www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-09-baldurs-gate-1-and-2-enhanced-edition-team-making-new-in-between-game"The team behind the Enhanced Edition re-releases of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 is making a completely new game in the series - not Baldur's Gate 3 but a game codenamed Adventure Y that will bridge the gap between BG1 and BG2.
It will be made using the Infinity Engine to look and feel like the old Baldur's Gate games, and three small images of Adventure Y (below) were shared on the BG:EE forum. Other details such as a release date are being held back for "late spring", developer Beamdog wrote on its blog.
What happened to Baldur's Gate 3, a potential project Beamdog talked excitedly about in the past?
"We'd be lying if we said we never think about doing a Baldur's Gate 3 game, so we won't say that. But we will say there's nothing in the works yet regarding BG3 or a 5th Edition [Dungeons & Dragons] game," the developer wrote. "That doesn't mean the opportunity will never arise, though, so we're preparing by starting a tabletop 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons game here in the office."
Beamdog also has plans for Adventure Z, a project it will talk about in the late summer after Adventure Y - the in-between Baldur's Gate game.
"Right now all we can say about [Adventure Z] is that it exists and it's a departure for us in terms of what we've done in the past. Also, the project might involve sharks... We're looking forward to giving you more details mid-year."
In addition to the Baldur's Gate games - available on PC, Mac, phones and tablets - Beamdog has also enhanced Icewind Dale.

When the first BG came out, that game basically changed PC RPGs for the better. I for one would love to see a new game.
After they stopped making BGs and ID, we had the NeverWinter Nights series. Followed by, what seemed to be an eternity, with the Dragon Age series.
The problem with the Dragon Age series is that each game seems to be moving away from the feel of a PC RPG.
Hopefully they make a modern BG more like Divinity Original Sin rather than Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Have you played the Enhanced Edition of it? I wasn't going to get it at first because of mods, but I got Carmageddon and Duke on Steam for cheap and they run really well, so I'll get them the next price drop and keep my old modded version. Dragon's Age is aimed at a different audience. It's solid but the feel is different. I just hope the execution on the new BG will be good, but from what I've seen of my favorite old games done again (Twisted Metal, Duke, etc.) The results are "meh". How did you like Divinity Original Sin? What made you like it in contrast to Dragon Age Inquisition?

I haven't gotten a chance to play the enhanced editions yet. I have been meaning to though.
I do like DA:I, as that is what I am currently playing. I appreciate that they incorporated some of the choices from the first 2 games into the history of this one.
My problem though is that it seems virtually unplayable with a keyboard. Maybe its just me though. It feels like a console game ported to the PC, rather than a PC RPG.
DOS is basically a modern version of BG.

Even Skyrim made it hard to change buttons without a mod which was silly. They need to stop doing that (as PC becomes more prevalent I'm sure they'll learn that we love customization and freedom). From what I've played of DOS is that it has some of the feel while having some different approaches. I know many people think the combat is improved but the pacing and RPG parts feel worse. I will say the pacing definitely starts out slower though. It does have some nice things about it I do like, and it does run well on modern systems with an updated look. What class did you play?

Knight and wizard for DOS.
Rogue in DAI.
If I were to play through again I might try mage in DAI.

Once they get their second specialization they can become a virtual unstoppable killing machine. If they are used correctly.
Not unlike monks in BG2 or rogues in NWN.

If you went back to BG1 with monk it was harder since the way the leveling up worked in BG2 favored you being at a higher level. I really need to catch up on my RPG's.

The monk in BG2 was basically how the fanboys describe Wolverine.
The rogue in NWN was basically how fanboys describe Spider-Man.
I would have liked to see a story involving Jon Irenicus.

Have you tried the mods for the classics? They add quite a bit more content and often make the game more playable. I had a ton of them for BG2 on my old setup. Was going to do trilogy as well.
