That was an interesting article.
You might have to post that article in almost every forum since certain members seem to be have problems debating properly.

The problem also seems to be that too many people treat discussions as if they were debate contest.

That article is really sumthing. It trully speaks 2 and about the problems of debates and discussions 2 day. I also think that a problem people have N debates is that they think their opinion is fact and b little those who don't agree.

Well, a debate is a contest where there are winners and losers. Discussions on the other hand have no such thing, it's just a comparison of different idea's to bring new or clarify understanding. People who are insecure and need an ego boost will most likely join a debate. Or people who are really competitive will join a debate contest as well. We live in a very competitive world. So, it's not too surprising that debates are so popular.

The problem with that is many people barely no what they R talking about. 4 instance, back at KMC people wood enter debates like Sephiroth VS Jedah, or Pyron VS KOSMOS and go on and on about how the DS wood lose (and there is nothing rong with that) yet they didn't even no who the characters were. They just seen the guys they like N a thread against "sum guys" they didn't no. U had people say Sephiroth would beat Demitri AFTER he absorbs Pyron....

That's because people wanna put their 2 cents or just seem right. This all goes back to so many people wanting to seem like winners. So, when you put them in a non-competitive situation they cannot function.

There's a time and place for both IMO.
A discussion is the only way to go with really serious topics (i.e. religion, politics, etc.) because debates will only fuel the fire that's already there. It's hard enough to run a discussion on those kinds of things without it getting heated. And discussions also foster that laid back environment where it's easy to recall something you said, or even change your mind, because we all know one of the biggest problems in debate and discussion is disagreeing on terms, or not interpreting the argument properly.
So that's good, but in a discussion you really lose that persuasive thunder that's so prevalent in a debate. As logically critical and anal as I am, I find it to hard agree with even the most sound arguments when the person arguing for it has zero conviction and no fire. Likewise, I have trouble staying awake through "discussions" when everyone agrees on everything, and no one can stick to one position because they're changing their minds all the time. Now, granted it's good to change your mind, but if me changing my mind in the middle of a discussion is going to evict my old stance from the scene altogether, then that position is no longer being represented. I mean, change your mind sure, but keep arguing; play devil's advocate. That's how you logically appraise beliefs in the first place.
Basically, debates are good when the participants handle themselves maturely, meaning no internet anonymity, and usually no religion or politics, unless of course the debaters can clearly handle themselves in these kinds of situations. And discussions are good for keeping already flammable topics from exploding. And they're great for the internet. 'nuff said.

Yea I agree for the most part. Things like comics are generally made to be "debated" (though not KMC style necessarily) but serious things need to be discussed or else you'll have flame wars. God knows I've seen enough of that.

Yea discussions work better, especially in smaller places like this, but if a debate is handled properly, it would work very well also.

There shood B no problem with discussions or debates if people handle themselves like grown-ups. I don't prefer 1 over the other but N debates of a serious nature, I tend 2 start a debate on the wrong side of my own B-leafs win it's O.K. 2 do so.

I like debates more. Alot more entertainin'. If you just get too stupid I can just put you on my ignore list. You'd be suprised at how many people I put on my ignore list. Lol, I can't see 3/4 of KMC's posts and I mean that quite literally. My list is long...
You know, not really, I like the whole debate thing, but I really can't stomach it at KMC. I can show tons of post where I tell people "whatever" or "leave me alone". I mostly like to state my opinion and bounce at that place. It would be cool if I didn't KNOW erbody was so biased. But it's REALLY bad noobs and atmosphere that make you team up wit peeps you don't like, peeps on my ignore list. Like recently.

All at KMC my friend. Wolverine is 1 of the main reasons I never entered the comic section. I read this thread where an overwhelming amount of peeps said he would beat the Hulk.

There are a main sect of fanboys, otherwise most think they are crazy, they are routinely branded as such, though people still argue with them. There are fanboys everywhere. It's a part of life. You're worn out from KMC aren't you? Also did you want an avatar and sig?

And yeah, I would like an avatar and sig, I was thinkin' 'bout importin' my one from KMC but you can make me one if you want.
