This guy thinks so.

Everyone gets mad at the new games like FFXV being more westernized, and they complain and whine and say it needs to stay true to its roots, but honestly why???
The classic turn based system in every JRPG has become stale. Sure some games like FFXIII have tried to reinvent it, but it still feels the same. Those type of things were created because animations were not possible. There also is less skill (when other games do their combat right) in pressing a button to execute said move rather than perform said move in real time.
A good comparison would be to compare JRPGS to Call of Duty. Both essentially have the same gameplay with each entry, while trying to tweak a thing or two. Once you have have played 2 or 3 Cods, you feel like you have played them all. The feeling is very much the same in JRPGS (gameplay wise).
Another factor, besides the turn based system, is the grinding the comes along with these games. You may be thinking "I don't have to grind at all, I'm just playing through "x" game!" Oh, but there you would be wrong (depending on the game). While many JRPGS you need to fight enemies to level (these often being the ones with more open worlds) the more linear based ones tend to have tons of the same enemies to fight. The time between actual plot development or new missions and beating enemies is absurd. And that's where we segway into the next topic.
The games are too long because of all this grinding. Grinding in these games, could also be refereed to just a way to lengthen the game. There are some RPGS where you go and fight the same three types of enemies through an hour long stage. Maybe fighting them two or three times would make sense, but its overkill and straight up lazy when you have to fight the same enemies/do the same thing 15+ times with in one mission. This is essentially equivalent to learning how to make your bed. Your mom might have you do it a couple of times after she showed you to make sure you know how to do it, but shes not going to have you do it 20 times. It's not a hard task, and figuring out how to defeat an enemy in turn based video games isn't hard. I don't need 37/40 hours killing enemies.
The reason all JRPGS are the same is because of the Japanese business style. They go with what works. Think about how nintendo has not released a successful new IP in years. Think about how they don't have 3rd party support. It's because they are traditionalist in what they do. Companies like square are finally starting to get that JRPGS just don't sell like they use to. They are starting to (and this is such a terrible term) "westernize" their games.
For the individuals, I can understand that every once in a while a JRPG feels fun but nearly every damn JRPG feels the same (with the exception of the souls series, which is one of the most unique systems in gaming).
The final thing I'm going to rant/discuss is the terms JRPG and Western RPGs. Basically any game that is turn based and is normally pretty lengthy and is (of course) made in Japan is a JRPG (with of course again the exception of dark souls which shouldn't be labeled as such). And then you have EVERY OTHER RPG which is labeled as western. Do you see the problem here?
On an ending note fans of the genre need to understand this: You liking only JRPGs in there natural style is basically the same thing as people who only buy sim racing games, the same shooter every year, 2/2.5d fighting game, Dark Souls games, mobas, and 8 bit platformers. You are not unique or different than other gamers who like only one specific genre. Stop acting so entitled just because at one point your genre rained supreme.
Edit: I realized while creating this article that the 2nd part of the topic title was overstated. They need to stop being praised so much more highly than other games is the main point of this topic.
