Why do people fear living alone?

Something that's almost universal in most cultures, is that living alone makes you a failure and is a fate worse than death.

Why is this? Do you agree with it? Why are people determined to live with someone at all costs?

Insecurity. To elaborate, there are people in this world who may not have the maturity nor the intellect to survive on their own. There is also this odd sheep-like mentality going on within some societies. It is not "mandatory" live with someone, especially when it is generally better in the long run to live by yourself while resorting to casual dating every now and then. Within many groups in society, a lot of people have this yearn to suddenly want to live with someone, even if that someone does not really have their best interests in mind. "Tradition." When people live in a Western society, it is usually a better idea to live on your own and make a name for yourself somehow first before considering any serious relationships. Then again, a lot of people are stupid when it comes to this kind thing.

This seems to be the case. These people who "have to have" someone there come across as weak and needy. I recall someone saying to me that you can't have fun doing things on your own, or tried to tel me that doing things on your own is a bad thing. People like this never try it or want to think for themselves. They just assume that being alone must mean you're sad and lonely. Most never do anything but move from their parents house into someone else's house. This desperation just makes it so people get into bad situations.

Most people aren't introspective and don't have the mind or the creativity to really occupy themselves or do anything with themselves so they just move in with someone to kill time and fill in the space. That or they pop out kids or have these animals and treat them like children. Many guys think they're going to get "easy sex" so they try to move a woman in and then justify it. Women of course are frightened of being alone and want their bills paid.

People could stand to learn to understand themselves first before getting into relationships. It seems like the opposite, that these are just crutches for the needy and dependent.
