Yet another showing of console superiority. www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-psn-attacked-every-day/1100-6425752/The Christmas Day DDoS attack against the PlayStation Network brought the service down for multiple days, causing headaches for gamers hoping to enjoy their newly unwrapped consoles. This attacked received a lot of attention due to its severity, but in fact, the PSN faces similar--but less devastating--attacks on a daily basis, according to PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida.
Speaking with Game Informer at the Game Developers Conference this week, Yoshida was asked what Sony can do to lessen network interruptions in the future.
"We are always always working against these attacks," he said. "Actually, an attack happens every day. Literally every day. Some days are bigger and some days smaller. Some days they devise new means, new ways--it's like cat and mouse. We have a partner company we work with, and we always update the new ways the attacker might deploy; so it is a constant battle."
For its part, Microsoft's top Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, recently said that the Christmas Day DDoS attack--which also affected Xbox Live--was a learning experience for the company. He also said that Microsoft is working together with Sony and Nintendo to discuss the ways in which they can go about stopping such attacks in the future.
