it that it was sent out, and contains the idea. So, let's say someone tries to steal it a year or so later. In court, all I'd have to do is open the envelope and show it's contents, which would prove me the creator.

I see what you mean and what he means, Ron is simply trying to say how could you prove that *you* sent it, say there could be doubt that someone else still made them, that's all.

Dude, when I open the letters, since it's my handwriting, it'd pretty much prove everything.

Yeah, I have this other idea I've been working on where it shows how this guy becomes psychotic because of him having to watch his friends being shot execution style & his girlfriend being gangraped. He tries to fight back but is given horrible scars. He kills some doctors, is declared missing, & returns years later to wreak havoc on the city. He's going to be so messed up in the head.

Well, in a way, TDK got my creative juices running, so I decided to start working on this idea. It'll be more in the realistic realm & it's the opposite of what we get in traditional hero/villain stories. Usually it's the hero who inadvertly or somehow creates the villain, but it's the villian that causes a man to become a hero this time. He'll be a cop at first, but quits due to all the corrupt cops he's forced with & because he feels that even with the amount of good cops & judges, all that could be done isn't being done to put away criminals. He takes it upon himself to take out the criminals, and is even stealing weapons he needs to aid him. As time progresses he'll be more weapon savvy & he will improve physically but I'd say right now he's on a physical scale where our villain can fight back & not make himself look bad or whatever.

The hero's name is Dark Vengeance and the villain's name is Sadisto. I had some help with the names from Bat Dude, and I really like 'em. I'm still trying to figure out how both will look and how I'll write out the second book after I'm sure that the first book has all the necessary corrections.
