The announcement comes less than 24 hours after his stint at the Canada Cup Masters Series round-robin tournament, where he finished in 4th place, which isn't at all too shabby considering his competition. EG|PR Balrog placed better Snake Eyez, R/Kappa|Pepeday, Qanba|Xiao Hai and MD|Luffy.

His fans and followers are inevitably left perplexed by his decision.

Nevertheless, EG|PR Balrog says that he's made up his mind. He clarifies in a follow-up tweet that he is not retiring right away, but is instead planning on doing so this year -- which means that he's still going to be at EVO 2015, and will make a serious bid to qualify again for Capcom Cup this year.

In another follow-up tweet, he also explained why his Canada Cup Masters Series results has nothing to do with his decision.

He beat Daigo at Capcom Cup. He's good overall, but he probably realizes that these games are a *huge* time investment and interfere with life stuff with little payoff. You have to constantly practice to stay good and it takes a lot to be the very best and on top of that you have too much competition. That's why so many FGC players are always complaining they're broke. Too much time playing games and not enough time actually leveling up themselves. The more of my consoles and game stuff I sell the more I realize how much time people waste their lives on it.

On another note my SNES and Genesis sold more than my PS3 and PS2 respectively. Heh.

It takes alot of time to get into a game. This is why I rather get into an older fighting games. There's less big tournaments annually and you can play at your own pace. Once Street Fighter 4 dies I'll probably get into it lol.

Yea gaming is time consuming like that. Too much work. The more I play something I start finding flaws in it and I get annoyed with certain things. Single player is nice because I can come and go how I please. I'll be working on Skullgirls as it has great netcode.

Oh man.

I'm glad the man will now have time to experience things that fighting games may have been holding him back from. 
I've got to experience some very interesting games when I dropped fighting games that I would've ignored.

You dropped the fighting games or other games?

I love single player games because they have a stronger story element and things like that to go with the fact that they don't have to focus on multiplayer so much. They also have a pick up and drop factor with them. I can play at my own pace and start and stop when I want. I'm not constantly playing and trying to improve and stay relevant with my busy schedule. It can be really time draining.

Dropped other games for fighting games a while ago, and recently dropped fighting games for other games.

Single player games have a beginning and end, though. PVP Multiplayer games have no defined end, because competition will always improve, and you have to keep up. There are always different strategies to face / employ and no 2 matches will ever be the same, because players are always actively reading each other and reacting accordingly.

Yea I come and go from them too. But yea. Single player games are more story focused whereas multiplayer is more competition focused so you have to stay sharp. You can play fighting games very casually though otherwise it's time consuming.
