I don't think there's nothing wrong with capturing a new audience, as long as you don't screw over the old audience. When I first saw the trailer I was thinking it looked neat. Nothing interested me after that except that they seemed to troll the SJW types. When Mika came in I put in my pre order. Most of the characters just seemed boring and her playstyle was the most dynamic and she had a fun appearance. Sony is funding the project so it isn't surprising. Here's hoping against hope! In other news they say they have crossplay to unify everything: www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/nov/13/capcom-cites-joystick-compatibility-and-frame-rate-issues-reasons-unifying-street-fighter-5s-platforms/Capcom is hoping that Street Fighter 5 is able to unite their part of the fighting game community. Yoshinori Ono, who's a corporate officer, and head of their consumer games development division 2, recently spoke about the company's change in approach with the new game.
"In previous titles we'd say 'we're having a tournament' and it's like 'which version? Is it PC, Xbox, PlayStation? Which joystick should I bring? Which frame rate should I practice in?' It was all over the place.
"We wanted to have it be one place to play Street Fighter," said Ono through a translator on GamesRadar.
These were just some of reasons why Capcom made the decision to have SF5 only available on the PS4 and PC, and Ono elaborated further.
He said that Sony provided them with community building support, in addition to technological support and advice.
Ono noted that Sony helped them achieve their goals, giving them an all in one place where the community and everyone else can play together.

I read that, but what does he know? He has no experience in anything else. I remember some other Capcom fanboy saying that SF4 is the hardest game to win in because the most people play it. Even harder than CvS2 or a game like Virtua Fighter to him.

These guys let the hype get in their heads hard. It's been cancerous for a while. It started with the posers who came in bandwagon riding 3s. SF's fanbase is as bad as Smash's and MK's is. MK's fanbase is fine when it comes to competitive stuff from what I've seen. They just have dumb casual fans, which is to be expected. SF and Smash are just full of pseudo elitists and nitwits. SF is pretty bad because people ride it since "it's SF". Then you have the dumb fans who will do anything Capcom says. Like someone else said. "You Capcom fanboys will eat shit in a glass if Capcom served it up and still say it's good." He's right. I've never agreed with the best "xxx" ever. We only know who's good by who plays. Nothing more, nothing less. There are tons of players who don't make it to these events who are excellent players. It's all just circle jerking.

When did the poseur 3s brigade come in. On 09? Nah people were wanking it way before then. I had a friend who barely played fighters at all talking about the "perfect balance" of the game. I can't stand bandwagon jumping.

Wow crazy thing to say considering the most dominate sf4 players are from different fighting games. I'd put Daigo Tokido and Kazunoko as the three best 2d fighting game players period.

Daigo did really good in that ggxrd exibition vs ogawa. I know he played ggxx for a bit buy i was still impressed with him taking ogawa to the last match.

You know what I think I read it out of context. It does make sense that there are more top players in sf4 then any other game so having a lot of good top players isn't surprising. I don't understand what he means by better though? The top sf4 players are better because most of them are seasoned fighting game players who have been playing fighting games for almost 2 decades. Infiltration is the only player I can think of who developed his skills from sf4. I personally think learning any fighting game will help you improve in any other fighter.

Snake Eyez's comment was fallacy and just Capcom wank for many reasons.
Their whole argument about SF4 players being the most skilled hinges on this idea that the "most" players play SF competitively therefore you have the highest chance of winning. In their mind it's like saying a 1/50 chance of winning is much greater than a 1/20,000 chance in winning.
The problem with that is:
1. 99.7% of those players are riffraff. It's just the truth, most won't be at a professional level and are therefore irrelevant. The same people place every year which bares out that fact. Yes there is an element of randomness on comparative skill level due to the way tournaments and pools work, but those 19,968 or so players weren't a threat to begin with.
2. The game is newer and isn't as difficult as other games. Many top players have honed their craft for over a decade on some very hard games. While there may be fewer players, the barrier of entry is much higher. It would be like having a basketball competition where you had 20,000 entrants that composed of anybody and even your grandmother and little sister could join. Compare that to a tournament with only 32 players that are all NBA caliber. There may be fewer players but 99.9% of the population would never get into qualification. You'd be much better off doing the larger tournament where you could at least get somewhere. Getting top 150 in that at least looks like you did something.
3. Many of the top SF4 players have had experience in other games. Just because they're competitive in SF doesn't mean they aren't competitive in anything else. This is Capcom wank at its finest. Being the best at checkers doesn't mean you'll be great at chess. Different games have different skillsets and SF4 doesn't compare to the likes of Guilty Gear, CvS2, classic Kof, and especially Virtua Fighter in difficulty. Some of these games take a year or more just to master basic MOVEMENT.
So no, he's definitely wrong. I'm sure the Capcom heads are wanking his comments though.

