I think I made a thread on Art vs. Porn. Porn helped make the internet what it is today, but the internet helped destroy the porn industry. Bitter irony.

Well both. The internet helped the porn industry, but pornography was a big part of making the internet from something that was just a basic information system to people browsing sites and communicating. Stuff for the casual user.

Yep, only a fool pays for porn nowadays, free porn finds you, you don't have to find it.

I always thought the Internet became popular because of social networking and downloading entertainment. I guess there'll always be perverts who need to look at porn just to satisfy themselves, which is sad.

You'd think the porn industry would get rid of their websites in order to get people to pay for it, but I guess it won't be affective since some people like to upload sex tapes and their own versions of porn.

Well, all you have to do is disable pop-ups and avoid "naughty" websites. That's what I've been doing...

Well I mea n before all of that pornography was a staple on the internet before downloading movies, facebook, online gaming, and all that had been popular. Internet porn is just synonmous with each other. There is not a person who doesn't know what it is over the age of ten.

There is so much free porn out there that it would be impossible to simply "clean up", and then you have ameutur porn and all of that.

A person who is sexually curious especially when they are young isn't perverted per se. I'm sure everyone has had some porn pop up and was a little curious. People are sexual beings and are programmed to be that way. I'm not advocating or watching porno myself, but you'd be surprised at who does. The people who haven't had a date in years and sit at home watching porn all day may have a problem. Porn changes your views and perceptions on sex and the opposite sex and not to mention that the stuff they show you isn't like real sex at all, it is a non-simulated "simulation" for fun. Since most guys use porn as their guideline for real sex, they often do it wrong, uncomfortably or even painfully. People don't want to learn about sex properly or ask because they are too self conscious or they are too prideful to learn. Even aside from religious reasons porn has it's issues, but people generally see it first out of curiousity about the opposite sex.

It's not hard to avoid porn if you have good protection though.

Well, I've never been curious about porn. During the very few times it popped up while I was searching the Internet on another computer, I never indulged in it like most guys would do. I just avoid it since I've never been a fan of looking at private parts of complete strangers.

I guess people would consider me "weird" for being like that all of my life.

Well even then everyone is curious about the human body of both sexes or sex itself. I probably would find it weird if a person didn't want to know about a primary biological function, no matter how they were raised. Actually the more "uptight" a child was brought up the more they'd want to know. I mean I don't watch it either, but I know I was curious way back in the day.

Well, you must think I'm a weird person since I never pursued that kind of knowlege. I found out most of the information through "the talk" my parents gave me and by taking health classes, but I never felt the need to look up that kind of information on the Internet unless it was for a decent reason.

Oh I didn't mean it in a mean way. I just thought you were saying you weren't curious about girls or relationships at all... I was about to be shocked. I was always into the human body myself when I was very young, so I always had an advanced knowledge about it. I had a book called the Life Cycle Library I read that talked about everything from dating to childbirth. I find that parent talks can be good (and are necessary), but most parents in this culture are too shielding. Health classes don't give a "real" look too often either, and that isn't generally until middle school (although in high school we had a good talk about it). I was learning about it way before then. But it also tied into relationships and everything and about childbirth too.

Porn definitely shouldn't be a child's teacher, but a child is going to be curious, that's a fact of life. We're wired that way.

What can 1 say about porn? Nothing, really. It is what it is. My beliefs lead me 2 believ it's rong but how can I judge, I enjoy porn from time 2 time. I can not condem porn unless I condem my self 1st. Let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone. I will say that it has gotten much better over the years, congrats. I even hear that the industry is looking 4 a "gov. bail out".

It's okay for a child to be curious about the opposite gender and relationships, but they don't have to look at porn in order to find out that kind of information. It's better to ask their parents and/or teachers for that kind of information rather than taking the initiative in finding out for themselves using innappropriate sources. That's what I did, and I turned out great.

I think asking is good, but also researching it yourself. Parents are out of date about a lot of things, and teachers only say so much. Sex is definitely something one should be educated about. Probably not through porn primarily, but all around dedicated research.

But like Killface said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Everybody is doing something wrong, so it's not right to really condemn others even if we disapprove.

True, but some things are considered "more morally wrong" than other things. By a moral standpoint, let's compare killing a family member and shoplifting. They're both considered bad things, but killing a family member is considered worst than shoplifting since it goes against most people's morals. The person who killed a family member is very likely to receive a greater punishment than the shoplifter.

You're right about people needing to be educated about sex. If someone wants to know about sex, then they should read some books, research, or ask an adult about it. Porn doesn't do anything educationally since it's just a bunch of pictures with expose body parts of real or fictional people.

I really hope nobody think porn videos are educational. As a person who has never engaged in sexual intercourse before, i.e. virgin, I don't have to look at other people having sex in order to know how to do it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to make the person you love feel better, or trying to find ways to please them or learn about their body. Nobody knows all there is to know about sex, so it's good to research and it shows you consider other people besides yourself in bed. People who are utterly self serving there are utterly self serving in real life generally. I would get more into what I'm talking about but I'm not sure how people would take it, but I could talk about it without getting too explicit.

Well the problem is that it *might* stem some crime for a while, but it would be ridiculous fast. We have to realize that the prisoners are expensive to keep up and are fed and taken care of out of the taxpayers money. So essentially what you would have is people taking away from the national resources and contributing nothing back. Obviously in serious cases that's a understandable thing, but in other cases like stealing some candy it's really not worth it. There was a big debate about that too.

Agreed. I don't think that there should be anything wrong in trying to have a mutually satisfying sex life. People that are only into self gratification at the expense of others usually find themselves alone after all is said and done.


So if watching a few porn videos gives a person an idea that might be beneficial to his/her sex life than more power to them.

Pretty much the same frame of mind I'm on. Pornography as a whole is neither inheretly good or bad, rather just part of human life. I've watched a handful of porn before and it's not so much of a big deal as people make it out to be. However, that's not to say it's not without it's problems. Problems which have been mentioned in this thread already. My descrepency with porn is that the standards are disgustingly low and just seems so smutty [If that's even a word]. Which is why I watch far less porn if not none at all. Porn can be an artform, but not the way it's handled now.

I agree, porn back in the 70's and early 80's were a legititmate genre of film from what I understand. The stars required real acting ability and there was such thing as a plot. What bothers me is that the industry is so wealthy and yet it's so low budget, it's so profane, it's standards are so low that it's repulsive to be honest.

I look at them for the same reason, I mean who doesn't. But, alot of the smut turns me off and just keeps me away from most porn. It just looks so laughably cheap that I cannot take it seriously. It looks more like visual prostitution than a real artform.

Yea, I made a thread about porn and art. I don't think it wasn't meant to be, but lol nowadays, like anything, most things lose their quality and become mass produced.

Porn is what it is, I mean you'd just have to see what we mean when we say it's over the top. Or you don't have to. That's your choice, you aren't being pleasured by it and you'd see what we meant, but then again what is watched can't be unwatched. It's like a zoo really.
