Many people go around saying this popular phrase about the military being good and heroic, but is it true?
Why or why not?

It's just typical patriotism and nationalism. Military is just the sword of a nation and revolves around use of force.

So, what do you think about invading non-democratic countries?

So, what do you think about invading non-democratic countries? Waste of time and resources. We're broke and can't take care of ourselves.

I agree, it makes no sense to try to be the policeman of the world if you're broke. Maybe if took care of our finances. We can't afford nation building.

We have always done it. No sense stopping now. Well at one time we did have a more defensive country, but somewhere along the line we found it profitable to do it. Now we're broke so I'm not sure why we're defending other countries and not being paid to do it to boot.

When? The US has been at war over 90% of the time since we became a country. Our longest stretch of peace was immediately prior to WWII.

When? The US has been at war over 90% of the time since we became a country. Our longest stretch of peace was immediately prior to WWII. Well of course we had the war which made us a nation. Then we had conflict to acquire the land that the Native Americans had. Through some of that time we had wars over more defensive reasons or certain conflicts between other entities that led to war. Depending on the reason for the conflict I'm not completely against it. Many wars are about stealing property which I'm against too. The government sticking its nose into other country's affairs and sending agents over to influence/remove leaders and trying to police everything is not something I'm for. Especially when we're broke. One thing is certain, it seems like we lost these wars, because we have to give up freedoms every time. Things like the income tax, patriot act, draft, are all a part of these wars. The government finds ways to put bad laws in during desperation by drumming up "patriotism". We've also had "Wars" on things like poverty and drugs, and we've lost those too. I think we need to cut back on it as it's counter-productive.
