"Moments ago, one of the most recognized faces in competitive Street Fighter has just made a shocking announcement on Twitter -- he's planning to retire from his fighting games career this year.
So I've made a decision. It wasn't easy but I'll be retiring from fighting games this year. I sincerely appreciate the love that I got >

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after his stint at the Canada Cup Masters Series round-robin tournament, where he finished in 4th place, which isn't at all too shabby considering his competition. EG|PR Balrog placed better Snake Eyez, R/Kappa|Pepeday, Qanba|Xiao Hai and MD|Luffy.
His fans and followers are inevitably left perplexed by his decision.
Nevertheless, EG|PR Balrog says that he's made up his mind. He clarifies in a follow-up tweet that he is not retiring right away, but is instead planning on doing so this year -- which means that he's still going to be at EVO 2015, and will make a serious bid to qualify again for Capcom Cup this year.
In another follow-up tweet, he also explained why his Canada Cup Masters Series results has nothing to do with his decision.
@ultradavid I hope to be one day by your side in commentating. I know its random but I made a decision.

@ccg_Air I'm retiring when the year ends. You can still beat me before 2015 ends

@ultradavid I don't play for the money, I play to be the best. And like I said this is my last year so I'll compete until the year ends.
