Those countries have a very dense population of skilled players who can play near each other along with great internet so they can constantly grow their skill. The US has people in a large spaced out area with varying net code. Unless you live in certain areas like SoCal you won't have access to good players without a tremendous inconvenience.

Yea the great internet and dense population helps immensely. That video i posted i felt it was interesting to see a beginners class being held at an arcade to help people get better and get the game more exposure.

The gaming culture is definitely serious there. It would be nice if our internet caught up here though. That'll be the day.

Some people complained that it was simplified but I thought it was a fun game and it was solid.
What are you playing now?

Alot of arcades have their own publications where they rank characters and give tutorial info. They have alot of fanmade media for fighters too from those magazines like Gamest mook pre-internet.

We have guides and stuff here, particularly more in the older days before the internet. No use for that stuff now though.

eI mean't for FGC. We didn't have good tourney level stuff in print back then. Just walkthroughs and sometimes combo tutorials. Nothing on this calibur. Especially, for a game as obscure is SF3.

No that knowledge was harder to find in print because you didn't have the densely populated group of people who lived near each other and shared it. The internet allowed us to do that better, which is ultimately my point.

Yeah, you're right about the population density. Another thing is centralized mass transit that revolve around major population centers making it easier for people to gather around for an event or a tourney.

Yea the bottom line is people just live much closer together, on top of that the internet is great because of the infrastructure.

Another aspect of the Asian players is that they take their hobbies quite a bit more seriously. In North America (outside of FGC and the video game groups/industries), it seems like fighting games (and video games in general) are STILL considered "childrens toys"... or rather... they are... somehow a seperate category from other forms of entertainment. Which is a load of shit in my opinion (I hate saying "in my opinion").

Over here we give sports that regard although that's slowly changing.

It's because hobbies and groups centered around a hobby are functional. That is to say people join them to do what is intended. Poseurs of course exsist everywhere. But, there is no inclusive movement in that culture. So, the doors aren't as wide open. Plus people don't infiltrate subcultures to skew it into a bunch of nonesense. Like if I like trains, when a group of train enthusiasts get together we discuss trains. We don't discuss how many women are involved in train discussions, that is to say discussions don't become political debates.

So you're saying it's much better until the masses come in? That's generally how it goes. Gaming was much better when it was smaller and more hobby oriented. When it becomes cool to be associated with gaming and what. People start coming in and making it more of a platform for self promotion. Look how big let's plays are for example. The communties tend to become crap afterwards. Because it's more about beong cool then the hobby.

Once things bet popular they became more dominated by the media and other morons want to get in on the action. On the plus side you have better technology and the ability to play online, so it isn't all bad. You just have to ignore the masses. They are a different target audience than old school or hardcore players. Other countries have their share of imbeciles and I'm sure Japan does. They see gaming like we see football or basketball and there are definitely dummies in those areas.

Other countries also have worse government interference and censorship laws as well and ban games more often. You also have region locking to deal with. The bottom line is more popular stuff attracts more dummies no matter the case.

I'm taking about how people behave in communities. They are are far more entitled and depending on the game can be less entitled. Fgc is pretty unique in a bad way though. I don't know other communities like shooters and star craft behave like that.

I don't know other communities like shooters and star craft behave like that. SF5 has an open beta so of course every fool will add their 2 cents. I've seen the same squabbling in other games like Twisted Metal. The developer got mad at the community. Single player games are different as balance isn't an issue. Japanese players complain about different stuff, like the female models being ugly in SF5 (like Cammy). This mostly happens in SF and Smash as those communities are awful. Don't see it in KoF, Skullgirls, etc. VF is the best community. Mainstream=dumb.

Personally, I dislike the sjw stuff, but I hate the gamepla complaining regarding the beta. I wish people played games more indepth before requesting change.
Japanese players want everything to be cutesy all the time which I hate. Though, I still prefer their scene over ours.
I mentioned fps multiplayer and star craft, because we discussed them before vs fgc.

I mentioned fps multiplayer and star craft, because we discussed them before vs fgc. It can't be helped since both sides have their morons. The complainers are just know nothing know it alls. FPS is aimed at casuals and morons, doesn't compare to pro Starcraft players. You'd be better making a comparison with those erotic games or something. Europe and Australia are westernized and aren't much different. None of this matters online because people discuss which games they like and don't go on "American sites" or sites based on region for the most part. It depends on the FPS community. CoD is going to be worse than others.
