Asylum, City, or Origins? I haven't played through Origins yet, but I have to say Asylum held a special place for me. City was good as well but it felt like it was missing something in the gameplay compared to Asylum. Not sure why.
Thoughts?

Asylum had a nice claustrophobic feel to it. But, city and the later games opted for open world which I don't really agree to.

Asylum had a nice claustrophobic feel to it. But, city and the later games opted for open world which I don't really agree to. I generally like exploration, but I don't feel it was necessarily needed in this game. There was something about the combat in Arkham that I liked, it seemed like it was tighter and then they loosened up in City to make it easier to mash. I didn't care for that as much.

The combat in Asylum was simplier. They added to much unnecessary crap in the later games like Bat swarm and Quadruple counters.

You gotta read this:
Bat Swarm is the replacement for Throw in this game. I consider it to be a substantial upgrade. Throw was perhaps the most underwhelming move in the first game, and its difficulty to use was rarely worth the end reward. Bat Swarm, while no less difficult than Throw to perform, is massively more useful as a technique. When performed, Batman stomps the ground and a large circle of bats swarm around him, stunning all of the enemies. Think of this as an omni-directional Cape Stun. However it seems to have about twice the range of a standard Cape Stun. The main reason I am so taken with Bat Swarm is because of its application to Ground Takedown. In the first game, finding an opportunity to perform a Ground Takedown was the hardest part of getting a Perfect Freeflow, and often either had to be used as the variation starter (not easy), or used at the end of the battle when nearly every enemy was dead (which often meant having to hold out without losing your combo meter). Bat Swarm completely eliminates this problem. If using Critical Strikes to build up to Bat Swarm, you are guaranteed to have an enemy on the ground as the move becomes available. If you use the move immediately, it will the stun every enemy around Batman. You can then swiftly follow this up with the Ground Takedown, and go to the enemy who was knocked down by your Critical Strikes beforehand.
Modern gamers SMH.

They added more fluff, but the combat seemed easier or a bit more derpy because of the more lenient windows and the omni stun like you just mentioned lol. That's exactly the kind of stuff I'm talking about.

The counter system is dumbed down now as well. Before, you could counter one attack at a time and they had uncounterable enemies [Knives and Cattle Prod Wielders]. Now You can counter anything, even thrown objects. It's dumb.

Basically, post Arkham asylum countering is too strong. The new game [Arkham Knight] has this flash slowdown effect now. The combat is just, ugh.

Is the slowdown effect designed to make combat easier? I noticed countering was too mash friendly in City, might be why I can't bring myself to finish it. I'm sure it's still a solid game though.

They're definitely making some cash off of it. They cater it to the masses more and more. I guess Asylum will be the high point for me.

Knight looks "cool" but the combat looks. . . eh.

I preferred Asylum for the experience. The environment was really well done and I think the pre-Scarecrow moments were amazing. I'm talking about the parts where Batman sees things like his parents popping out of body bags, those moments. I also felt that Arkham City tried to do too much. Nothing really felt memorable to me when compared to Asylum.

A solid game, but no Asylum at all.

Yeah, Arksham City had an almost sandbox-sized world, but it felt so empty and dull. It didn't actually interest me in the same way that Asylum's environments did. If you're going to make such a huge world, there needs to be more things for me to do in it, otherwise we get a bunch of wasted space between missions (sort of like LoZ)
I get scared easily, and when some lunatics burst from the ceiling in the later part of the game, that really got me. They succeeded in making the Asylum feel dangerous and interesting to me.

I thought I was the only one that preferred Asylum. The enviornment and backtracking was just far more interesting to me in that game.
