Evil Ryu vs Oni

Well who wins?
It looks like a draw game to me.

Lorewise, it would have to be Oni, considering IIRC he is not 1, but 2 forms past Akuma and thus Evil Ryu.

I have no problem with it necessarily being Oni but it doesn't seem to be a huge gap. That ascended version of Evil Ryu looks like he's on another level than standard Akuma. I always got the implication they were more peers than anything. Guess we'll never know though.

Well, Ryu has a few forms.

Ryu.
Partial Evil Ryu (Retains White Gi)
Full Evil Ryu (Black Gi)
Permanent Evil Ryu (As of Street Fighter 4)

While Gouki has a few, but each is a full tier.

Gouki (Pre Dark hadou)
Akuma (Post Dark Hadou Training)
Shin Akuma
Oni
Shin Oni

Well there's also Shin Evil Ryu (which is just stupid broken) Shin is either the boss version or not holding back anyways but Shin Evil Ryu is stupid with that teleport lol.

I remember frisky posting some thing ages ago that said they weren't "what if characters" I can't find it for the life of me though.

Ironically, I was just reading that thread when you mentioned the interview. Divine intervention? lol

I was, but I switched back to Akuma. It was more stable.

I would use a Skyrim one myself

Yea transformers had a broken image I had to fix. The older backgrounds have a different styles with a different layout on the buttons but they're smaller.

I like the Akuma one, but Evil Ryu and SF girls work for me too.

There's been alot of debate whether Oni Is stronger or weaker than Akuma. Since Oni is Akuma after he loss control of Satsui No Hadou or something. Honestly, I don't know the story in SF4. I never bothered to follow it because it was just a mess. Alsmost as bad as Alpha 3. SF2 and SF3 were the only ones I followed storywise. But, then all these crazy story points in Alpha 3 and SF4 made me stop caring. Surprisingly MK has a much better story.

I liked Alpha 3 but it had a lot of characters and a lot going on.


People were saying Oni was weak because he only had the volcano feat and he's supposedly out of control. He seems to be stronger by presentation though.

They call him a God and what not. Every quote he has about him features a character remarking on how powerful he is. So, he's definitely a cut above Akuma. The problem is Shin Akuma exsist in Street Fighter 4 and so does Shin Oni. It's weird.

Yea they are presented as "uber dbz" characters. Don't remember the god comment specifically. Always saw the Shin characters as "boss" characters or just going all out.

Nah the worst were characters like Omega Tom Hanks and stuff like that.

I did like some Evil Ryu and Evil Ken that were floating around at the time. They were strong but it was mainly because they had such good ai. I'll have to post a vid of them.

Well Shin is just supposed to be their true power or them not holding back, much like Shin Bison. As far as Oni is concerned.... well they had to up the ante I guess.

It seemed like they made him much more different compared to his Alpha 2 and 3 version, but I like his CvS2 version the most although people are on the SF4 bandwagon.

That Sf4 movie showed he was definitely different.

I generally prefer that "silently pissed-off" aoproach that Evil Ryu had in the earlier days (CVS2/A2/A3).
Now he is just some juvenile, raving maniac. And, I do not mean that in a nice way. It is hopelessly unappealing. And, I still don't think all of these "Shin" or "Evil" versions of pre-existing characters are necessary but for some odd reason, people are into that sort of thing. What could have been done in some of these fighting games is have the said character "transform" into these states during the match, rather than waste a damn character slot.

Well in this version he seems more obsessed with violence than in CvS2. They had some similarities but I do like the thirst to just whoop some ass so to speak vs the generic "the answer lies in the heart of battle" thing over and over. Akuma got too wordy and it killed his mystique.

I like the hole in the chest, but CvS2 had the best moveset to me and I like that game much more.

It started off as the bosses just being op and they named them "shin". God Rugal and Shin Gouki were a different type of Shin in CvS2 though, quite literally.

I like the CvS2 version of most characters. But you're right Shin Gouki rocked there, but I also liked his Alpha 3 style as well.
