With an overall prize pool of $500,000 on the line, Capcom Pro Tour 2015 is the biggest it's ever been. And like we're witnessing now with the incredibly stacked USF4 player attendance for Final Round 18 -- only the first premier tournament in this year's Capcom Pro Tour -- it definitely feels like the golden age of competitive Street Fighter has arrived.
But is the golden age here to stay? Why, yes, Street Fighter 5 is on the horizon, after all.
And if that's not proof enough for you that all of this Street Fighter hype will be sticking around for a while, then maybe the three-year Capcom Pro Tour sponsorship deal that Mad Catz has just announced in a press release will -- as things currently stand, we're going to see all of this hype stick around for until the end of 2017, at the bare minimum.
That's how far into the future Capcom and Mad Catz have planned for, for right now. As a Premier Sponsor and the exclusive controller sponsor for the Capcom Pro Tour for the next three years, Mad Catz's brand and products will be featured prominently at all of the tour's events.
Along with the sponsorship agreement, Mad Catz has also announced today that they've once again partnered up with Capcom to make Street Fighter 5 FightPad, FightStick and Tournament Edition FightStick controllers, which will be released in time for the PS4 and PC title.
"Street Fighter is the most renowned fighting game franchise in gaming and we’re excited to be part of Street Fighter 5, the first title in the series to launch on PlayStation 4,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz, on the partnership.
“More passionate gamers choose our range of fighting game controllers over any other as they demand quality and precision to help provide a winning edge. We’re confident that our new range will continue to establish Mad Catz as category leaders and prove highly popular to established fighting game players and those new to the series.”
To drive the point home, Mad Catz's Mark 'Markman23' Julio has also published an infographic showing the controller choice of EVO champions and runner-ups in the past six years:

With regards to the upcoming Street Fighter 5 controllers, Markman said that the team at Mad Catz is "going back to the drawing board" and will be looking for feedback and ideas from fighting game fans to get the new controllers right.
"For all the pad warriors out there, I am especially excited at all the possibilities and planning we’ve been doing for the forthcoming FightPad PRO (tentative name) as that’s the product we’ve been putting the most time into as of late," Markman wrote in a blog post on MadCatz.com
"However, fear not arcade stick fans! Our new range of FightSticks we have up our sleeve are also going to be down-right fierce! We are working very closely with both Sony and Capcom to make a range of products that will fit every type of gamer out there. Please look forward to it."
