This teaser concerns me for a few reasons.

1) Is Superman evil? If he is this is a terrible start to the Justice League movies.

2) Most Likely - Is this a dream sequence? I don't want a surprise dream sequence to be spoiled before the movie comes out. (Batman also acts a little scared which is out of character and Superman being so angry and aggressive is also out of character.)

3) Is this an act? Batman acts scared, even if Batman was terrified he would hide it. So if this is an act and Batman and Superman are in on this why would you spoil this before the release?

Could be. Those guys look like they were bowing to him early on.

But it's not there when the mask is taken off? He put's it on to camouflage into the dark better otherwise his skin would light up as soon as light hits him. It's just a mistake that shouldn't be in a Batman film.

They could find a better effect but it's no different than the glowing eyes thing they do in the animated shows and in the comics so I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but I see what you mean.

In Kick-Ass (A hell of a lot lower budget film) when Big Daddy gets his mask taken off the black is still there. There's no excuse for this mistake especially when people constantly make fun of a previous Batman film for the same mistake.

It's not the type of mistake that will change my opinion on the film but it's still annoying.

I can see what you mean. Hopefully they catch it and fix it. Then again movies do lots of weird things.

I think it has that dark feel. I remember the Batman/Superman cartoon where Batman was dark and Superman was lighter and it balanced out. They could be trying that.

Honestly I don't think every superhero movie needs to be "edgy" because TDK trilogy was. I don't think it worked as well for Superman anyways. It doesn't need to be a comedy routine either though.

Superman doesn't need to be dark I just don't want him to be cheesy and Superman shouldn't be as dark as Batman I'm just worried that DC will miss the opportunity to be different by trying to make the Marvel Billion Dollars. The movies will probably still be really good I'd just be disappointed.

The action looks great in this that's one thing Zack Snyder is great at.

No the Superman that everyone seems to love is cheesy. I've never liked that Superman. I don't like a lot of Captain America stuff in the comics but I love him in the movies because they got the goody two-shoes boy scout aspect of Cap perfect, he's just the right amount of cheese and the right amount of serious. Man of Steel Superman probably could lighten up a little but I don't want them to go to the cheesy Superman.

I think it depends on the portrayal. It's not like the old 80's superhero movies so I think this movie is fine. The "dark and edgy" thing can get old too and seem just as cheesy if done wrong.

DmC: Devil May Cry is the perfect example of "dark and edgy" being cheesy.

We made a whole thread about characters who are "badass" and how it's done to death nowadays. As if the 90's weren't enough.

This movie at times feels dark than the Nolan films which I loved. If this is the route DC wants to go then I can't complain since it seems to be working for them. But, it looks like they are adding humor as well. But, the thing that worries me is the pace. Too many characters coming out of "nowhere" when one film before [Man of Steel] it seemed like there were no other superheroes.

People made a big deal about Superman killing. Because "he doesn't kill in the comics" even when he has. But, even then killing someone doesn't make you a killer and Superman made a snap decision which he clearly did not enjoy. People also said he had no regard for human life and destroyed metropolis, even though metropolis was already destroyed by Zodd's gravity cannon. People are so stupid, I swear.

The movie had a darker and more realistic tone. Superman is a killer if need be, not as a random spree murderer.

People aren't used to that.

Box office vs critics:

So here’s the deal. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice killed it this weekend at the box office. It also broke a ton of records and not all of them good. First the good. The film is the highest-grossing March release of all time unless the actual numbers released tomorrow differ from the estimates. It’s the highest ever Warner Bros. opening of all time. The bad is that it’s the worst reviewed film ever to open at over $150,000,000. That’s a very telling number and it also brings us to the crucial element regarding this film. What is the value of movie criticism when it comes to the majority of the world? This film was brutalized by critics and by the nerd culture but the masses spoke and spoke loudly. The big test is next weekend. If the film doesn’t decline by 65-70% the battle will have been won by DC and Zack Snyder despite all the social media that may suggest to the contrary. It’s a very complex discussion but a valuable one. Buzz can be a boon and a weapon but this film cut through all of the pitfalls and persevered and, to be frank, it’s a good thing. We need a cinematic landscape where Marvel and DC are both relevant. Competition forces everyone to get better or get out of the way. With that said, don’t be surprised if some dates and personnel change regarding future DC movies.

The rest of the box office was also rather robust. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 somehow crushed it with a number much closer to twenty million that most expected and Zootopia continued its furry dominance in the #2 spot. Chances are good that it will remain there for at least another week as no real contenders enter the market.

A few tidbits from the numbers:

Deadpool will pass $350,000,000 on Monday. That’s a Ryan Reynolds movie that has a good chance of landing in the top 25 highest grossing movies of all time list.
Divergent is done. The third film in the series is officially a dud.
Miracles From Heaven has quietly almost tripled its budget, and certainly will benefit from the Easter holiday with its faith-based message. Jennifer Garner v Ben Affleck: Dawn of Per Screen Averages.

I’ve added a little fun to the box office report. A little guessing game. Let’s see how close we can get to guessing the correct box office numbers for the movies opening next week.

Last Week:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
My Guess: $195,500,000
Actual: $170,100,000
Result: Normally being fifteen million dollars is off, but I’m going to say that I did a decent job.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2
My Guess: $15,500,000
Actual: $18,120,000
Result: That’s a lot of people. Man I was way off.

This week:

Everybody Wants Some

Richard Linklater delivers the spiritual sequel to his seminal Dazed and Confused and though it probably won’t be a big hit, the reviews have been fantastic and if his casting here is even half as prescient as it was for that film we may be looking at the next wave of Hollywood’s finest right here.

Don Cheadle’s passion project about legendary jazz musician Miles Davis has gotten a mixed reception thus far but there are few stories in music history more compelling. It’s unlikely audiences will flock to it, but the movie is certainly a nice counterbalance to all the punches, smashes, and eye-lasers filling the multiplex.

Honestly, the movie was a mess. Tried to cram way too much comic book story arcs into one movie vs actually trying to flesh out the ones they were supposed to deal with.
