Omega mode is looking to be quite "fun". Don't you agree?

Well, it looks like without Dimps, SF4's taken a severe drop in quality. Can't say I didn't see this coming though. I remember saying "Omega looks jankier than USF4" during USF4's buggy as hell launch. Looks about right.

Must be nice when all these other great games are around.

I kinda stop wish they'd stop phoning it in. They're turning into Nintendo, where the quality of the game doesn't sell the game, but rather they rely on the name / nostalgia to do that.
Since USF4, the SF4 series has seen a DRAMATIC drop in quality and polish IMO (The USF4 update introduced MANY bugs and oddities that haven't been seen before, breaking some things that were completely fine and had no reason being touched).
SF5 gets introduced and who do we see? Ryu and Chun Li. Who is our next teased character? Charlie. Enough of the old, where are the new? SF2 -> 3 gave us parries and a dramatically different roster. SF3 -> 4 gave us focus attacks and the largest roster yet (though only 9 / 44 characters are new [Oni's a transformation of Gouki and Decapre's a doll so only 7 truly 'original' new characters].
We're still clinging onto SF4's revenge system too. I don't see anything radically different. Sure, normals have different animations on chip / block, normals can chip, we have some power=up states with meter, some stage 'transitions', but I don't see a huge step away from 4 yet.

Yea, I think Capcom has been doing that for quite a while and I think they were doing it with 4 as well. A lot of gimmicks and old characters. Then again they might be scared to make a decent game mechanic wise because people might be turned off like it. They don't want to become Virtua Fighter where people talk about how perfect it is but nobody ever plays it. They cater to the least common denominator with gimmicks and gimmicks work at least for a while. I don't blame them for Ryu and Chun for obvious reasons seeing as they are promoting the game. I hope they do something neat with the element system.

The feeling I'm getting is "This is the next Street Fighter, get it because this is going to be the most popular fighter no matter what".
I'm not really sold yet because the game isn't really giving me any reason to be excited.

Capcom and Nintendo rely on nostalgia and sure sellers to make a profit. Sega too, nothing originally comes from their doors because the price of game development has made them very conservative.

We're never gonna get the huge steps that we got from SF to SF2 to SF3. I've been saying this since SF4 came, had a big argument with a member from KMC that used to post here. WIth that said, SF 5 seems to be a bigger step than 4 was. But, they gotta stop with the "Look who's coming back" nostalgia shit.

It's such a shame too, since Nintendo used to make excellent games back in the SNES era and did an excellent job transitioning to 3D in the N64 era. Capcom in the past has made truly great games like SF2, CVS2 and a wide variety of platformers like Ducktales and the new Strider. Nowadays, Nintendo games (Smash Bros excluded) just bore me. The Mario games have no soul like Super Mario World and I'd say haven't been interesting since Super Mario Sunshine. Either way, by relying on nostalgia so hard, Capcom and Nintendo are making games that aren't memorable, but only serve to remind us that better games have been made in the past and we should probably be playing those games instead.

They do have some amazing games like Virtua Fighter though. Were you arguing with Coolest thing alive? He hated any criticism of Capcom or SF. He criticized Capcom himself though lol.

I've heard that Japanese game devs prefer small changes than large revolutionary ones. I enjoyed new Super Mario bros. alot and Super MArio 3D world too. They're not big leaps forward rather small steps. I know how you feel, I've been making the same complaints since last gen. My catch phrase was: "Last Gen gameplay next gen graphics" and it was mostly true. But, like I said before it's how they roled. At one point I hated every game lol, but I eventually warmed up. Which is why I was able to play Skyward Sword since I thought it was shit on the onset. TBH, once the novelty faded for these franchises I grew up with: Street Fighter, Zelda, Mario, Resident Evil and so on. I lost the enthusiasm I had for them. I don't think it's gonna come back because these franchises reached their peak in terms of entertainment value a looong time ago. These days they just refine or try to refine game elements they created decades ago. Which is why at one point I was playing other games.\: Mortal Kombat for example. Street Fighter 4 was a real "safe" game, It was fueled 100% by nostalgia. It had no heart in it, the Soundtracks was absolute forgettable and so were the characters. I hated that game sooo much back in the days. Ask C and he'll tell ya. These days, I've calmed down alot and I play SF4, watch match vids and so forth. But, I'm nowhere near the same level of fandom I was back in high-school when I was playing Third Strike. Most of my favorite franchises are way pased their primes. Plus with how high development cost are people aren't willing to take risk. Because one bad game means you're in the red.

