Linearity just doesn't work with Duke. 3d was great as it had complete movement in the environment. Thankfully they made several mod packs to keep gaming up to standard.

The game tv show that i usually watch do a end of year episode, They have some some catagories such as one "Big Claim, Lame Game" Duke Forever was nominated it did'nt win of course and they later said they had to override the popular vote because it never claimed to be the next Halo or whatever...

People were just hating on it from the get go. The fact that it took so long to come out hyped their expectations. When they got a game that was solid- but not great, they sought to wreak havoc on it. Not to mention the fact that they were "offended" by the content. It's Duke Nukem for crying out loud.

Imo, the game was made for people who played Duke back in the day. When you have Halo and CoD lames spewin opinions on a game like Duke, you know it's gonna be bad.

Yea, casual fags ruin everything. The game was nowhere *near* a 1 or 2. The game had some "new age" stuff which didn't work as well, I think they should have kept the game open with tons of weapons.

The achivements for the game seem easy again, Gearbox needs to work harder on them for the next game they bring out.

Yea there were a few that challenged people, The Golden Gun challenge and the Damn I'm Good Challenge.

I tried playing Forever on Insane i got stuck on the mothership battle

some people find achivements/Trophies useless, I think they're a good idea for games get more out of it.

Yea, that's what I mean. People found that to be a pain. I enjoy real difficulty, in fact I love incredibly hard games, I don't like cheapness though. I beat through it, I just didn't like the 2 hits and your dead thing. I'd rather just take out the regenerating health and make it more reasonable. Sure in Duke 3d many characters could kill you in 1-2 hits but you were more mobile and you had a completely free environment so it was more fun.


I think achievements can be ok, depending on the person. Casual gamers like them more, but guys like me looked for crazy stuff to do in games before they came out with it. I called it "game stunting".

Well i'm not a casual gamer and i don't mind doing them its just the ones to do with multiplayer which can be annoying.

Well yea, some more hardcore gamers like to unlock stuff, what I mean is that the feature just entice newer gamers. People who play hardcore do that kind of stuff anyways on their own time. Achievements don't bother me either way though.

Duke was built on expectation and hype. It was a decent game, just not supreme. Better than much of the trash nowadays.
