I have to ask it. What's with the obsession with sports in this country? Nothing wrong with liking entertainment, but it's like our country has a cultish fascination with it. Is it collectivist groupthink? Living vicariously through others? Or is it a way for people to escape their lives?
People can of course be obsessed with anything, it just seems to be "good" when it comes to sports.
What are your thoughts on this?

OMG I thought I was the only one who noticed this? I like sports alittle, by that I like playing them I followed boxing a little, but sports in the states are like a religion.

I don't mind going to or watching games but these people obsess over them like they have nothing better in their lives. It's like it's all they think about and breathe. I think it's cult thinking. Maybe it's the equivalent to gladiators in Rome where it serves as a distraction.

The gladiator analogy really hits the nail on the head. Just more bread and circus garbage TBH and it's not like these Athletes are admirable or heroic people. Many of them cheat, use drugs and engage in unsavory behavior off the field.

Nothing against making money, but these people (actors as well) make millions and millions for relatively little work at a young age. People who create businesses and everything you use and desire for day to day life and they're "the villains". Based on what exactly?

Like I said, sports and entertainment are the new religion in the west. I have nothing against people who like sports and entertainment or materialism in general. But, people get so caught up in it. Then again, people do the same for actual religion. So, then it's just how people are.

A bunch of lazy and fat betas worshipping people on screen. I guess it makes sense if you think of it that way. Too bad they'll never do nothing for themselves.

What I hate is how they put people who are into science and what not down and glorify athletes.

I think there's a strong nationalistic element to it too that nobody talks about. People want to back their side.