The harder games point is difenetly a good counter argument. If you have 2 million people playing tic tac toe and 100 grandmasters at chess. Does that mean tic tac toe is producing players of higher skill? SF4 is absolute cancer.

Lol the way SF is going mastering it will be like mastering Hungry Hungry Hippos, lol.
Not to mention that being a pro fighting game player doesn't pay very well so it's not like the NBA where the best players will pretty much join 95% of the time because the pay is so good you'd be a fool not to do it. Only a handful of players IN THE WORLD win major events, and it's only for a few grand at best. You can make that working a shitty job and the pay isn't enough to drive people around the world just to play unless they are sponsored. At least in the NBA all of the players make money whether they win or lose.
They are paying better this year, but not enough for everyone that the point wouldn't stand.

DLC characters and Skullomania? www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/nov/18/street-fighter-5s-first-dlc-characters-arent-finished-yet-ono-says-2020-might-be-year-skullomania-probably-not/Back at Paris Games Week, GameSpot sat down with Capcom's Director of Brand Marketing and eSports, Matt Dahlgren, and Street Fighter's Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono for a lengthy discussion about the company's upcoming title, Street Fighter 5.
The interview recaps information such as the way in which Fight Money will work, the new business model, and more. However, the Capcom representatives also share new information pertaining to the first set of DLC characters.
We know that Street Fighter 5 will receive six post-launch DLC characters before 2017 hits. Though fans everywhere are anxiously awaiting the first real glimpse of these warriors, they're actually not finished being developed yet.
"Street Fighter 5 in itself is a 16-character game," Dahlgren explained. "The characters that are going to be released as post-launch content are not finished yet. They’re actually going to be released once they’re finished.
"So, we’re still working out the cadence on how quickly that’s going to happen, but what we’re working towards internally is about one character every two months. So we’ve been able to map out that we’re going to have six within the first year and plan to continue to build after that."
As for a DLC character limit, Capcom doesn't want to get overeager. "I think we’re just going to watch how things progress," Dahlgren continued. "We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We do have very ambitious plans for Street Fighter 5 and a very long term strategy. We’d like to continue as long as we can, but we’ll have to see how the product does."
It wouldn't be a discussion about future characters if Street Fighter EX fighters weren't brought up. GameSpot asked if we'd ever see Skullomania make his return, and although the answer is still probably "no," Ono does tell fans to keep the hope alive.
"Aaaaaaahhhh. I get a lot of requests for Arika’s Street Fighter EX characters," Ono started. "There are issues around using characters from EX that would bore you to hear about. So I’ll just say that it’s not easy as it might be, getting characters from another game, unfortunately.
"The game has a long-term strategy, we’re going to be bringing content to it for years to come. I’d say never say never, who knows, 2019 or 2020 may be the year of Skullomania."
Recent tweets from Arika's vice president Ichiro Mihara outright stated that there are no plans for Street Fighter EX characters to appear in upcoming Street Fighter titles. "Hold on to the hope you have, but be ready for disappointment," Ono says.

This is so depressing! I love Street Fighter! I came to Street Fighter almost Ten Years ago and the characters hooked me. To see Capcom bend over for people that will never put a penny towards this game depresses me so much, it's almost heartbreaking. Resident Evil 6 is going to be remastered for PS4 and Xbox One and I made a joke that it will be censored, my comment got removed... can't trust the journalists and you can't trust the developers. I wish we could do something but it's impossible, I don't want to give up but it's a losing battle. Censorship will win. There are a few things you can do. Vote with your wallet. Don't buy games that cave to an audience that isnt going to buy the game anyway. Buy games from companies who care about it fans and customers. There are a few gaming journalist such as total biscuit and jim sterling who arent paid off by AAA companies and call them out on the bs so watch those guys and tell others about them.

