This isn't meant to be a deep discussion. I wanted to put the advantages of one over the other in a tally like list and add it up. So I'll start.
Comics
1. Detailed art 2. Long standing icons 3. Less emphasis on relying on friendship
Anime/Manga
1.More options 2.Less politically correct 3. Definitions of "good" and "bad" aren't as conventional.
Right now I'm at 3 for comics and 3 for anime/manga.
Just make a quick list and we'll add them up as we go along. I'm just curious what people think.

Comics:
Different writers allow for a different interpretation of the same character.
Anime/Manga:
The same author allows for consistency.

Comics and Cartoons
Pros: -Has better pacing even with decompressed storytelling they don't have story arcs that go for 100 issues/chapters. -Rich color and lots of it, not just for color spreads. Higher production values, higher quality paper [Not just cheap phone book paper like manga] -More Iconic characters: Superman, Mickey Mouse, Batman and Donald duck. -Full animation and more variety in animation and design.
Cons: -It's more expensive -Stories revolve around a few set of characters -Not enough variety in Genre and characters [Superhumans and Anthropomorphic animals]
Manga and anime: -Rich in variety -Lots of stories that feature normal people -Not dependent on other mediums for success. Characters are generally popular within the medium that gives them birth -Not politically correct
Cons: -Manga is decompressed to an extreme degree and it takes a looong time for things to get moving compared to comics. -Cheap production techniques on average -Too many copycats as of late

Good list. Didn't know you were doing Cartoons like Mickey and Donald. That's fair game.
Western Cartoons: 1. Quick and usually sharp humor. 2. No set storyline allows for a large variety of ideas.
Anime: 1. Usually in a set storyline that allows for a lot of character development. 2. Have many different characters which encompasses more genres.

Yeah, Japanese have more interest in overarching storylines which tend to be longer. Americans mainly do standalone episodic stories with a few overarching story elements.
Japan Pro
Much better special effects, more dramatic.
America Pro
More slick production

Comics: 1. Usually don't have constant linear powerups ala DBZ.
Manga: 1. Far less likely to have jobbing and PIS between characters, especially on teams.

Personally, I rather jobbing since they tend to try to rationalize it even though it's BS. I can't stand asspull power ups or power ups in general for the action series.

I was trying to keep it list based instead of heavy discussion wise for something different but I just mean how characters in comics progress in power throughout the storyline. Particularly in shonen. In comics you have stuff like Flash being dumbed down which is also annoying and "Batman wins because he's Batman". Etc.
Comics: 1. Tend to be based on fighting and adventure.
Manga: 1. Goes into different genres. You have super light stuff, to fanservice based stuff, to mystery. Something for everyone.

Okay, my bad.
Comics:
Powers are more compartmentalized, more heterogeneous and works like rock paper scissors in fights.
Manga:
More homogeneous overall and operates on hierarchical based powerlevels.

I prefer western female in art too. There are exceptions, but what Japanese consider erotic is too cute for me.

I think it depends on if the female character is action or non action. Female characters from fanservice series aren't meant to be as aggressive.
In terms of powerlevels I think DBZ was an offender, but comics have their Superman type characters too.
Comics:
1. Different artstyles within the same comic gives you different styles.
Manga:
1. The same artstyle can feel consisten, even as the artist improves in the manga (Rosario + Vampire).

Japan has more variety in terms of females then western works. They range from cute to sexy. But, they have much more cute than sexy. But, their ratio is better than ours.
America:
Hollywood informs media alot and everything from comics to games feel hollywoodesque
Japan: More variety in inspiration.

Comics: 1. More based on current political trends.
Manga: 1. If you're a fan of adult content you can find more here, particularly sexual. Still has different censorship however.

Video Games again:
America:
Dark Gritty, darker pallets and on average more violent
Japan:
Brighter pallets, can be violent but not on average. Far less emphasis on realism

I used the think the Eastern stuff got into darker themes but there are a lot of lighter ones too.
Comics: 1. More muscular build particularly amongst the male characters.
Manga: 1. More slim and normal looking in most cases.

Gotcha.
Anime/Manga definitely has more content for females that are aimed at them if they're into that.

The cheaper price of manga and the larger variety of it gives more things to try you wouldn't in a comic. Female authors probably find it more their style than a comic where it's seens as boys territory.
