One thing is for sure. Even if the U.S. does comeback, the dollar is finished. Well fiat currency always has this ending. It's why you want money backed by something. Of course politicians hate a sound money because it means they can't simply print money to buy votes.

If America ever goes back on a Gold standard then it will be good again.

If America ever goes back on a Gold standard then it will be good again. Well the government doesn't like a sound money. Even in Rome and other parts of history the government has tried to debase the currency at the expense of the people. We did it with the continental in US history as well. If you have the savings you could protect your money however, there's always a way. I'm going to move this to a different discussion though since it's off topic.

I think I may be becoming a misnanthrope. Too much time online plus a general dissatisfaction with your culture will do that.

I think online the advantage is you have more control over who you have access too. If you don't have smart people nearby in real life good luck getting consistent access otherwise.

Anonymity tends to bring out the worst in people since there reputation isn't at stake.

I think people in groups show the worst aspects in their behavior. That's been proven. This is why I like to hang out with people more one on one in real life. Never been a fan of large groups for that reason, they always default to the least common denominator.

I'm talking about group think, which exists in real life.

As for the topic. I've come to the realization that Vs debates suck because it's nothing but fanboy bait. People already have the winners in mind because "everyone is bias" [pathetic] and it's mostly about crushing rival universes to prove they're the strongest [see DBZ]. I'm pretty much done with them, big waste of time tbh.
Factor in the poseurs who read wikis and respect threads on the comic side. It's a clusterfuck. [Pardon my french.]

[Pardon my french.] You're free to say how you feel on here, lol. And I agree with you, it was the point I was making before. All discussions to me feel the same as a debate about things like religion, money, and politics. People have their beliefs and that's that in most cases. They feel strongly about something and they aren't there to change their own mind. It's all about Just hammering someone over their head over and over again in the hopes of accepting their belief and it never works. I've hard discussions over comics, games, religion, money, politics, business, it's all the same thing with a different flavor IMO.

I think i'm gonna quit debates all together. Counter productive and time consuming. I remember how much time I used to waste back on KMC. It became an addiction. I much rather just lay back now.

I try to aim for discussions over "debates". Those are a waste for obvious reasons. Then you get into the habit of waiting around to respond to the stupidity. I enjoy cutting my forum time away from other sites. One of the best decisions ever.

I'm cynical for even discussions. Things tend to get heated easily. Honestly, I'm tired of the net. I've never been sold into media convergence and I still prefer traditional sources for information over new media: Encyclopedias over wikipedias, Books and Journalist over Bloggers, etc. I think I'm gonna tater off until I quit.

When I say discussion I simply mean trading ideas with intelligent people. That's the key I think. If you're talking to ultra biased morons you won't get anywhere but there are people you can discuss things with. But yea on many forums especially large ones it can be an issue. The internet has a ton of advantages and computers do too, so it lets me meet many things I like about the old school and the new school in one.

I guess I'm just pessimistic. The ability for me to take my life with me on the go at any time is just too convenient. No carrying around lots of tools, discs, books, etc. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. It frees me and is very convenient. Just stay away from morons and you'll be fine.