Well, let's see: Street Fighter Got way worst, I was never a big Mario fan until recently so no comment, Ninja Gaiden has become complete garbage, Same with DMC. Capcom in general is trash. Sonic is crap, but the handheld games were good and I liked: Colors, Generations and Lost World.
So yeah. I don't game as much anyway. I dunno, games take too much time and I honestly rather do more important things like read. The Video Game industry is too different. I miss things like Arcades and simpler games. Then again, I'm still into games. I dunno.

You're right about it all pretty much being the same crap for the most part. I just bought a about 15-20 games for like $65. You can't get deals like that on the console. Tons of great releases and indie games with creative developers. That's whats up. And yea it's not constructive to game all day. I do art and work on my business along with other things, but I'm delving back into it since I'm hearing of all of these great PC ports.

Plus with how high development cost are people aren't willing to take risk. Because one bad game means you're in the red. Don't get me wrong, Nintendo games are absolutely well-crafted games with tonnes of polish. It's just that franchises like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc have the POTENTIAL to make some good games, but they're too afraid to give us anything remotely different. I'm not asking for a Mario FPS or a Zelda MMORPG, but every Mario game is littered with the same music we've been hearing for years, an outdated life (1-up) system that has no purpose and had no purpose past the arcade days that they refuse to do away with, the same world themes, repetitive minibosses, etc. What about a Mario game that's not set in the Mushroom Kingdom? What about a city themed world? Or a technological themed world? Anything different, please? As an aside, I'm currently in SM3DW starting World 4. I've already seen so much retro-pandering that it's painful. The stamps and green stars couldn't be more obviously hidden, which is a shame since Super Mario World managed to incentivize exploration so much better with secret levels and Dragon Coins that could be hidden up in the clouds at any point to any pipe. Same thing with SF5. Ryu and Chun-Li are mainstays, I respect that, but why is the first reveal Charlie? Why do we have a dedicated revenge bar again? There's not enough being done here to make me think that this game is a decent step away from SF4. I'm not saying that it has to go as far as SF2 -> SF3, but some fresh new faces and moveset ideas could give this game the identity it needs.

We need to make more art threads, I like those threads alot. Yeah, it really isn't productive to game too much tbh. I could understand if it's competitive gaming which takes skill. But, then you get into these communities and they're so toxic. Gaming communities in general seems to attract very toxic people and are general garbage. It's half the reason I don't enjoy gaming anymore.

It's half the reason I don't enjoy gaming anymore. You have to hang around a more mature group who are just having fun while improving. People are dumb in large groups. Fighting games are the most time consuming as are competitive games because they have a huge time investment. Single player stuff I can come and leave at any time and I don't need online. They're also more immersive in their own way. I'm working on some drawing now. Good news is I have a much better hold on the pen and screen so I can draw better. The PC community is far better than the console community tool.

Sonic Generations was good because it went back to a lot of the elements that made the old Sonic games good. It's only natural it was solid. I think Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the beast though. Many of the Sonic games in between were "meh" at best.

It's a mario game but it's completely different from the other Mario games and is a remake of Donkey Kong Arcade. IMO that is the best Mario game in terms of originality it has everything you are describing I've been complaining about the cast thing for so long. I said the same thing, "How could your big reveal be a returning character that is supposed to be dead"? So, I won't be surprised if we get the same crap like we did with SF4.
