One of the biggest taboos on the internet is being pro-Intellectual Property. Which I happen to be since I know how hard content creators work. Here's an article about the effect of piracy on one of my favorite hobbies anime: theangryotaku.blogspot.com/2010/07/galapagos-effect-in-my-manga-its-more.htmlArticle is long, so, you might want to sit down for it. Most "fans" don't care, though. Bring up I.P. in any discussion and all you'll get is rationalizations. It doesn't help that the internet has beena great detriment to intellectual property [oh noes, I criticize the great almighty internet]. Government doesn't seem to care, though. Japan for example seems much more interested in protection of I.P. then we in america do and any attempt to defend I.P. will illicit mouth foaming retorts from parasites as always. This is something I've wanted to get off my chest for a while and I'm prepared to be attack for my opinion. Since Free media content is sacrosanct in the west.

It's always hotly debated and people will steal when they can get away with it. Taking someone else's work for free is stealing, which is a shame because digital work tends to be cheap enough already.

Going back to the anime thing. This has been a big issue for me since the rise of digital fansubs in the mid 00's. I'm no saint and I've dabbled in fansubs. However, I recognize that they're not productive. Animation is expensive, the japanese opted for limited animation because traditional animation is time consuming and costly. They've only managed to keep their industry afloat via sweatshop work conditions and real fans. That is fans who are willing to pay 3 times the price of a normal dvd.[ A bluray anime for example cost the equivalent of 100 us dollars and at best includes 2-3 episodes.] and buy said dvds/blurays disk in bulk [They're called vippers]. Yet, here in the west despite anime dvds being much cheaper. Fans refuse to pay. Bunch of brats.

There was a game that people could donate as much as they wanted to as it was made by a small startup company. You still had a large percentage of people stealing the software. Just unbelievable. Property rights become harder to defend on the internet, and then you have things like patents.

It's rather odd because the internet was seen as a free place to express ideas and to facilitate trade, which it has done to a great extent actually. Well people debate about patents taking away competition while securing ideas. Still hotly debated even now.

All technology is a tool which enhances mans productivity. The internet is as free as we use it to be. However, when people become marxist then the way they use technology is different. I don't hate the net [I'm using it obviously] and online markets like Amazon plus digital entertainment is a good thing. But, I dislike web 2.0 or the detriment to intellectual property. I think the internet should be used more for trading and not for stealing.

Well we all know how much marxists like to steal and justify it so that's no surprise. It's also collectivism. I know it was lengthy, but did you read the article I posted about Collectivism online?

I think it's always best to simplify things down to individualism vs collectivism to get a perspective on things. Point me to it again. I might have but I want to be sure.

The belief that intellectual property isn't real property cuts across the political spectrum, it isn't limited to the left. For example, Stephan Kinsella makes the that IP isn't real property for the Mises Institute, his arguments can be seen here.

GYet, here in the west despite anime dvds being much cheaper. Fans refuse to pay. Bunch of brats. We got that problem here too in Australia But its not 100% people downloading eps, I think it would have to be 50/50 some still buy the dvds/Blu-rays this piracy stuff also happens with comics, Even when the people love the work from certain writers they still won't go to the nearest shop wherever it maybe or even go online and by them in the trades .

Well, there are also libertarian leftist: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-libertarianismI'm not really losing sleep over it though. Let people live as they choose.

Ok I skimmed through it but I didn't read all of it. There are definitely leftist libertarians, since libertarian ideals are for freedom on a social level and on an economic level. The leftist libertarians like things like smoking pot to be legal but they still like government control over economic activity. Libertarians tend to have liberal and conservative values actually. But at the end of the day it should not be taken without permission and those who have done so are stealing. I had a member here a few years ago try to justify by saying it was too expensive. Well in that case you save up or wait for the price to go down. Simple free market stuff. Otherwise you put companies out of business or make it so they have to jack prices up on legit buyers. Not only that you start having intrusive and pain in the ass security measures that hurt those who don't steal.
