Virtual reality will be a major focus at Capcom going forward, as the publisher has confirmed its Development Division 1 team, the studio behind the Resident Evil franchise, is invested in the technology.
"At present, we are focusing our energy on challenging the virtual reality (VR) game market," Capcom explained in its Integrated Report 2015 (via GamesIndustry). "In this terrifying world, you can twist and turn as you like, but there's no escaping the creatures closing in on you...until you remove your VR headset and return to reality, that is.
"We delivered this very experienced [sic] with our 'Kitchen' VR technical demo at E3 2015," the report continued. "The response was excellent. Currently, we are building a new game development engine able to support VR, which is the hottest market right now, while simultaneously developing titles for current game consoles. We have just set sail on our latest voyage."
Official Reveal Trailer 01:27 Earlier this year, Capcom announced that a fully-fledged remake of Resident Evil 2 is coming, and that R&D Division 1 is developing the title. Whether or not it will make use of VR, however, remains to be seen.

I've always said that the way to break ground with AAA gaming is to focus on new ways to play versus following the Hollywood approach western games have had success with in recent years. Glad to see the Japanese jumping on this like they did with motion control. Even if it is gimmicky, experimentation with gameplay is always interesting to see.

Innovation is always better than just braindead gameplay with no interaction. This is good.
