You're just the best in that particular tournament that year... That's not even always true because there are too many variables. If you had Evo on a weekly or monthly basis you'd have a different result frequently. Many player beat other players because of a playstyle but lose to a player that another beat. If A beats B and B beats C and then C beats A, is A the best? Not necessarily. You'd need to have a lengthy process of consistent ongoing matches to determine it. Honestly tournaments like Topanga are much better because they have qualifiers and longer sets with less randomness.

Why do these morons care about rankings so much? First tiers and now this.

Oh these guys... Going to a tournament is good and all, but that doesn't necessarily make any difference if you're not doing anything on a consistent basis, especially if it is just a local tournament. Once again, common sense is just out of the window at this point...

Once again, common sense is just out of the window at this point... I've always been about what a person can do over titles/trophies. If you're good, you're good, but everyone just isn't going across the state/country/world to play. They pay isn't that good.

It really isn't worth the pay which is why I find the U.S. tourney seen so bizarre in that it's so money oriented. In Asia it seems more about honor with very little financial incentive, because to be honest there really isn't much money to be made. I really detest the Fighting Game Community™.
Edit: Another thing, if they are so eager to find out who the best in the world is then they should demand more focus on online play. Because ultimately that is the most effective way to gather players from around the planet.

It makes me laugh how dumb these kids are who make this big deal out of winning a couple of grand all while simultaneously complaining that "esports is bad" because it puts money into it. Just dumb. Unless you're sponsored, forget it. I had a guy at Gamestop tell me he was making over a million gaming in Smash and I'm thinking "then why are you working at gamestop"? Lol. Communities just tend to be dumb. But you're right, if they want to have the best worldwide presence the best way to do it would be using the WORLD wide web. Many of them will complain that *that* would ruin the scene. Anyways his logic is flawed, a player can win Evo and lose a smaller tournament. If he's the best in the world why couldn't he win an easier tournament? Also his logic is garbage because if Momochi is the best at Evo and loses at the other tournament then he isn't the best player at that tournament? Dumb. More online communities would remove this nonsense.