It's surprising and not surprising in a way. Capcom has a history lately of screwing up big time with several of their franchises. Resident Evil, DMC, SFxT, and now this. They promised a much better experience and listening to the fans. They ended up going full casual and pandering with censorship.
It's bad if Japanese developers are doing this, especially over stuff like this that isn't even a big deal and had nothing to do with an M rating. No way Chun Li was an M rating.
It's a free market and I have other avenues to spend my time and money in, no need to put it towards games that do this or don't give me what I want. Also a good reason not to pre-order. Fighting games are usually the exception and you can get a refund but after this it just seems like failure after failure.

Yea Cammy was definitely an improvement, but they went downhill after all the whining. Really stupid. I like Jim Sterling, I certainly wouldn't call him a Social Justice Warrior like many others but he doesn't care about this, he'll only care if it becomes a "real" problem as in Developers are literally not allowed to do what they want, right now he'll probably say something like "It's not censorship, Capcom chose to do this because they think they'll sell more copies you monkey scrotum in a fish tank." When Dragon's Crown got shit on I bought the game immediately because I knew I needed to support those developers for standing up to the bullies. OBLIGATORY DRAGON'S CROWN GIF There was one game that caved to SJW's and I was really looking forward to it, I forgot what it is because I just let it leave my mind... Street Fighter is Street Fighter that ain't leaving my mind I wish Dragon's Crown was on PC. I would so get it. Censorship is a real problem now. Having a legal guardian censor it and having an approved entity telling you what's appropriate in your games to make any money off of them is really the same thing. These people are shortsighted.

Censorship is a real problem now. Having a legal guardian censor it and having an approved entity telling you what's appropriate in your games to make any money off of them is really the same thing. These people are shortsighted. Someone got really angry at me for calling it censorship and when I told him to look at the definition of censorship he was just like "Well it still isn't." What happened to Street Fighter V is almost word for word the definition of censorship how can you not call it censorship? Lol these marxists thrive off of lying and changing the meanings of words they know that without this they'd have no argument so they engage in cognitive dissonance much like religious people. It's really disgusting and I owned some idiot on Steam about this. Don't tell me the definition isn't that or that it's only when it's government forced because that would mean most cases of censorship are not censorship and that news organizations can hide or change information at will. They should just admit they're pro-censorship marxists and be honest about it. It's stupid but at least they're honest. From Merrian-Webster: 1 censor noun cen·sor \ˈsen(t)-sər\ : a person who examines books, movies, letters, etc., and removes things that are considered to be offensive, immoral, harmful to society, etc. From Septon to Smallclothes: The real history behind 10 Game of Thrones words » Full Definition of CENSOR
1 : a person who supervises conduct and morals: as a : an official who examines materials (as publications or films) for objectionable matter b : an official (as in time of war) who reads communications (as letters) and deletes material considered sensitive or harmfulWhether it's a Capcom official or the government or the ESRB, it's still censorship. That's the whole point when some approved body determines what's objectionable.

Final nail in the coffin. I'm officially done with SF5. "I think there's a big difference between Capcom, Street Fighter and me and Namco, Tekken and Mr. Harada," he stated.
Ono said that the companies are finding themselves in contrasting environments, and while they both run arcades in Japan, Bandai Namco is having success with more traditional video games — while Capcom is gravitating towards crane games.
"We're in different situations - both companies run arcades in Japan, but the Capcom ones are going towards crane catchers and one-off cabinets. There's not much space for the typical arcade cabinet. That's the situation," he said.
"The Namco arcades, they're still very much on the video game side, and Mr. Harada's giving it a good run with Tekken in the arcades, and more power to him for that, but we're not in a comparable situation," concluded Ono.www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/nov/22/ono-explains-why-theres-no-arcade-release-street-fighter-5/

I posted a comment at the bottom but I figured someone would catch the thread and make it. Yea I thought they said that earlier. They seem to want to streamline the base and make sure that everyone gets everything equally and not have one side ahead of the other. I didn't think Americans would mind since they don't really play on arcades much, do you have one nearby?
