I was going to do a thread about all of the games but I wanted to focus on these since they are the most hotly debated. Many like the simplicity, nostalgia, and music of the second game.
Others like the mechanics and fighting systems of the third game.
Where do you guys stand?

3Rd one was underrated for sure. I love the second one due to the production value.

3Rd one was underrated for sure. I love the second one due to the production value. When people say production value they just usually mean the music. It almost reminds me of Sonic 2 vs Sonic 3 though many will say Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the best one. I think if the music was removed people wouldn't say 2 is the best anymore. I tend to be a "mechanics" person and while I love good music it doesn't make a game on its own. The US version of BK3 had censorship (common back then) and upped damage. Even then the fighting was smoother, you had a special meter, combination specials, running, rolling, you could even do rear attacks and knockdown moves. The fighting system was pretty much unrivaled for a beat-em up outside of probably Revenge of Double Dragon and maaaaaaybe Cyborg Justice if you're into more unique gameplay. BK3 had multiple endings and a larger cast as well. They did more with the game like Sonic 3 did. The main complaints against it are "I hate the music" and "It's lame". Ah well, that's why I had the discussion here. Just reminds me of why I hate reading other sites. Also, did you ever play SoR remake?

Never played the remake and yeah, Yuzo Koshiro's music is what got me hooked. I'm open to playing them again for comoparison.
Sonic 2 has always been my favorite of the original. I feel it was the perfect sonic game, from everything like the levels to the bosses.
Never played the remake.

I listened to the music again and I like the first stage the most. I don't think it's leagues better than 3 like others make it seem, but it does kick ass. The remake combines the best elements of the games and puts them together. Give it a try. Here: www.soronline.net/sorr_downloads.htm
