A lot of weird trends began because of this whole Gamergate nonsense. The purpose of this thread is to provide insight on why Gamergate never made any real sense to be begin with. Meet Milo Yiannopoulos. (Attention all mods, if this is in the wrong section or if there is something else wrong, please make all necessary corrections).
There is... a lot more to this than just the weird "sexism/feminism" nonsense... this also has to do with the nature and politics behind game journalism and how individuals interpret (or possibly misinterpret) the ideas of subjects that relate to gaming in general. The basic claim is that the folks who started the whole Gamergate fiasco wanted "ethical reforms." What happens is that these really fanatic feminists/SJW (generally in the West) have a tendency of "cherry" picking subjects out of game... that aren't even relevant (or are completely harmless). And, because of Gamergate, a lot of (frankly, less intelligent) individuals are eating this nonsense up, like it is supposed to mean something (which it really doesn't). A lot of misinformation and ridiculous ideas are put on showcase as a result. It lead to a very weird trend of people (including gamers themselves) complaining about subjects relating to sexualization, violence, etc. You have people saying that video games are "satanic" EVEN WHILE KNOWING THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THAT ARGUMENT. Insult to injury, they also problem know that the idea of video games making people "violent", "sexist" or "satanic" is a completely foolish idea anyway, but they say things like this because it gets to attention from a certain majority that fit in well with the lowest common denominator in society. (There are male gamers whom are heterosexual to say the least... that actually despise the idea of having particularly sexy women in video game, calling it "sexism" and "misogynistic"... in fact, these people want to have a bunch of purposefully ugly women in video games... which isn't really a good idea in the long run, especially if there is no real intent or clear view behind "why" or "how" they are going to execute this sort of thing. They just want it there... just to be there). Another thing about this whole Gamergate nonsense is that it was started out of a fraudulent practice between a bunch of losers sleeping with each other in order to receive good reviews on their news articles (I never knew the exact details of this Gamergate subject until a few months ago, and quite frankly... a lot of intellectual individuals would find his exceedingly... stupid. A stupid attempt for drawing unnecessary attention to one self. Anita, I'm looking at you. She keeps wondering why she keeps getting laughed at). There are many other things wrong with this whole Gamergate fiasco but the video above nicely summarizes it...
(I suggest paying a bit more attention to the very last video. Armoured Skeptic is a cool guy. The point is, a lot of these recent (and... rather sudden) SJW/feminism stems from this whole Gamergate thing.

Media is essentially propaganda or a tool for propaganda. When gaming was small and mostly non western. Nobody cared, but as soon as the money started coming in. It became a propaganda tool just like all other forms of media. It's why I associate with the subculture less and less.

Jack hit the nail on the head. Nobody with a brain should be paying attention to most forms of journalism. It's really just tripe designed to tell people how to think and to brainwash them. It works too because people are so desperate they'll do anything to fit in with the latest trend no matter how stupid it is. you have a lot of straight men jumping on the bandwagon because it's what they expect makes them fit in or get laid. It never works and when the winds blow in the other direction people will be on to something else.
You have to be very careful where you get your information. I stay away from tv news and I'm picky online. Most people have an agenda and I want to watch what I put in my head.
Thankfully we're starting to get resistance to this nonsense the same way we did when the conservative types whined about games in the 90's (remember Mortal Kombat and the havoc that caused)?

I watch a lot of tv more than before but even then I don't buy alot of the spin. It's so obvious at this point anyway. Gamergate didn't ruin gaming as a subculture though. That happened when poseurs invaded it because they wanted to be cool. Most of these subcultures are bunk now anyway and there's nothing left to destroy.

I watch my favorite shows on stream or download but I don't surf tv at all. I tend to go with the net since I have complete control, the news is the worst though. I had to get others to stop watching that leftist spin. Gaming being catered to the LCD caused the quality to go down, just like other entertainment forms. The frauds are just annoying. I've been listening to oldie music and I haven't listened to modern music in years. Glad I don't too.

You're not missing much, media has become complete garbage. I'm planning to stop watching American media forever after Avengers infinity war and the Justice League movie. After that, I'm done.

I watch whatever I like, I don't use huge barriers like "all American media" or otherwise. I just pick what I like. I've started watching Johnny Bravo again after seeing it as a kid. Really brings me back.

The reason why I single out american media is for me the propoganda is too obvious. Ignore the propaganda and just enjoy the stuff. I find stuff without the crap in it. Which is one of the reasons I like the classics. I posted a video in the classics thread in the tv section. The stuff there wouldn't work in PC America. Don't let other morons ruin your enjoyment of stuff.

I still listen to classics. But, I'm less interested. I used to be a heavy anime guy with that being all I bothered with. I took a break because I was burnt out of life. Recently I've been getting back onto media, but now I wanna go back into anime again and more importantly into things like reading (I read a lot of non fiction. ) I don't really enjoy watching oldies too much.
I gonna focus more on math, history, science and anime in my free time.

Definitely good to get into science and stuff. Productive stuff is better. I've been into stocks and things like that. I've been doing some drawing and I was doing some light gaming. You seem to flip flop a lot so I lose track of your interests lol. You mean you listen to classic music? I have a hit list that includes several genres and you can really tell a difference. I balance out anime/manga and comics. Right now I'm just doing some Yu Yu Hakusho and I was reading various things. I've been watching TMNT and that's about it TV wise. I have a ton of shows stored up over the years and there's things I'm not even finished with like the Three Stooges for instance. I don't really worry about propaganda in my personal entertainment. If I like something I watch it, if I don't I avoid it. I'll give Supergirl a shot but I know modern TV has been vaginized so I know what to expect going in.

I articulate reall poorly, my bad. Since about 2009-2010 I've taken a break on anime, I even thought about quiting on it. During that time I was on break I began listening to and watching older and newer media as well: old school reggae, Xmen comics, 80s action flicks, cape films, and Arrow or The Flash. All of this was during my time off of anime and Japanese gaming which were my main form of entertainment. I think I might get back into it again hardcore. But, just not now.

The 90's series was a hidden gem that most didn't know about. I find it very interesting. In fact I just bought some Superhero and TMNT t-shirts. Hadn't bought any in almost a decade. The superhero stuff is much bigger now.

Worst case scenario is gaming becomes as Pc as comics. I don't think that Pc can affectall games since we still see alot of sexy characters. Not everyone follows Mk thank God. But, alot of this propoganda is intrinsic to western media and will definitely stay.

Yea you'll see it in western games with exceptions to games like Duke or GTA, but we still have plenty of alternatives. That's the beauty of a free market.
